rob-ot5000 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 BL is actually flodded with "6869´s Iron man" See, that's a damn shame, because they know what they're doing. If you wanna rip people off, take it to eBay. Quote
Scarilian Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) "A reissue ( re-release or re-edition) is the release of an something which has been released at least once before, sometimes with alterations or additions." I feel a lot of people here dont understand what a re-release/re-issue actually means, it can be a rerelease for example and have variations that make it different from the original. Which is the case here - making it a variant due to those differences which are aspects that are on every version of the 2016 Iron Man Mk 7. Yes it was designed so kids or people wanting a complete set could easily switch out the 2012 version for the 2016 version without much differences, however the idea was that they would make a new figure with the aspects of the originals but with alterations and additions. Classing it as a variant is what is being done by official sites including Lego; Enquired at Customer services in terms of replacement parts and they said it was a variant, asking me which version of the Mk7 (I wanted to see if it was possible to get a spare helmet as mine was loose) along with other sites that occasionally work with Lego such as Brickset or selling sites such as Bricklink. It isnt a debate or discussion, its just what is. I relayed it as a variant because it is a variant, its not identical. I thought people would know this already >.> I'm pretty sure there will be Battle Damaged Cap' and Iron Man Kind of hoping for a flipped version of the head that comes with the 'Silver Centurion' set - could use that for Iron Man then. The issue is a battle damaged Cap would be difficult to accomplish, though i would like an 'angry' Captain America face given its Civil War and we dont have one. Maybe have a battered/bruised suit, though the 'Lego Marvel Avengers' game actually has an 'angry Cap face that would be good to have in Lego form. Edited March 16, 2016 by Scarilian Quote
HawkLord Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) I see slight printing discrepancies all the time on minifigures that should be "the same". As a Star Wars Lego collector, I get multiples of the same minifigure with the same printing, but sometimes it'll be off by a slight amount. No where near enough to call it a confirmed variant or anything. Edit: And this is coming from someone who has the 2012 Quinjet. Edited March 16, 2016 by HawkLord Quote
KCMatze Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Maybe they decided to call it a variant because it was out of print at one time? I don't know... But honestly I don't really care that much as I have the original Quinjet set :-P Quote
TheLegoExperience Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) I think people have things with BL mixed up. The reason the new Iron Man figure is different to them is that it doens't have the trans-blue cylinders like the old one (Which is stupid in it itself). linnormlord Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I think people have things with BL mixed up. The reason the new Iron Man figure is different to them is that it doens't have the trans-blue cylinders like the old one (Which is stupid in it itself). You are correct, the Iron Man figure gets a new number (sh231) because it doesn't include the trans-blue cylinders and the old one did (sh036). The parts inventory for the "figure" is different. This is an extreme version of calling Scuba Captain America (sh214) a different figure from Space Captain American (sh228) because their parts inventories are different (flippers vs. jet pack) even though the head, torso, and legs are the same. There seems to be some system by which some parts are labelled accessories (e.g. Spider-Man's different webs don't make them different figures) and other parts are considered part of the figure. To me, the trans-blue cylinders should be considered accessories, and not part of the figure, but I don't make the rules. If the trans-blue cylinders weren't an issue, then the new figure would have the same base number as the old one (sh036a perhaps). Loki has the same base number (sh033) in both figures as the parts inventories are the same. The new figure (sh033a) is considered different somehow. A lot of focus has been placed on the printing and colors, which are subtly different. I think it is the cape material that makes these considered different. Brickset lists the old/new figures as Loki - Traditional Starched Fabric/Loki - Shiny Starched Fabric Cape. Something about the material or dye of the cape is different, so Lego says it is a different part. TL;DR The new figures are different because they have different parts, not because there are subtle differences in printing and color. (My opinion). Quote
linnormlord Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Parts inventories for figures get even funnier for figures like Captain Marvel, whose red masked head piece is not an official part of her minifigure. Just goes to show the parts inventories are not always intuitive. Similarly with Star-Lord who came with a mask head accessory and a spare hair piece, the hair is not part of the figure, but the trans-yellow cylinders are included in the figure. Wolverine's claws are not part of the figure, so accessories on the hands don't count, but those on the feet do (cylinders, flippers, etc). Quote

It's the same for Sabine and her helmet from Star Wars, as well. This whole Iron Man debacle's disappointing since it really is pretty much the same figure. Marking it as a variant just because its printing's a bit lighter or darker could apply to almost any minifigure that's mass produced. Ah, well, I guess it's not too bad since the set's only $13 anyway. Quote

My previous post points out that the "newness" of both figures actually isn't the printing at all, it's only because of the parts inventories that have changed: New Iron Man loses part 3062b New Loki swaps part 522c for part 522 As many have pointed out, printing variations are common batch-to-batch and year-to-year, and probably don't warrant new figure designations. Sir Gareth Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) Sadly, I doubt we're receiving that Doctor Strange minifigure Someone, please, prove me wrong... Edited March 17, 2016 by Sir Gareth Quote
Falconfan1414 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I really like the Zemo and strange minifigure. But something tells me we are getting neither of those figures Quote

These probably are not the first look at the figs. Four of those DLC sets are explicitly comic book based, not related to the upcoming MCU kits. The Doctor Strange one is based on the recent comic book relaunch, the Captain Marvel one is based on the recent comic book run by Kelly Sue Deconnick, the Masters of Evil one is based on the classic comics, and the Black Panther one is based on the "Who is The Black Panther?" relaunch by Reginal Hudlin. The only one that has anything to do with the movieverse is the Agents of SHIELD one. So the Zemo and Doctor Strange ones are based on their comic incarnations, not what they look like in the upcoming movies. Quote
Ultron Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Yeah we're definitely not getting that Zemo. He's not even going to look like that in the movie...also that doctor strange is based on the all new all different comics where I think he has an axe. Let's not jump to conclusions.. Quote
NXS7 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 We might get Zemo for Avengers Assemble sets next year, but the costume would be different. And Strange should look similar ish to that, but dark blue and a different facs print. Most likely will use that hair though Quote
HawkLord Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 These are perfect as comic adaptations. I'd pick them up in a second. Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Anyone think the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D pack may slightly increase our chances of getting an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D set? I'd like to hope it would as the show is pretty mainstream now. Quote
Royv Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 That Black Panther DLC version looks SO much better than the Civil War figure. Quote

I'd like to hope it would as the show is pretty mainstream now. I hope so! I have been waiting for an AOS set since the second season (first season was meh IMO)! It would be a great way to get so many great minifigs from the recent season and the past seasons! Quote
