Posted May 16, 20159 yr Hello everyone , I'm Joss , french guy living in the US , 30. Engineer for a private jet manufacturer. First post here. I always as been interested in Lego, and now i would like to realize a project linked to my job. My goal is to create a lego model of a Dassault falcon (ex : Falcon 5X ). I was thinking about few different steps/projects : - A model of the fuselage interior only . Half cut, realistic style . - A model of the complete airplane, realistic style , around 1.5 meter ? - Maybe adding some functions to it , gears etc ... I looked on the internet and do not find those kind of creation . i started some ideas on LDD as attached . I saw all your creations and i must admit they are impressive. So my question is how should i proceed , who should i contact to help me , what do you think about this project ? Thanks for any support you could provide , Regards,

May 16, 20159 yr Author Hello , Thanks , I saw his nice job . Should i start first at a minifig scale ? and then try a bigger one where i can make more details ?
May 18, 20159 yr Most models that replicate a real machine (car, airplane, motorcycle) are scaled down versions of the real thing. The trick is to find the element which will limit your scale: wheels, track treads, windshields and so on come in a limited number of shapes and sizes. Try figuring out which element will limit the scale of your build and base your MOC around it. You can use scaler.sariel.pl to do this.
May 18, 20159 yr Dassault makes some amazing jets! If I ever buy a jet, a 7x or 8x would be it (or maybe a Pilatus PC-24). As far as your 5x goes, I think minifigure scale is too small. My vote is something large enough that will allow a full set of moving flight controls and retractable landing gear. Are you planning a brick built plane, or something built using Technic panels? Not sure if this will be helpful, but here is a thread about the Super Cub I built: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68476 It's great to see the possibility of another aircraft moc being built!
May 18, 20159 yr Author Thanks guys, As it is my first MOC , i must admit i didn't thought about all that stuff. I Made a market study , and definitely minifig scale is not possible. So i found a seat, who looks goods and started from that. We will see it i can create eveything the way i plan to .... For the style , i first start with a brick style, but technic panels looks really nice ( trucks etc ) . Maybe i will start with a static model first, and then will work on something with functionalities . Airplanes are beatiful machines and mechanically complex, i'm surprised there is not that much MOC dhc6twinotter Yes i saw your one , really nice , i saw also saw this guy : who made some great stuff as well . below is the cabin as it was yesterday. It looks better now but i don't have the file here. will post more tonight. Question : How do you organise your LDD construction ? modular aprroach ? a file for each element ? I start doing the folding door.. i will not be easy !
May 18, 20159 yr the round windows and jet inlets will be what sets the scale I would imagine. the inlets could be solved by using wheel hubs, but the windows will be more difficult. if you want the model to be realistic I would make solving both of these the top priority.
May 18, 20159 yr You could always use stickers to make the shape of the windows. I'm not sure if this would be "cheating" but it would solve a lot of problems.

May 21, 20159 yr Author still working on it but i did that cause i hade only few minutes free and found greate groups on flickr https://www.flickr.com/groups/scale_lego_airplanes_by_boeing_787_guy/ and https://www.flickr.com/groups/759792@N25/
July 29, 20159 yr Author Hello Guys, I have been working a bit on my MOC, and guess what ,? You were right ! i found the my scale limiting element : The doors. I cannot find anything that fit for lavatory doors... i'm a bit stuck do you have any tip that could help ? A 4*6 is too small and a 5*9 is ugly !
July 29, 20159 yr Author In parallel, i'm thinking about doing a model in lego technics as well. I like the studless style. No mechanisms for now. But i'm facing an issue : Making a circle for the fuselage frames , i tried many ways but i doesnt fit well. The last one with 5x beams looked nice but the diameter is not a stud multiple.... the white is way too big and not circular , i would like to do a diameter betwenn 22 and 25 studs, with horizontal and vertical beams at top/bottom/left/right. Any ideas ? Thanks
July 30, 20159 yr I would suggest building a custom door. Do some searches in the "Lego Historic Themes" subforum. There are lots of ideas to custom build scale details... Besides, you might get more response in some of the other subforums, as it seems to be a mostly non technic modell. For moving parts and advances mechanics, this is the place. This is also the place for "model team", models with very accurate scale looks and simple Technic functions... It you plan to give the plane some functions, this is probably the subforum that will give you the best help. But for scale building a model, I would search a bit in the other subforums. What size do you want for the doors? Custom building any size can be achieved if the door is given a bit of thickness, but keeping it slim it might be hard to stray form the stud standards. If you give some exact measurements I could try to moc up something in LDD for you... -ED-
July 30, 20159 yr You may be better off brickbuilding a door instead of trying to use a pre-moulded one. With brick-height hinges, you could absolutely do the normal, sliding-partition type door found on most airplane lavatories and cockpits, and those hinges aren't so stiff that they wouldn't open easily. There are modified plates that could be guide rails for the door, too.
