BrickG Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 How to stop an countdown: Pull off a sick flip! How to stop an alien ship powered by gold: Shoot an arrow that weighs a lot and is solid gold at it! How to find your missing sister: She's in a bush! Quote
Jared Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 That had to be the most thrilling 45 minutes! We finally get to who Missy is. I won't say in case anyone hasn't seen it yet. I can't wait to see next weeks episode. I know, right? "Dark Water" is definitely up there now in my top three along with "The Eleventh Hour" and "The Caves of Androzani" as my favourite episodes!! So excited for next week, and WOWSERS, what a reveal that was!! Doctor Who is now made for the masses like Transformers. What this means is a great loss of quality traded for appeal. Doctor Who officially sucks now :P. The stories are more ridiculous and stupider than ever. Lets shoot this solid gold arrow a few miles up! Save the world with gold power! Lets stop a countdown with a huge flip! I now know how to confuse countdown clocks! Oh dear God how are people not seeing how incredibly bad this is?! HOW!? They've Transformered the series! Doctor Who never made the most sense (or any :P) but now it's just sunk so much lower than I ever thought possible! You know what, I used to feel that way too, but I think at some point you begin to realize it's just a television show. Though I understand where you're coming from, it did use to be a masterful show of story-telling, character development and imaginative plots, I can definitely agree that it has cheapened somewhat to appeal to a wider demographic. How to stop an countdown: Pull off a sick flip! How to stop an alien ship powered by gold: Shoot an arrow that weighs a lot and is solid gold at it! How to find your missing sister: She's in a bush! That about sums it up, yep! Quote
Venkefedo Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 How to stop an countdown: Pull off a sick flip! How to stop an alien ship powered by gold: Shoot an arrow that weighs a lot and is solid gold at it! How to find your missing sister: She's in a bush! She wasn't in the bush all along... she just came home from wherever she'd been hiding (living on the streets maybe, and apparently within fairly-easy walking distance) for the last however-long-it-was, tho it was silly that she went back to her own house and hid in a bush outside, but didn't bat an eye when the bush turned into fireflies & vanished. So, yes, that part was silly, but it wasn't like the plants magically produced her from halfway around the world. Quote
BrickG Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Nope. The bush clearly magically produced her. Even if it didn't your alternative is equally as ridiculous which is why Doctor Who is so bad now. Quote
Mr Man Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Nope. The bush clearly magically produced her. Even if it didn't your alternative is equally as ridiculous which is why Doctor Who is so bad now. And now we are back to disagreeing again . All the magic bush does is make that episode a bad episode, it doesn't effect the rest of the show or this series at all. Did you watch the mummy episode, or the last one? I'm sure people who saw the Twin Dilemma thought the show was ruined forever, then a little bit later we got Attack of the Cybermen, The Mark of the Rani, The Two Doctors, and Revelation of the Daleks, guess what, great episodes. Oh and Doctor Who continued on to today after that episode. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 IMHO roughly 50% of Doctor Who since it returned in 2005 has been mediocre to say the least but much of the remaining 50% has been good to brilliant! The beauty and trouble with Doctor Who is that it can be anything, so an episode one person loves another might hate. Personally I feel the 45 minute framework doesn't quite work, lots of stories seem to have a really good set-up only to be ruined by seemingly rushed endings, magic bush & golden arrow being good examples (although, I thought the Robin Hood episode was hilarious (Doctor Who does Monty Python)). That said, as someone old enough to have started watching DW when Jon Pertwee was still around, the old format wasn't brilliant either - too much repetitive chase & capture rather than getting to the bones of the storytelling. Obviously it's 45 minutes so that it can be sold abroad and have adverts slotted in (is that what BrickG means by made for the masses?) but maybe an extra 10 minutes per episode would leave room for better resolutions (if the Sopranos & Game of Thrones can get away with 55 minutes why not DW?). Tariq j Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I agree. I feel Doctor Who should at least be an hour long in order to have a clear plot without any rushed scenes. My thoughts are now towards the series finale Death in Heaven. I'm looking forward to see what tricks and surprises Moffat pulls out if his bag. My two main questions are, Did the Doctor push the half face man? And how did the Master regenerate and escape Gallifrey. Quote
