Junior Shark Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 The Sub Attack feels obligatory, like it's just there to provide Hyrda/Red Skull to be in the current line-up. Cap A is disappointing in design. The Avenjet is only good for the minifigures and even then, they aren't great. Thanos' smile is just enough on the goofy side that I'll wait for the next version of him (I'm betting Lego will get lots of mileage from that mold, like with Hulk). Yeah, just wait for the inevitable Infinity War movie version of him, most likely with gauntlet. Quote
benderisgreat Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Just like I thought before Avenjet set looks awful! I agreed with people saying it has that 90s Lego feel, and it just doesn't fit superhero theme . Just look at this years Quinjet, looks really sleek and modern( even though it lacks interior) . But Avenjet looks too studded, and outdated. Minifigs are nice especially Iron Man and Thanos. And does Cap finally get dark red shield , or is it the pictures that make it look this way? So if I end up buying this set, maybe on sale later in 2016, I won't even build the jet, just minifigs. Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Is the iron man armour piece in the sub attack new? Can't say I'm dazzled by the sets, but new iron men...so yey Quote
N_Cat Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I'm mixed on whether or not I'd like a cowl for Black Panther. The helmet is just so skin-tight, a big helmet piece would look off. Two heads, like Captain Marvel, would probably be best. The new Avengers Assemble sets are pretty underwhelming. I've seen a lot of comparison between the Avenjet and the Darkseid Invasion, but one key difference to me is that the Javelin was actually a nice looking model. As for the Avenjet, I feel like people will only be in it for the minifigures (of course I don't fault them for that). The Iron Skull sub looks better to me. Not a wonderful model, but still a cool vibe. It's sad that Captain America is exactly the same in both sets, though. Like everybody else, I think the Avenjet looks uninspiring. It does look like an earlier era of Lego design, mainly due to the old style angular cockpits, wedge design and multi-story build. I don't think a two-sided Black Panther face would work- he doesn't have hair to cover the alternate face, and adding a new mold to cover the back would be just as much work for TLG as a new helmet. Quote
Ultron Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I wish they would stop using that stupid cockpit piece. I can't think of an instance where it has ever looked good. Quote
rob-ot5000 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 No infinity gauntlet equals no threat at all. Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up. Also, not to get too comic booky but Thanos can hold his own even without the gauntlet. He definitely can, but he's only a galactic threat when he has the Gauntlet. Otherwise he's just an intelligent and strong titan. And not to toot my own horn, but Ultron is more of a threat than gauntlet-less Thanos. I guess this isn't the place for that debate, and I suppose I understand what you mean regarding his respective threat level based on whether he has the gauntlet or not, but still: Thanos is always a galactic threat. Even without the gauntlet. Completely agree. I didn't care too much for the Javelin, initially, and still don't, but compared to the Avenjet, it was a sleek, (mostly) well-constructed craft. The Avenjet, on the other hand, looks clunky. Very, very clunky. As with most everyone else, I also think the sub has a better model, but, as with both sets, the builds aren't enough of a draw to get me to buy them. This is indeed all about the figs. And the figs for the sub aren't even interesting, to me. Yeah, just wait for the inevitable Infinity War movie version of him, most likely with gauntlet. If they are withholding the gauntlet, as it seems, I would expect to not see it until Part Two releases. But that's sooooooo far off! Quote
Clone OPatra Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I don't think a two-sided Black Panther face would work- he doesn't have hair to cover the alternate face, and adding a new mold to cover the back would be just as much work for TLG as a new helmet. In my post anyway, I was saying I could imagine a Black Panther with literally two different head pieces, not two faces on the same head. Captain Marvel in the Avenjet has two heads - one to be her wearing here helmet, and one to be her when not wearing her helmet. Quote
Ultron Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I see no need for two heads for Black Panther. Just have a two-sided head and a molded cowl. The double sided head could feature a face similar to Nova's with "goggles" for the whites of his eyes and then the other side could just be T'challa's actual face. Throw in a hair piece to cover up the other side and you're good. Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Here's a better look at Gemini: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/lego/images/9/97/Spaceironman.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20151202033645 I really like it. Quote
YoshiBlockr Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I would suppose 1 head, with a batman like layout and his actual face print would be great. Top it off with Finn's Star Wars hair piece! Quote
mediumsnowman Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Tried to nab some Hulks at TRU today, they had an entire box behind the counter. Got as far as ringing them up when it displayed an error message and said they couldn't be sold until the 6th. And the manager wouldn't override it either. At least I got the last two TFA C3PO's. wesker Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Love that Captain Marvel comes with two alternate heads. I'd like to see it happen with more superheroes. Quote
mediumsnowman Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Out of curiosity, were those Polybags available for straight up sales without purchasing a certain amount? They told me they were part of a "Spend $30 on LEGO and get free polybag" starting on the 6th. If they have any left after the promotion they'll sell them individually. Quote
Dr Axels Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) I don't like how pink Thanos's face is. I'm getting the set, regardless, for just to have him and Cap. Marvel in my collection. However, it really makes me hopeful for an MCU version. I should also add that I actually enjoy this Avenjet than the one from the cartoon. This one is much sleeker. In the cartoon, I am always wondering how that thing is even able to maintain flight. Edited December 3, 2015 by Dr Axels Quote

Hopefully, LEGO decides to use a complete new head like every Jedi from the Clone Wars. That would be awesome, we would get one head piece with panther ears and an accurate form. Quote

Read some comments about how bad the Avenjet in the set looks and was thinking it still looks much better than the actual Avenjet from the show itself. Quote

Numbuh1Nerd Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 The Avenjet looks fairly cool imo. Not spectacular, but definitely not a day one destroy. The minifigs sell me on that one a lot though, because I love Captain Marvel. The Sub on the other hand is gross and the figures really aren't to die for. I might pick it up if it goes on sale or if I'm desperate for the spare parts. $35 isn't too bad for it. Quote
mediumsnowman Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Did they say how much they would be selling for? No, but I can imagine it'll be similar to previous polys, maybe $4-5. Quote

I can't think of an instance where it has ever looked good. The biggest issue with the Avenjet set is definitely that cockpit piece... what is this, the 1999 X-Wing?!? And why two?!? Lego has come out with literally dozens of better cockpits since 1999. Ah, rants. Gotta love 'em. However, that Avenjet set has two redeeming factors, and there's one on each wing: those printed dishes. Mmmmmmm Edited December 3, 2015 by Junior Shark Quote
N_Cat Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Lol. Beat me to it. Read some comments about how bad the Avenjet in the set looks and was thinking it still looks much better than the actual Avenjet from the show itself. You're right of course. It's an atrocious design, but that's not on Lego. They're faithfully reproducing one of the worst vehicle designs to grace the Avengers franchise. And like you and Dr. Axels said, it might even be a tiny improvement on that design. Doesn't change the fact that it's ugly as all get-out. Edit: Don't know if this photo is new, but it's an angle I hadn't seen before: It does show me at least one new positive: In keeping with the grand Lego Marvel tradition, it has a Fire Extinguisher! Though weirdly, it's yellow, which means that it's designed for kitchen grease fires. Edited December 3, 2015 by N_Cat Quote
Junior Shark Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Who are those extra pink studs for? EDIT: Why on Earth does Thanos have stud shooters ON HIS FEET? Thanos' face is forgivable, but those shooters?!? It makes all the weird flick fire missile placements seem logical. Also, printed 1x1 round tiles on Cap's backpack?
