Posted May 19, 20159 yr Hello all, well I been playing around in LDD a bit. and decided I want to build a castle. but not wanting to get lost in interior details, I'll be focusing on the outside looks. but I'd like your opinion/input. As you can see I'm going for a brick build image with a staircase facade on this building. on the left (big door) the main hall, and on the right the living space for the castle lord. my question at this point, the grey tiles on the staircase facade, yes or no? I'm still experimenting with small dormers on the roof (this side) greetings Bart
May 20, 20159 yr Author this might give more of a castle feel to it: on the right the keep tower, which is still a bit crude, lacking some details. I think the rooftop windows on the house look good. you can see the covered walkway from house to keep, and the walkway from wall to wall around the keep. I started a six sided tower on the other side, which is also connected to the House via a covered walkway (blue roof) the chimeny might be to big?
May 20, 20159 yr Looks very impressive thus far! The dormers do look good and the covered walkway is a nice detail that we don't see often enough in LEGO castles. I think you could make the chimney a touch smaller if you wanted, but it looks pretty good as is too. The cellar entrance is lovely
May 20, 20159 yr Very nice I would love to see a real brick build version once. The chimney is indeed a bit large, but nonetheless I think it looks great
May 20, 20159 yr Author @Balbo, yes I would like to build in real bricks too, but I don't have that many bricks. the chimney is just reaching above the ridge of the roof of the house. I first decided to make it this size because (in my mind) it combines the chimney of the big fire place in the main hall (left building) and the kitchens under need the house at the moment it measures 4 by 6 studs. May 23, 20159 yr Author Spend a few more evenins on it: Still lacking some buildings and details. But it looks like a Castle now!
May 23, 20159 yr Author 11000 something at the moment according to the count in LDD. But I expect it to rise (a lot) my mind is full of details I want to add. But focusing on the big buildings so far. But I used 1x4 and 2x4 as default wall building bricks. So it could have been lower.
May 26, 20159 yr Author some one any inspiration for me on that last tower? (the one on the most forward corner on the last picture) its 12 sided, so more or less round. Bart
June 4, 20159 yr Its looking good, Kinda has a christmas feel to it.. with the greens blues and reds. But other then that nice towers and windows in the walls. If you had enough bricks to make this that would be awesome to see.
June 5, 20159 yr I didn't say anything early on because I just wanted to see where you went with this and it looks very nice. The blue roof is distracting amid all the red; I would either make it red or change something else to match it so it won't stand out - unless you want it to be a focal point. I do like the overall color scheme though. Good work.
June 5, 20159 yr Author Well changing colours isn't a very difficult thing in LDD, so the blue can change. the idea was that the red is brick tile roof, the blue slate and the green (corroded) copper. All red felt boring somehow. you can't see from this angle, but all buildings have doors and windows and details.
June 5, 20159 yr Author I made a Flickr album with a lot of screenshots of the individual parts. click me overview: *garden tower and the garden around it isn't nearly finished so not worth taking any pictures. Edited June 5, 20159 yr by Bart
