Mr Man Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 It's only hinted that Jack will become the FOB not for certain. He could just know about the face and be joking to the Doctor. Quote
simonjedi Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Jack as the Face Of Boe should be swept under the carpet and forgotten about. I like the way you think. Quote
simonjedi Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 It's finally aired over here and I enjoyed it. The plot is gripping and I'm interested in seeing it play out. I like the idea that people are still alive but still have the injuries, and how Bill Pullmans character becomes a celebrity. Bits i didn't like: The stupid random camera movements during the news scenes. It randomly zooms in and out and flickers. Also make an actual TV studio or something instead of putting people on greenscreen and putting in awkward backgrounds. The Jeep driving in a straight line while being chased on some welsh beach seemed a little gratituous and "Oh look at our increased budget.", like they came up with the idea and found a reason to write it into the plot later ( Ithought it was funny that they cut before the flaming, living people staggered screaming out of the downed copter to wipe the smirk of Jack's face.) Sandy Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I haven't seen it yet, so I can't respond to your (thankfully hidden ) views on the show, but I don't believe this is the first time they're been been a continuous story; what about the 'Children of Earth'? I prefer this method of the series being the series arch, much better to try and work out than the 'arcs' of DW. Children of Earth was a miniseries with only three episodes, this new season has ten episodes. There's a huge difference. Just watched the second episode. The plot didn't get anywhere much, but new subplots were introduced. It still doesn't feel like the old series at all with no references to the "Whoniverse" besides Jack himself and Torchwood. There's also a strange mix of comedic situations and stonefaced seriousness. The background story remains highly intriguing, I just hope they don't botch it up with some sort of "deus ex machina" in the end (like so often in Doctor Who, thanks to the wonders of time travel). -JD- Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I reckon the character portrayed by Bill Pullman is somehow behind this, whether knowingly or not. It was how Jack said 'it all gravitates around him' (or something like that) in the post-episode series trailer. I'd like to see new scary aliens, like the ones in Children of Earth at the end of the series as it's always good to see new faces. And I totally agree with Simonjedi's point. The Heli crash was badly done. Then again, if they retain the injuries, I doubt they'd be able to move. Which makes me wonder... if someone is literally turned to ashes, are they living? Quote
Praiter Yed Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Just been watching the trailer for the 2nd half of the current Dr. Who season. Looks good . Quote
Ceroknight Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Just been watching the trailer for the 2nd half of the current Dr. Who season. Looks good . Hitler's fat Also I agree, it looks very exciting Quote
simonjedi Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 (edited) I gave up on Torchwood after Episode 3. It wasn't even entertainingly bad, it was just awful. However... THE MUCH BETTER SHOW IS BACK! LET'S KILL HITLER will air at 7:10pm in the Queen's Own Time Zone, on BBC One. Edited August 26, 2011 by simonjedi Quote
Jargo Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I get the feeling there will be no more Torchwood. Russell T. has said he wants to move away from science Fiction and Starz have said they don't want to do Torchwood without RTD. Also with John Barrowman begging to be involved in the 50th anniversary series of DW it seems he's making a last ditch attempt to keep hold of Captain Jack. Miracle day is weak television despite some shocking moments. It lacks excitement, it lacks any science fiction and is sloppily put together. It's also too long to carry the story. It feels like those old DW stories they spread over six episodes with nothing happening but lots of radiophonic workshop music and creeping around. Best to let Torchwood bow out now really. Meanwhile Moffat has turned DW into a completely bonkers show with great story arcs and a sense of fun and dark humour. Creepiness and a good balance between something for the family and decent science fiction. I wasn't overly impressed with Matt Smith's first series as the Doctor but this series has really turned out well. Quote

Best to let Torchwood bow out now really. MD has dragged on. In my opinion they should have left it at the end of the second series, being as they had killed off half the cast and even blew up the hub (in children of earth). the story has got its weak points and I cant bring myself to care about the new characters (not like Ianto, Owen and Toshkio ) it seems RTD is just flogging a dead horse to try and bring it back but failing. I think and american re-make of the show would have also failed, much like the 1996 re-boot of DW over in the states with the fantastic crap-fest T.V movie. But atleast the haven't brought back Martha bloody Jones....... yet. Quote
