-Tilius- Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Okay, you may have preferred them not to be there, but 'they aren't integral to the plot' isn't a good reasoning for this - because they were integral to the plot. You probably mean that you'd have preferred a different plot, with just the Doctor, Master and Time Lords, but in terms of this plot, the Vinvocci were exceedingly important. That what you mean? - Tilius Quote
The Crazy One Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Yes. Sorry, didn't realise I was being so unclear. I would have liked virtually the same plot, but withour the Vinvocci bits. It's just an excuse for another race in my opinion. Quote
-Tilius- Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Right, now I get it. Yeah, an extra race seems a bit pointless when an older race could have returned instead. Like some type of freelance Ood, 'cause that'd also give a chance for the whole Ood race progression accelerating mentioned at the start of Part One to be explained. - Tilius Quote

The Time Lords return was so short lived, I think that there shouldn't have been any other race. Deffinatley should have been a three parter. What was it, the TL's appeared for what, 10 mins and it was over an hour long episode! Slightly too rushed IMO. I really wanted to see the Nightmare Child, and all the Skaro cults etc. A third episode of them destroying Earth would have been great. I believe the Ood accelaration may become clear in, say, series 2 of Matt Smith's reign? Probabley a finale of a series. Also, The Master was sucked back into the Time War wasn't he? I think he survived, maybe he will become leader of the rogue TL's? Oh yeah, just a thought, that female Time Lord. Maybe Romana from the good old times? The Doctor deffinatley recognized her. Mysterious..... Edited January 2, 2010 by The crazy one Quote
-Tilius- Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 True, but when asked about it later he looks off towards Donna, implying that it was her. Which would suck. I'd have quite liked everything to have been fully explained within the two episodes, really. - Tilius Quote
God Iron Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I thought The End of Time was rubbish, except for the very end where he went to see everyone. That was brill. Anyone seen the new trailer yet? Daleks, Weeping Angels, Doctor with Gun, amazing! Quote
The Crazy One Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) Anyone seen the new trailer yet? Daleks, Weeping Angels, Doctor with Gun, amazing! Yay! Please, can I haz linky? Sounds intense! EDIT: Wow, that's looks amazing. This Doctor looks like such a laugh, especially with that punch. Did you see the white Dalek? Also, it seems DW is really taking hints from the past, for the better I think. Edited January 2, 2010 by The crazy one Quote
Ben Kenobi Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) It was a truly epic episode. I would have like more Time Lord action, but I felt it was good. I like the idea of the 4 knocks. Tragic, yet brilliant. Series 5... Bring it on! Ben Kenobi Edited January 2, 2010 by Ben Kenobi Quote
The Rancor Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I can't wait for Steven Moffat's new series - I can only make out the Dalek dome and weeping angels as familiar faces. Some of the other stuff was interesting though - some crazy human swordfighter and some new green scaly alien too. I'll have to watch the trailer again Quote
yellost Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I agree with the Time Lords being way too short, but I really did enjoy this episode nonetheles... no we'll have that akward period of adapting to Matt Smith (same way I din't quite Like Tennant right after Eccleston so I'm sure we'll just have to get used to him and it'll be way beyond awesome again ). There just on scene that puzzles me. In the end, he goes to a girl who sells books about the story of her mother and the Doctor but for the love of me, I just cannot replace her at all. Has anyone any Idea who she is (or more likely, who her mother is...)? Quote

Has anyone any Idea who she is (or more likely, who her mother is...)? She is the great grand Duaghter of the women ( can't remember the name ) in the episode where the Doctor becomes a human. Series 3, episode 8 and 9 I think. The one with Scarecrows. Quote
Forresto Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 (edited) The Ending for the End of Time (no pun intended ) was so sad. It was the build up and also the fact that I love David Tennent as The Doctor! That Adipose was drunk What I noticed in the series 5 trailer The Daleks are back but these ones don't look like the recent Daleks. Oh no! One was grey with a cloth like belt around it''s midsection. It looked like one of the redesign daleks from the last several series but it's kind of hard tell. Then there was also a white one that looked more like an older vintage dalek. One thing that also suprised me is that the Weeping angels are also back. They seemed to be in some sort of military compound and were chasing a group of soldiers who were backing away down a tunnel. The Tardis looks a little different on the outside but they unfotunantly they did'nt show the inside. Many tabloids in Enlgand however said that the interior is mostly likely going to radiclly change. Vampires in the middle ages, possibly in Croatia since there is filming for the show happening there. Strange green looking reptile people carrying guns. The eleventh doctor with a . . . . . gun? very odd. Edited January 3, 2010 by Forresto Quote

