Numbuh1Nerd Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 EDIT: Having re-looked through past years, I guess the trend isn't new. In 2015, Marvel got 10 sets, and DC got 7, and in 2014, Marvel got 9 sets, while DC got 5. I'm not sure about the whole trend, but I'm certain the number of sets is related to the fact that the MCU has been underway. Looking ahead, I don't see a year where DC has more merchandisable films than Marvel, so I'm guessing this trend will continue. I'd be willing to argue that it's not just the films but the animated presence. Marvel has at least 4 animated shows going on for Lego's target demographic, while DC only has one that doesn't lend itself to much merchandising. Marvel's also done an excellent job of spreading their appeal across a huge portion of characters, whereas DC still can only reliably place product on Batman's back, with the occasional Superman carrying a set. I think once the new Justice League cartoon airs we'll start to see something closer to balance, but spin-off shows that are more action-oriented would fare much better. Quote
agoodfella77 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 It's weird how much better Lego has treated Marvel over DC this year. Ignoring Micros and polybags completely for this discussion, they've given Marvel 10 sets and DC 8. Rectifying certain inequities. Quote
Duncan Young Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Rectifying certain inequities. How so? DC has had less sets for years Quote
Captain Britain Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Apologies this is half in the wrong topic, but did I read a while back there was a UCS type set for Marvel next year? Quote

Captain Britain Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 It was alluded to Cheers mate. Looking forward to next years lot already even though we have no idea what's coming haha. Added in my customs/older super hero figs into my frames yesterday so I'll be onto my 5th! Quote

Added in my customs/older super hero figs into my frames yesterday so I'll be onto my 5th! I hope we finally get(just to name a few) gwen, shocker and electro.also I really think that the last polybag for this year may be mads mikkelsons character, kaecilius with him not being in the set... Me too - I'm happy with my custom Spider-Gwen as she looks spot on but would obviously welcome a Lego official. Shocker, Electro, Mysterio and Rhino (proper big fig Rhino!) would be my next wants. Anyways I should be posting this in the wish list so I apologise! Yeah does anyone know when the polybag is due out? I'd hope for a Mads Mikkelson character after the only enemy we're getting is the portal demon. Quote
NXS7 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Yeah does anyone know when the polybag is due out? I'd hope for a Mads Mikkelson character after the only enemy we're getting is the portal demon. We have Baron Mordo. Even if he's not instantly a villain in the film, he could just end up like Sinestro and turn evil post credits. My 3 guesses are Kaecilius, Civil War Ant Man, or a Spider Man related character, as the polybag will tie in to the summer sets (maybe Amazingbricks was right to say Spidey 2099) Quote
agoodfella77 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 How so? DC has had less sets for years DC started a full year earlier though, I guess that was the point, making up for lost time... Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Not a full year earlier, just a few months. The first Marvel sets came out to tie in with The Avengers. And this time last year people were complaining about DC getting treated better because they got more D2C sets... Edited June 23, 2016 by PicnicBasketSam Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Doctor strange set is exclusive to target. Quote
Neomars Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Not sure why Sir Gareth didn't put this here but for those of you who don't (didn't) follow the SDCC SH Exclusive guessing game these are the figures. Panic may now ensue. The SDCC 2016 Exclusive Minifigures are The Atom (CW), and (Steve Rogers) Captain America: Congratulations to those that guessed correctly, and deciphered the clues! Quote
Sir Gareth Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 My apologies, I'm multitasking across social media. The Marvel Super Heroes SDCC 2016 Exclusive Minifigure is indeed (Steve Rogers) Captain America. Thanks, Neomars, for spreading the word! I can only do so much. Quote

That Steve Rogers Cap sounds interesting. Does anyone know if there'll be a set, too? Like last year was Throne of Ultron, so maybe we'll get a Civil War exclusive set? Quote
Khscarymovie4 Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 This is what he will look like. He looks cool but I don't care If I don't get him. Quote

Stan-Lee Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Thank god it was just captain america in another costume! I feel sorry for the dc fans on the other hand... Quote

agoodfella77 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Hydra Cap. Can't wait to see what it looks like. I guess it could have been worse... Still hurts for 99.99% of us. Quote
Ultron Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 That hydra cap uniform is hideous, so this is no loss to me. That shield might turn out cool though. It just sucks we still have to dread this time of year. Quote
GoldenNinja3000 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Looks like the figure could be interesting, but I won't be too broken up about it especially compared to other SDCC Marvel figures. Quote

Not only that, I'm sure that our fellow talented customizers will be releasing equally if not better alternatives. Quote
