Posted June 6, 20159 yr Hey guys I have tried to fix my Emerald Night from Jamming and being very "Jerky" for awhile now but it just keeps getting worse. I am wondering if I just need to rebuild it or if I have built something wrong. Another problem that could cause this is the constant wearing of the gears as everytime I take it apart there is plastic dust and I am wondering after 6 years if I need to replace those gears. Has anyone else fixed this on there Emerald Night? Thanks, -RailCo
June 6, 20159 yr Have you tried searching? http://lmgtfy.com/?q=lego+emerald+night+piston+jam http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28523
June 6, 20159 yr Author I know for sure that it isn't my wheels being wrongly placed on the axles because they work fine when the piston rods are not attached anymore. Thanks, -RailCo UPDATE: I figured it out turns out a few years back I took out the Railbricks piston part out and put back the original and I had forgotten that, works like a charm and is faster now too! June 6, 20159 yr Read on. There are modifications to the cylinders to reduce the jamming/locking and other improvements to EN. At the end of that thread Zephyr links to Railbricks issue #7. Start at page 31.
June 6, 20159 yr Author Just mentioned that in an update in my last post to reduce post space thank you though for all your help! -RailCo Edited June 6, 20159 yr by Rail Co
June 7, 20159 yr Try WD-40 in the internal gearing and on the piston rods. My EN runs like a dream after this small tweak.
June 8, 20159 yr You must be very careful of introducing any lubricant to a product that relies on friction to hold it together... Not only that but WD-40 could be a very poor choice, Some oils are harmful to plastics and I am not sure what long term effects WD-40 might have. It stinks too. If you must use a little oil, your best bet is to get some oil from your local model railroad store. They will have plastic friendly oil designed for use on model trains which should not harm anything.
June 8, 20159 yr Author Personally I don't like using oils and lubricants on my Lego parts unless they are for old motors or parts that had or need oil to begin with.