Jargo Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I think Freema Ageyman cooked her goose when she signed to do Law and Order UK and ducked out of becoming a Torchwood regular like RTD had planned. And I doubt Moffat wants any of the old crowd for his vision of DW. Quote
Mr Man Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Torchwood: Hmm finally getting somewhere with the plot, but still 3 or 4 more episodes to go. Doctor Who: Mel.. Melody... River exactly what I guessed was going to happen. Quote
simonjedi Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 But atleast the haven't brought back Martha bloody Jones....... yet. I liked Martha, but she was really poorly written. She's smart and a Doctor so she should be a good character right? Nope she stands around pining after 10 while Tennant continues to Tennant all over the place mainly about ~=ROSE=~. Then she just leave, joins then quits UNIT and marries the only other black character in the show because RTD forgot all about them and had to tie up a loose end during 10's pre regeneration egopalooza tour'10 I enjoyed LKH. Rory is the best. Quote
Mr Man Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 'and marries the only other black character in the show because RTD forgot all about them and had to tie up a loose end' Hmm They where rather a lot of unfortunate implications there just to tie up loose ends and have the Smith 'n' Jones gag again. Rory is the best. I think thats whats wrong with the RTD era for me personally. Tennants first series was great because he was bouncey and laughable. but then Rose gets trapped in a parallel universe and he becomes moody, and the end of his time most of his episodes seemed the same to me. I have no idea why he tried to tie up loose ends, It's much more fun to speculate about what the characters did after their time with the doctor Also why did RTD have to make every female companion (minus Donna) fall in love with the doctor?? no-one in the classic series did. *rant over* I really enjoyed LKH, quite a few twists and turns and really fast paced. Also Hitlers still in the cupboard Quote
The Crazy One Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 So what did we all think? I thought it wasn't nearly as scary as it could or should have been, and I also felt it was a bit of a rip off various different episodes, but apart from that, it was alright. Quote

Ya I didn't much like the idea of Martha marrying Micky (or is it Ricky, I can't keep that straight since the parallel universe stuff), did they ever even meet before that on-screen? Also, Rory is awesome, though kinda scary when he goes insane from House messing with the TARDIS internal timestream. Quote
Jargo Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Night terrors was rubbish. Aside from being a rude and useless interuption in the overall series story arc it had one reference to the series right at the end just sort of tagged on. There was zero sense of jeopardy or scares. the dialogue was poor and lazy. the explanation of George just glossed over in a hurry and it just felt patronising as a whole. I really hope they don't let mark gatiss write any more episodes. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I was expecting it to be freaky and scary. Maybe it was the Malibu, but I didn't find anything scary. Also: Anyone else fed up of Wrong Amy? After just last series? Quote
Mr Man Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I presume the last episode of DW was set in the present day, so why hasn't the Doc noticed that nobody's dieing . Quote
brickmack Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 I presume the last episode of DW was set in the present day, so why hasn't the Doc noticed that nobody's dieing . Perhaps as a result of all the stuff with ending the universe and restarting it and all that, Torchwood and DW stuff no longer exist in the same universe? Or perhaps it's set a few weeks/months after present day, and Torchwood has managed to end the miracle. Or the Doctor is just thick. Just saw the new Miracle Day episodes, now I'm all sad again about Ianto. Saddest. Moment. Ever. (In TW) Quote
simonjedi Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) I was expecting it to be freaky and scary. Maybe it was the Malibu, but I didn't find anything scary. Because we're older and more mature have access to the internet. We've seen more messed up stuff just by browsing google. Episode was alright, it seemed like a weird mash up of like 4 different episodes (Fear Her except good) I sort of stopped caring after Amy transformed, because I knew it wasn't permanent or anything. Fun Fact: This was supposed to have aired instead of the pirate one, but they swapped it around. Edited September 4, 2011 by simonjedi Quote
Jargo Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 It did seem like it should have been in the first half of this series. Very different tone. I'll have to renumber my files so it appears before Curse of the black spot. Or just never watch it again. Cofbs was another weird episode. it too wouldn't really have worked as episode nine. although as an episode it was a lot more fun to watch. Quote
simonjedi Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 So the finale of Torchwood is finally over. (Thank Christ) I was getting major Portal vibes from the planet. I really enjoyed the episode, Great acting by all. Quote
