Opproperaar Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 (edited) Yesss! First to comment. lol :-P You've got a fine-looking MOC there oo7! 8-o I especially like the cliff where those poor pirates met their end. Poor, poor pirates. How unlucky. May I also say that your cafe corner and the little street with horse and carriage are amazingly done, with eye for detail. *y* *y* *y* I always love details *sweet* I certainly hope to see more additions to the port in the future Edited August 28, 2007 by Hairy Ruben Quote
El Bucanero Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 (edited) That looks rather promising Mr oo7! The rock looks really good, the only thing it's missing is the "pirates ye be warned" sign X-D . Those dockings also look very decent, especially the part with the crane and the big ship. I really like the tilted brown plate. Let's start with the street part: My general expression was: A bit too modern. Especially the caf Edited August 28, 2007 by Mr Tiber Quote

Norro Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Very extensive! I like it a lot. I really appreciate MOCs that attempt to do more than just a single scene/building, there is so much more for the viewer and it integrating the various elements ensures a complex challenge for the builder... Thanks for sharing and God Bless, Nathan Quote

Scouty Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 That looks very good oo7. I can agree that it is a bit modernized. But the road behing the buildings and the port look great. The details are well done. Though, the port is a little cramped...from what I see. Can we see what that wall in the bottom left corner of the second-to-last picture in your first post, I'm wondering what that is. :capn: Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted August 28, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted August 28, 2007 This is one of the better ports/city's I have seen on this forum for some time now. It all looks very good, I love the harbor with all it's details. But the city/street behind the harbor is even more impressive. If I have to make one suggested for improving something, it would be that white tower of the fortress. It needs some more details, maybe some vegetation, a window, ... Quote

I'll have to think about altering the CC facade into something less architecturally contemporary. I'm not exactly sure how I would do so, I'm sorry to say. Can we see what that wall in the bottom left corner of the second-to-last picture in your first post, I'm wondering what that is. Ahh, it seems I forgot to include that in one of the pictures. It's just a simple brick wall. :) Looking good, i remember the movie! Thank you, Captain! It's good to know it serves as an accurate representation. *y* This is one of the better ports/city's I have seen on this forum for some time now.It all looks very good, I love the harbor with all it's details. You're right, that hasn't occurred to me before. Foliage is not a option since the tower extends over the cliff, but I could add some sort of cornice like instructed here. A simple brick wall, it looks good. Nice and detailed with different colors, and warring ships in the background! not a option since the tower extends over the cliff, but I could add some sort of cornice like instructed here. There are some plants that like to grow on cliffs, or plants with long vines. So, try adding some vegetation there. Quote
Sir Norman Ray Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 This a grand MOC :) Though personally, after searching through Bricklink, I am slightly annoyed at all the PoTC stuff, but this seems to be the best in a long while :) Will extras be added on, or is this the end? Quote

Nice and detailed with different colors, and warring ships in the background! Yeah, the ships are fairly battered. X-D and there's a shinny little toad! There are some plants that like to grow on cliffs, or plants with long vines. So, try adding some vegetation there. I could, if I had some good bricks to make some vines. I think a seaweed piece placed upside-down would not look too good and it would seem as if the fortress was in disrepair..... This a grand MOC :)Though personally, after searching through Bricklink, I am slightly annoyed at all the PoTC stuff, but this seems to be the best in a long while :) Will extras be added on, or is this the end? Yeah, that's why I like "POTC inspired". ;-) Sooner or later I might just rename it to "Colonial British Harbor".... I hope to gradually expand it further. Alter that white tower, perhaps buy another blue baseplate or two. Thank you! Edited August 28, 2007 by oo7 Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 29, 2007 Governor Posted August 29, 2007 That is very good usage of a backdrop Mr. Oo7 - I think it fits well. My little criticism would be this MOC lacks colour harmony, that is to say its got too much variation in colour making it look very "busy". Quote
Barbossa Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Nice job double o seven! A lot of PotC features, really nice! Brgds Barbossa Quote

I don't have photoshop, you see. :) My little criticism would be this MOC lacks colour harmony, that is to say its got too much variation in colour making it look very "busy". Well, however nice a solid, uniform color scheme may be, I have to say when building a large village it's just not appropriate. The village is not a terraced housing development and therefore is bound to have different colors and styles from building to building.... ;-) Nice job double o seven!A lot of PotC features, really nice! Definitely a good use of a backdrop *y* How did you use a back drop Added this MOC to Index of Land Based MOCs. Great MOC and great detail. I like how the Cafe was converted to a jail. I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean here. Added this MOC to Index of Land Based MOCs.Great MOC and great detail. Great, thanks a bunch! *y* Although perhaps you should keep in mind this is still only a WIP. I like how the Cafe was converted to a jail.Never would have thought of that. :-P The Cafe Corner isn't a jail, it's just a single facade to cover up the back of the Arkham Asylum. It's like a second building facing the cobblestone street, just not as wide. ;-) Edited August 29, 2007 by oo7 Quote

What a goof i am! :-|| I mean, how did you (not I) use that back drop X-D Oh my! 8-o It already looks like a complete, modularized MOC Hmm... Let us know when it's done and i'll update the pic. oo7 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 What a goof i am! :-|| I mean, how did you (not I) use that back drop X-D Well that is what you wrote originally, but it seems the lack of punctuation is what confused me, it's like it's only part of sentence. Do you mean to ask "Is the backdrop actually a real, tangible item (as opposed to a picture file)?", or "What item is used for the backdrop?", or "Where did you obtain the item used for that backdrop?" Oh my! 8-o It already looks like a complete, modularized MOC Hmm... Let us know when it's done and i'll update the pic. Surely, I'll definitely update this thread as progress is made. :) A suggestion about your flickr albums.Would you be able to make separate folders for each of your creations in the future? Unfortunately not, since non-members can only have three folders at one time. But do not worry, in time I will upload all the pictures to Brickshelf. Quote
Shadows Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 What a nice port! While I realise it was intended as more of a PotC setting, it would be absolutely perfect for some kind of thread based adventure story. I do agree that the buildings need to be set a bit further back, perhaps with some kind of sea wall protection between them and the actual water. Great job rigging that ship. I know it isn't easy working with that particular hull, but good rigging pulls the eye up and away from it, giving it a very nice look. I look forward to more of this great project! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Very well done! It is movie authentic, yet custom. Amazing! Quote

Thank you very much, I haven't realize the rigging has that effect on one's eyes, I just like to have a lot of it for optimal realism. Thanks for pointing this out. Also, I think I like buildings on a boardwalk, it provides it a really nice atmosphere. Very well done! It is movie authentic, yet custom. Amazing! Amazing? :-$ Cool, Thanks, Lieutenant Colonel! Yes, i mean to ask all of those questions X-D Okay! I don't own a copy of photoshop or anything of the sort, as I mentioned earlier. The image is not digitally edited except for a little cropping. I placed my Royal Navy reference book (slightly ajar so it could stand up) directly behind the Lego bricks to make a background. I bought this twenty-five dollar book two weeks ago at a Borders bookstore using a gift certificate that I originally received as a birthday present and has been laying in a drawer for a year and a half up until the day I removed it two weeks ago. This is because I usually visit my local library and rarely visit book stores. Anything else? :-D Let me know when you've moved your pics to Brickshelf so i can update the indexes :) The thumbnail pics turn out nicer on BS than flickr ones, and, unless i'm mistaken, you can have as many folders you want and have folders in folders on BS. *y* The Flickr interface provides me with multiple different sizes of each picture I upload to the website. Perhaps the size deemed "thumbnail" will make a better thumbnail. Quote
