I'm using paper and pen. Seems quicker to me than excel, but then again I've made a couple of errors so had to redo it. having to recount the 4000 pieces I've currently got, but that's due to an error with store terms I missed rather than the paper method. I've added a wanted list to bricklink that i'll just use to find bits, and delete completed ones as I go.

Well I've got a horrible feeling the order I've been waiting on isn't going to arrive. The sellers feedback in the last month has complaints of orders not being received.

Ho hum. Will take some time out this week to sort out another order - avoiding those parts from the troublesome order.

Quick questions:-

What is the best way to keep on top of my inventory and what I still need to purchase?

My bricklink wanted list still seems to show the total parts list. Should I check off the stock thats arrived with my excel spreadsheet and then delete that item from by bricklink wanted list?

Is there an easier/quicker way?

When I do big projects I have a large spreadsheet that shows each part number, description, quantity required, quantity ordered, and quantity received as well as tracking cost of the parts. As I make orders and get invoiced I put them in the ordered column. When I receive them I update the received column and update my brickink wanted list. This is just how I do it so at all times I have a backup of what I still have to get with excel and brickink. Kept me organized on Anio's venator and I didn't order any parts I didn't need or have to order anything bc I missed it.

Hope this helps.

I printed out the parts inventory from BL, and keep track there, and also adjust/delete items from my wanted list as orders arrive.

The paper thing is easier for tracking what I have, but updating the wanted list makes it easier to find the stores that have what you want.

With the number of parts needed for this thing, taking shortcuts means that you'll (we'll) probably have to stop building and order something you (we) missed or miscounted along the way. :)

I like that a LOT. Simple, and doesn't require $100 parts or a large number of substitutions. How many of that long part are used? Two or four seem most likely... And I'm guessing 16 additional robot arms?

That's a great solution Gerechtigkeitsliga, excellent work! And, the modified Falcon is beautiful, the blue sections really add to it

Gerechtigkeitsliga, any chance we can get a straight-on, rear view of that engine mod? I clicked a ways through your flickr and didn't see one, unless I just didn't go far enough?

Nice mod. If you are interested for an engine grid mod......please look at my mod. Ok not the best pic. I used the long hose from the Friend ship and battle droids arms.

That is stunning work!

Well, heard back from the store with the missing order. Ordered on 27th and they haven't even sent it! Told it's shipping this Saturday. I've opened a disupte and have until 12th July to escalate so have given them this date as a deadline. No point going off the handle with them as would rather the parts. I'm fairly sure that paypal will just refund me when escalated - unless anyone has previous experience of Paypal not refunding in this circumstance?

Hi everybody

I've placed the last order for my 10179 build. Ended up flying way past my aim of 10p a piece and it's looking more like 15p. Still looking forward to getting it all ready to build.

It's all here :classic:

Anyone got any tips on how to sort all the parts out the make the build process easier? Chucking it all into a plastic box and rummaging through for each piece might not be the best idea.

Biscuit and sweet tins of the metal kind (plastic Celebrations tubs are useless).

Lots of them! I find them really useful and they come in all sorts of sizes, so i just separate my pieces to suit the biscuit tins i have. But starting off, probably by plates, bricks, colours, technic beams, then splitting the plates into sub sections, like 1 wide plates, 2 wide plates etc... It all depends on your available storage space.

Keep any 1x1/1x2/1x3's separate as well as other small parts as they can be a pain in the behind trying to find them amongst lots of other pieces.

Any chance of seeing that Spreadsheet?

Im considering starting on bricklinking it, with a few mods, before i even have the space to build it but atleast ill have the bricks when the time comes then.

Edit: Daphtty - Am I correct in thinking the engine mod is simply a line of alternate grey plates and clear bricks 'forced' o shape and doesn't use hinges? I assume this not only saves money but I better if I were to add lights in the future?

Sorry for the late reply. Your thinking is correct. The plates automatically spread when you connect the end pieces. This mod is significantly less expensive than the official UCS design. I just wish I would have taken the time to figure out the mod's design and incorporate its inventory before I spent a dime on parts.

Separate by color. Place 2-4 large bins. Then stack all exact bricks together (e.g. Connect all 2x4 light grey bricks together, all 1x6 plates in a 1 stud staggered approach). This all will help you find elements faster.

I also found using the building directions on my laptop and iPad easier than the actual printed version.

It's done! 7 months later! Taken lots of pics of the build process which I'll sort through later. Was going to get the correct dish but prices are just crazy. Ordered the 10x10 droid dish.