K-Nut Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I'm guessing that will be explained in the finale. The Master part that is. Did NOT expect that. Quote
Mr Man Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Did the Doctor push the half face man? I don't think this will be answered. Still it's perfectly in character for the Doctor to have pushed him. Quote
Zilcho Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 I don't think this will be answered. Still it's perfectly in character for the Doctor to have pushed him. I agree. As for the Master, was he on Gallifrey? I forgot what happened at the end of the episode where the Master brings Gallifrey into our solar system. Anyone care to remind me? Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) I agree. As for the Master, was he on Gallifrey? I forgot what happened at the end of the episode where the Master brings Gallifrey into our solar system. Anyone care to remind me? At the end the Master finds out that he was manipulated by Rassilon, being given the drumbeat in his head as a signal to pull back Gallifrey, and he turns on him, sending Gallifrey back into the Time War, which pulled him in along with the Time Lords. Tariq j Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 So...What did everyone think of the Season Finale! For me it's a 9.5/10. I would've liked to see how the Master escaped Gallifrey. Still, all might be revealed in a future episode. I liked the gag in the opening titles and the Brigadier cyberman scene. Quote
K-Nut Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I really liked the Brigadier scene, but the rest of it was kind of eh for me. Seemed very over dramatic for my tastes. Pretty good, but we've seen better finale's. I have no idea how to feel about the gag at the end though. Quote
Zilcho Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Tbh, I enjoyed most of it, but I didn't like how Danny's love managed to override the emotional inhibitor and how he still had free will. Also the mystical energy which brought back the boy danny killed was sort of silly too. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I thougt Danny couldn't be controlled at the start because he never deleted his emotions. After that IDK. Like the look of the Santa ep. Loved the end scene about Gallifrey, that was heartbreaking. Also I think that to explain the Half - Face man question they could've showed his dead body in the montage of ''Am I a good man?'' If placed correctly it would've been immediatly assumed '' Oh so he did push him!'' Quote
K-Nut Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Also I think that to explain the Half - Face man question they could've showed his dead body in the montage of ''Am I a good man?'' If placed correctly it would've been immediatly assumed '' Oh so he did push him!'' I always just assumed that he was pushed. Seemed to fit the New Doctor's character. I'm guessing that's confirmation. Tbh, I enjoyed most of it, but I didn't like how Danny's love managed to override the emotional inhibitor and how he still had free will. Also the mystical energy which brought back the boy danny killed was sort of silly too. Yeah, lots of unexplained plot devices in this episode that really only existed because the plot required it. Definitely my least favorite finale of the new seasons of Doctor Who. It was good enough, but a big let down from that lead-in in "Dark Water", which I thought was excellent. Quote
Tariq j Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Children in Need is on Friday, and I can't Wai to see what Doctor Who gives us. Quote
SandMirror38 Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 It's a preview of the christmas episode :) Quote
Tariq j Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Cool! From one of the preview pictures Santa and the Doctor don't seem to getting on well! Quote
Borador Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Cool! From one of the preview pictures Santa and the Doctor don't seem to getting on well! Santa Clause on Doctor Who? What? Okay, I'll see where this goes. Could be interesting, but... Please tell me this isn't going to be a repeat of his relationship with Robin Hood. I could have lived without that... Quote

commodore_legolas Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I really hope Santa's a Time Lord. Getting around the world in one night and is able to fit a ton of stuff in like 4 bags? Tardis technology. Has lived for 100s of years and looks like he's 70? Regeneration and he has like a beard hair or something that the Regen go's into, like the 10th Doctor and his hand. Quote
Tariq j Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 The new series 9 title has been released - The Magician's Apprentice. It sounds interesting. Apparently Missy has said to have been returning for the next series - good to see how that will turn out. I'm sure alot will be revealed about the future of Clara in Last Christmas. Only time will tell.. Quote
Savage Oppress Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 4 more days until the Doctor Who Christmas Special :) Quote
