April 5, 201014 yr Was I the only one who thought Prisoner Zero was creepy... I mean, as the woman and two girls who were actually one... The doctor was funny and Karen Gillian was HOT! Toa Tali
April 5, 201014 yr It was quite good, for a new series' pilot episode. It managed to contain good stuff amongst the 'of it's an alien', 'oh, I'm an alien', 'oh, I can travel in time'. I wonder how long it will be before our inevitable Dalek episode. The aliens were... interesting. Prisioner Zero's normal form looked quite good, but the Atraxi were just weird. I wished they just stuck with the Judoon as police officers. I felt that the 'we will destroy the Human residence part' was too predictable, and I hope and pray that the overall story arc is less obvious this time around. Judging by the fact that Zero blasted it out in it's final seconds makes it unlikely, but hopefully it will become more subtle. The lovely Karen Gilligan performed superbly, and in the words of new writer Steven Moffat, she was "clever, funny, witty and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it!". I found her to be the best companion yet and can't wait for more. So long as she keeps the Police uniform on, she's a great runner-up for me. Donna will always be my favourite, especially in the one with Agatha Christie.
April 5, 201014 yr I've seen photos of the new Doctor and... ...I just can't imagine anyone in the role except David Tennant. He was the reason I watched it in the first place. I'm sorry but I'll never buy it. Tennant just is The Doctor, IMO. Yeesh! Opinions like these irk me because they judge what they haven't seen compared with something they have. Why don't you just watch Matt Smith first, Tennant is NOT the only Doctor and never will be, have fun wit something different! Also, DoctorVision should be used to conclude the plot of every other episode up until the end of Matt Smith's tenure. Odd, because DoctorVision was the main thing I didn't like. Was I the only one who thought Prisoner Zero was creepy... I mean, as the woman and two girls who were actually one... Oh that bit was definitely creepy, as well as little Amelia and the Doctor. I wonder how long it will be before our inevitable Dalek episode. Despite not wanting a Dalek episode this season I'm actually looking forward to this one. I know the staff were forced to include a Dalek episode but this is a 65 minute one with Winston Churchill, WW2, Supermarine Spitfires and British Daleks! The aliens were... interesting. Prisioner Zero's normal form looked quite good, but the Atraxi were just weird. I wished they just stuck with the Judoon as police officers. I agree the Atraxi were weird, my problem was that they all looked the same (silly criticism I know, but I don't like all the alien races having identical creatures) and that the crystal "spaceships" they had didn't really work with the eye design. However, these weren't police officers I don't think, they just had prisoners that must have committed crimes against the Atraxi. I felt that the 'we will destroy the Human residence part' was too predictable, and I hope and pray that the overall story arc is less obvious this time around. Judging by the fact that Zero blasted it out in it's final seconds makes it unlikely, but hopefully it will become more subtle. Yeah, Bad wolf was a clever arc phrase in the first series, but the subsequent "Torchwood" "Saxon" "Bees are disappearing" "Medusa Cascade" references have been uninspired and generally poor writing. Hopefully beyond this the arc is more subtle and an actually REAL arc, sorry Davies but having a character in one episode talking about something going to happen doesn't really qualify. Batbrick Away!

I know the staff were forced to include a Dalek episode but this is a 65 minute one with Winston Churchill, WW2, Supermarine Spitfires and British Daleks! Hmm... sounds better, but at probably fifteen minitues in, the Daleks will betray the English. Hopefully old Winston will be a one-off companion! Racist! How dare you say they all look the same! I agree with you though, and that is why the cat people are my favourite aliens. It's annoying, they just don't give the audience credit of having any brains. Bad wolf was just graffiti and a word in passing. The only time they really brought it up was in the penultimate episodes.
April 5, 201014 yr Bad wolf was just graffiti and a word in passing. The only time they really brought it up was in the penultimate episodes. I loved the realization of that, too. After a couple of episodes I was like "Bad wolf... Haven't I seen this before?", and when the characters finally realized it as well, I was all giddy and went "I knew it!!!". Good times, indeed. The new tagline "silence will fall" (or something like that) was quite cheaply dropped at the last possible minute, and it was heavily underlined, so the audience couldn't miss the importance of it. I agree that writers should give the audience's intelligence more of a credit, but then again, it's also risky to rely too much on subtlety. We'll just have to see how the future episodes will deal with this...
April 5, 201014 yr You're just blinded by the viles of a sexy young woman! Not that I consider her a bad companion, but you've only seen one episode with her, isn't it a bit too soon to judge? Donna Noble is the best companion yet in my eyes, and Amy Pond will have to give me twice over if she ever wants to beat her! It's not my fault! I blame the hormones! But you are right, Sandy. We do need to see more from her. Much, much more... ... You see how that sentence works twofold? ~A.S.
April 5, 201014 yr P.S. I agree Awesome Star Much, Much More.... Edited April 5, 201014 yr by toatali
April 7, 201014 yr Just a random thought - what if a historical figure was a companion? Like the Doctor picking up Mark Twain for a four-episode jaunt. They could go to Camelot. It'd be fun.
April 7, 201014 yr I just caught this yesterday, and I enjoyed it. I usually only watch 3-4 episodes of any Doctor Who season, they start tiring me out pretty quickly. Amy Pond was really, really foxy. It doesn't come across so much in the photos, but her eyes are lovely on film. I suppose I'll be watching it just for her for a bit. The doctor was alright, but he didn't have so much charisma. The last two doctors had so much wit just in their eyes, with a glance, and this guy doesn't have that... yet.