Has anyone any Idea who she is (or more likely, who her mother is...)? That's Verity Newman, and her great-grandmother was Miss Joan Redfern. Her and the human Doctor (He had to become human to hide from The Family of Blood.) fell in love. As you can see, they were played by the same actor. I thought she was his mum or something like that. Anyone seen the new trailer yet? Daleks, Weeping Angels, Doctor with Gun, amazing! I am NOT watching those damn Angels again. I wish they would just forget about them. They really scare me... Quote
Izzy Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I thought she was his mum or something like that. That is what I thought too! I just finished watching the second half and I am really looking forward to see Matt Smith play the part. I did so very much love David though. Quote
hewkii9 Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I also thought that the scene in the alien bar was like the Mos Eisley Cantina, and I at the drunken Adipose. There's also an allusion that Russell Tovey's joining the next season of Torchwood. I think that was simply Captain Jack being Captain Jack, and Russell T Davies being as 'remember this, guys?' as he can. Also, The Master was sucked back into the Time War wasn't he? I think he survived, maybe he will become leader of the rogue TL's? I think that the Master in the Time War is an incredibly easy way to bring him and the Time Lords back, if you think about it - Rassilon's diamond only let the Time Lords out of the war because it had been in the war, and the Master was out of the war and in the war, so he's their link. Shouldn't be hard to find. Doesn't reveal much, though. - Tilius Quote
Forresto Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Part of the new TARDIS interior ! I really like this new interior so far! It's very futuristic but also gives it more of a classic kind of look. The most recent TARDIS interior was good but I kind've like this one better so far and it also looks like it has a staircase. One thing I really hope is that they show more of the TARDIS's inside since apparently it's supossed to have a lot of rooms on the inside. Quote

Atm, I prefer the TARDIS we've had for the last five years, and I don't want a radical redesign just like that. Same thoughts on Matt Smith, but I 'spose when Eccleston went, I didn't like Tennant much until I really got used to him midway Series 2. Those Reptilians in the trailer may be seriously reworked Ice Warriors or Silurians. Seems unlikely, but I've heard on-set reports that they were Silurians If that is true, I'd like to hear why they don't have a third eye. RTD confirmed that the mysterious Woman in End of Time was the Doctor's mother in DW Confidential. That easily explains why the Doctor and her looked emotionally at each other. Quote

That easily explains why the Doctor and her looked emotionally at each other. He did? I don't remember that. may have to rewatch it. Whereabouts did he reveal that? New Sonic Screwdriver = Awesomeness. New TARDIS = Awesomesauce. New Doctor Who in general = Awesomesaucyness. Ben Kenobi Quote
Batbrick Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Well I thought it was a load of fanwank on behalf of writer Russel T Davies really, read more like a self congratulatory fan fiction that an actual finale. Where did the Master "taking over the world" plot (easily the most fun part of the episode) even go? Freaking nowhere, that's where! Like every single one of Davie's finales, everything is just hit by a big ole reset button. It wasn't even explained how Rassilon even knew that the aster would have that in store for them, because he didn't, so him just undoing everything the Master did doesn't make any sense. The whole thing didn't have a coherent plot (as said, eliminate the "I'm everyone" subplot and the ending doesn't change really). I guess after four finales of seeing the single worst plot devices in history being used with glee (the deus ex machina and reset button) there was no way I could enjoy the finale of another like them. Atleast those ones had the wonderful scale of millions of Daleks, The End of Time has a quick flash of Gallifrey heading toward Earth which isn't nearly as exciting frankly, than if we'd actually seen more Time Lords. I could go on, ragging on the ending that makes Return of the King seem short in comparison, the overindulgence and gaping plotholes, but I'll just leave with this; Why didn't Rassilon just shoot the Doctor? He stands there doing nothing for five minutes then gets foiled when he has a freakin' KILL YOU DEAD hand thing! Batbrick Away! Quote
Forresto Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Has anyone realized yet that Rasillion's glove is the other of the pair? Yes that's right, i'm talking also to us Torchwood fans. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Has anyone realized yet that Rasillion's glove is the other of the pair? Yes that's right, i'm talking also to us Torchwood fans. It can also be the hand of Omega! Quote
-Tilius- Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 It could be the other glove, but nothing's yet been said, so don't treat it as fact. What has been confirmed by RTD is that Claire Bloom's character was indeed the Doctor's mother. - Tilius Quote
