Posted June 2, 20159 yr “King Tartan, welcome... I’d wish it was under different circumstances…” “Me too, Commander Agur…” While Tartan was saying this, his thoughts were wandering off, thinking of what his ancestors would have done in his situation. Though full of fighting spirit if necessary, they had been able to avoid wars in the past. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to prevent it this time. It was even harder to think of this because two weeks before everything escalated, he had visited his relatives in Kaliphlin and come across the statue of Wandrir. Wandrir was known for his outstanding diplomatic solutions. So he asked for guidance while being there. But what was left now was a bitter, crushing pain in his heart. Did he ask the wrong ancestor for guidance or was it just fate. Fate that showed a whole different path than hoped for. The intel was very clear. Even all the spying missions confirmed the same thing. The Avalonian Elves had no idea we were so close to them and even Valholl had no idea. They somehow had more important business in the North. But it was all clear now. They must have had spies left. While the ranks should have been cleared, around forty were executed after thorough investigations. Maybe a few innocent ones were killed as well, but it was all for the one goal that mattered: Keeping the Drow at bay. While the Elves were just doing the wait and see approach. What a despicable strategy… It was a strategy which Nicanor suggested as well though. He was convinced we were much safer in our own lands, with our ancient tunnels and mountain keeps. But no one had been able to see that this had been the better choice back then. Our forces were already placed at strategic places near the border. And of course we marched on into Avalonian territory, where most of our forces were stopped. Some of the commanders were persuaded by Valholl’s or Elven diplomats. But most of them were too stubborn to listen to reason. As was I. So the majority had to be stopped by force, trapped in the unknown lands of Avalonia. Unfortunately, not all were stopped in time. Like they wanted, they were able to track down the Drow. But with most of the armies not being there, they were outnumbered. So when it finally came down to a fight, it was obvious who would win in the end… The Elves said Nicanor fought like a dragon and the men followed his example. But, in the end they weren’t able to hold. Exhausted after a day of fighting, being the last dwarf standing, Nicanor also blew his last breath into this world. A whole lot more dwarves would have died if we hadn't been stopped that day. Still, the Elves could and should have stopped Nicanor that day as well. Unforgivable… Better for the realms, but unforgivable… “King Tartan, I can’t imagine your loss and I understand your silence but Vargr and Glorfindel have arrived…” “Vargr, Agur, Glorfindel, thank you for attending my son’s funeral.” Before Tartan began to speak again, a minute long silence followed. “Nicanor, I will miss you. You were always so excited about being the future leader of Amortug. Full of ideas to make the city even better. You also disapproved my decision to join the attack on the drow. Even so, you did join the attack. And look were it has lead to. Behind the walls of our citadel we would have been save and I would still be able to laugh and drink with you. I will make sure Amortug will never forget you. Rest in peace my son, rest in peace…” "Rest in peace my son..." “Glorfindel, tell Valholl that Amortug will be forever in service of the capital. We need to be united, especially now alarming messages are coming for the North. Go now, goodbye!” “Certainly Tartan, we keep in touch about coming events. Goodby!” _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks all you guys for your effort in this challenge. A, MassEditor for Cat. B, and myself for Cat. C? While the Dwarves' side winners were: NiceMarmot for Cat. A, Kayne for Cat. B, and Infernum for Cat. C? Edited June 2, 20159 yr by soccerkid6
June 2, 20159 yr Man, this challenge was so long ago and I really wish I had my newer Dwarves for the challenge! I really liked the challenge and the tag is great, especially since Dwarves as easily my favorite race.
June 2, 20159 yr Love the new tag! Am I right in concluding that the men's side won? Maybe that's a silly question.