Its the crack in Amy's bedroom Just a random thought - what if a historical figure was a companion? Like the Doctor picking up Mark Twain for a four-episode jaunt. They could go to Camelot. It'd be fun. Apparently Vincent Van Gogh travels forward in time to see his paintings .
April 8, 201014 yr Apparently Vincent Van Gogh travels forward in time to see his paintings . Yeah, I recognized him in the 'Coming up this season.'
April 11, 201014 yr So, what did everyone think of The Beast Below? It was alright. The title gave the concept away pretty quickly though, and the "forget" button was kind of silly. It's a watchable show, but not exceptional.
April 11, 201014 yr I watched it, not bad. I thought the star whale was, whilst original, was implusable (I know, I know, it's SCI-FI). Liz Ten was an interesting character, though her sudden willingness to follow The Doctor right away was strange (though I did like the call back to Queen Bess in 'The End of Time, Part 1', and Queen Victoria in 'Tooth and Claw'. I suppose those stories helped her to know the doctor was good. Did anyone else catch the Star Wars references? The gun-toting princess saying 'Help me Doctor, your my only hope' (or something to that effect), and falling into a trash compactor with a hungry creature inside? Also, I shuddered as I noticed how the story-arc will be about as subtle as a terrorist attack, with the crack appearing yet again at the end on the hull of the ship.
April 12, 201014 yr Did anyone notice how the kid who got trapped at the start of 'The Beast Below' was silent at the end of the episode, and then the crack appeared? I love that messing-with-your-mind stuff!
April 15, 201014 yr Redesign Spoiler! Link The Daleks have a new redesign and they are smoking.I like them actually, and I really loved the last 2005 redesign of them a LOT! It sounds like they're coming back for good and you know what, this is a whole fresh new slate for them. New design and new birth, and besides this is something new to see rather then the same old daleks. Even though I hate to say that and I love the last redesign of the daleks, a fresh design will be, well fresh. 8 minutes ago edit: sorry the picture is public now so you can now see it. April 16, 201014 yr Also, I shuddered as I noticed how the story-arc will be about as subtle as a terrorist attack, with the crack appearing yet again at the end on the hull of the ship. i don't know how its 'subtle as a terrorist attack.' Its better than RTD's ultimately meaningless arc words. Moffat has just gone a different direction. We know something is going to happen but we don't know what. I saw the crack on the side of the space ship but i didn't click that it was the same crack until afterwards. I did enjoy the beast below, especially near the end when he got really angry, it's what Eccleston's doctor would have done. I didn't like that they did hit you over the head with the "LAST OF YOUR KIND, BUT ALSO KIND LIKE THE SPACE WHALE GET IT????" thing Also for all Eurobrickers who have cosplayed as the 10th doctor... [i'm going the london expo as the 'Raggedy Doctor' (11 wearing 10s ruined costume). I've got most of the outfit planned out but I can't find a suitable tie. Where did you get yours from? April 16, 201014 yr Yeah, thats the new design I meant. This episode should so be called D-Day. ( Dalek- Day. ) Actually the Daleks will have a colourful redesign you'll see. Very much looking forward to this, looks to be the first entertaining Dalek episode in years. Also, D-Day would make no sense, this is taking place around the time of the Battle of Britain. Batbrick Away!

I'm sorry history boffin! I was just thinking a nice WWII pun would be great.
April 17, 201014 yr In the trailer, there is clearly a gold Dalek. Maybe the last of that kind? Not even close, considering the green Daleks are just painted. But I think you'll be entertained. Batbrick Away!
