I've hated the first two episodes of the season and haven't bothered watching the rest (mostly because of work) but I did watch "Sleep No More" and was PLEASANTLY surprised by just how good it was! Really! Very well-paced episode, I loved the inclusion of the "found footage" style and how it was weaved into the plot, and for the first time in forever (please don't start singing) the episode had a very satisfactory ending, in that it didn't force-feed you some silly ending, but made you wonder and imagine.... definitely Doctor Who at its best.

Face the Raven was BRILLIANT. Absolutely brilliant. So happy they brought Rigsy back, and although I have NO idea who Maisie Williams character is (if someone could fill me, pwetty pwease) she was fantastic. Just the way her attitude and demeanor change when clara reveals she has the chronolock... gosh, why it took so long to get this good is beyond me, but hey, I'm not complaining! While I do feel Clara's death was woefully drawn out, I'm so glad her death was just purely and simply something that happened, and not some "big cataclysmic event" or something. And Peter Capaldi as the Doctor.... wohoho, I SO cannot wait for next Saturday... just the delivery of that last line... "You'll find the universe a very small place when I'm angry with you..." :dsweet:

what I'm tying to say is... I am definitely one satisfied Doctor Who fan. How have you guys been enjoying the season?

Maisie Williams' character, Me as she calls herself is this girl from the Viking Age turned immortal and she has lived for centuries doing stuff.

I don't really like her, her character is great but I don't think Maisie fits her character. She's great as Arya in GOT but I wish they cast someone else for it.

I'm going to miss Clara, her exist was the only thing that I enjoyed about the episode, her acting was fantastic till the end.

Next week's is going to be awesome too hopefully, apparently Capaldi is the only actor

I thought Face the Raven was ok. There were strong emotional scenes from/between Clara and the Doctor, but all the other stuff was just...stupid really. Not interesting at all. Just background noise to fill episode space before Clara's death.

I'm a sad to see Clara go, but I personally don't think companions should hang around too long to begin with, so I think it's good that she left. I do like that she died too--because death is something that should happen to more companions but it doesn't--always with the red shirts but never with the companions. And companions often make foolish mistakes just as much as the background characters do. That being said, I did find her death unfortunately anticlimactic. It may have been because I was expecting it for months (what with the reports of her leaving and all), but also the manner of death was frankly rather bland. It should have been more shocking (not necessarily more violent, but...); and this would have helped if they didn't show how the first Raven victim died (instead just hearing him scream or something).

All that aside I thought the thing that brought the episode down was actually Me (or the Mayor, as she went by this episode). I love Maisie Williams, and she's amazing on Game of Thrones, but the writers won't let her commit to anything on Dr. Who. This is the third time we've seen her, and the second time where she acts as a proto-villain and then 'goes good' just at the end. Me should be more bitter about her situation, more cold, more angry at the Doctor. Instead, she sets up elaborate plans to mess with him and then chickens out at the end and gets teary-eyed guilty--every time. I wish they would just let Maisie commit to being full on evil. I really feel the Doctor needs to go up against more threatening villains--there's never the sense of actual danger, or that the villain even has a chance of winning.

On the plus side, across the board, I'm really warming up to Capaldi as the Doctor. He has really been impressing me lately, and I'm far more interested in him as the Doctor, than I was at his start.

Wow, Heaven Sent is an absolutely fantastic episode!

Did anyone else see that "twist" coming as soon as...

The Doctor hung his wet clothes?

Cannot wait until next week's season finale! :excited:

Wow, Heaven Sent is an absolutely fantastic episode!

First time since I've ever ended an episode just blankly staring at the tv screen with my mouth gaping open and my mind blown into a zillion trillion gajillion infinite dimensions without having any words to describe the unbelievable unbelievable-ness I've just witnessed. Seriously. I have no comment. You know you've done a good job when the viewer is left with a feeling even after the episode is over. I started out hating this season for being so bad, and wow.... these last three episodes have been unbelievable, probably the best Doctor Who ever made, and yes, waaaay better than the classics. Anyway, I could gush about it forever, but instead I suggest you check out the trailer for next week's episode.... but be warned... SPOILERS!

In other news, this week is probably the greatest week in DW history next to the 5oth anniversary week. The squealing and incomprehensible anticipation for next week's finale, the xmas special trailer airing and the xmas episode being just 3 WEEKS AFTER THE FINALE, AND AND AND THE LEGO IDEAS DOCTOR WHO SET COMES OUT ON TUESDAY!!! AND *SPOILERS* THE NEW ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THERE WILL POTENTIALLY BE A LEGO DOCTOR WHO SERIES OF SETS AND A CMF LINE!!!! IF THIS ISN'T HEAVEN SENT (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!?!) I DUNNO WHAT IS?!?!?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IM SO EXCITED WHY AM I YELLING?!??!?!?! KJFBDJSKGBUBVUD;NSJKNCLKVNCJZKVNKJZBJKFBJKBFJKBbjkdbkjvbfkdjbdjkbjfkbkjfd

Hell Bent was not very good, not much really happened.

Apart from the first major appearance of Gallifrey since Day of the Doctor, Clara gaining a TARDIS and companion, the Doctor forgetting who she is, a new Sonic Screwdriver, the return of the Time Lord Victorious...

Hell Bent was great. It may be the best episode I saw (started watching from season 7 if I remeber corectly). Heck, it made me very close to crying once or twice. It started slow but after Clara appeared pacing got better. It was good to finally learn why Missy made Clara and Doctor meet. Oh, and ending, that ending. It was perfect. New Screwdriver looks just great.

Overall 9,9/10

Hell Bent....wowowowowowowow.

I really liked this season, and boy the finale did not disappoint. Sure, there's been some duds this season (Before The Flood, The Girl Who Died, Sleep No More) but this season has been great. Capaldi is on a roll.

And now he's having an episode with River...yessssss.

Agreed. My only real complaint about the finale is that it felt like Michelle Gomez should have been there as Missy.

Yeah ok... I was wrong :P

Though I still thought the episode was a bit lacklustre, for these reasons:

1) Gallifrey is back. Just to recap, the doctor trapped Gallifrey in a pocket universe, then, in the Day of the Doctor, Gallifrey wanted the doctor to say his name, which would allow them to come back into our universe. Everyone wanted to prevent this from happening, so the order of the Silence was set up, who tried to kill the doctor by blowing up his tarsus (causing the cracks in the universe) and also by raising River Song to kill him. How did Gallifrey get back into the universe after all of this? I might've missed something, but I don't think I did.

2) the hybrid. Ok, so the hybrid is Clara + the Doctor. It never really amounted to anything. They didn't destroy Gallifrey, the Hybrid wasn't a threat.

3) Clara survives. She gets extracted, and it's thought that if she stays in the universe for long the universe will crack... But that never happens. Also I feel like it took some of the gravity and despair away from Face the Raven.

4) the memory wipe. So the doctor forgets Clara... But remembers everything he did with her. Why did one of their memories have to get wiped? I didn't quite understand.

IKR? Missy is probably the best thing to come out of Series 8, and she deserved to to be in the finale. She's my favorite. ;)

Well we certainly know there is something going on between her and the Daleks, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was the focus of the next series.
