This will be a fun contest, it would be interesting to see at the end what side would win, based on weaponry, stealth, and maybe votes.

I will have to first build my model without motors in it and add them at a later time,as I have most of my motors tied up in other projects.

In your case it probably comes more natural to build a base military vehicle (light bluish grey) that transforms into a civilian vehicle :thumbup:

Primarily Technic indeed, although you can use regular bricks for a Model Team style bodywork. Motorisation is absolutely not mandatory

Sweet.

With Final Exams this week, it's perfect timing.

I played with most, if not all, of the toys as a kid. (My neighbors had more than I did, though.)

I did forget just how cheesy the TV show was, though. Ouch.

Does it need to have equal or more black than white before transformation, or can it be a white car and then black armor slides out partially covering the white when in battle mode, or really is there even any preferred black to white ratio at all?

There's no limitation to the ratio between black and white.

Is the enforcer theme some high-tech police force (is the battle between bandits and enforcers public knowledge?), or some secret government organization trying to deal with the despicable bandits, without anyone knowing? I get the feeling it is the latter because of the whole transformation aspect. Just need to be sure.

That's a good question. For the Bandits it's important they are not easily recognized by the public and police. For the Enforcers goes the same, I guess. So yes, there's some secret/clandestine element on both sides.

Are the vehicles before transformation just the usual: cars, trucks, planes, boats...etc? Or could someone build an undefeatable monster from a huge construction machine or such. The rest of us would be easily obliterated, not to mention it wouldnt be too discreet to roll around in it (if the battle really is secret)

You can use any vehicle to begin with, so you can also use a big 18-wheeler if you like. Although I feel an 18-wheeler would only be used by the Bandits.

Are the bandits really that evil? (I need to know how much I should destroy them :tongue: )

Yes, they are evil and crazy at the same time. A potent recipe for mayhem.

Same here

Is it okay to have colors underneath the outside black and white panels, so that it shows in the gaps? (e.g. the light green from 42039)

Nope, you can use Grey as supporting color, but no other colors.

Posted

In the rules I had written that both sides can use any color in the chassis. I have to correct myself. Both sides can use grey in the chassis, but the Enforcers are not allowed to use other colors than black, white and grey.

My bad, sorry.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't understand why it is a good idea to only let grey color to be in the chassis and how strict that rule is. Are coloured pin+bushes allowed, or coloured angle connectors and axle connectors, or is that forbidden too? Maybe I'm the only one here who actually loves color vomit and don't want to see plain grey chassis.

I won't enter the contest, but this rule bugs me.

Of course you can use the blue pins. What I'm trying to avoid is that an Enforcer car clearly shows red, green, yellow parts etc.

So colored pins and bushes are allowed, but try to avoid using colored connectors (if they are visible).

Is that doable/acceptable?

I'd like to avoid this:

Of course it's doable, but I don't get it, sorry

Using ugly colors will only work against the contestant, I see no need to forbit it, and I do agree with the clear color coding of the body, but not the chassis. Maybe I'm naive, and letting to use colors will make people try to bend the rules without any common sense. Unfortunately we see that frequently in every contests.

So I explained the reason myself...

No need to excuse yourself :classic:

When I wrote the rules I stated that colors can be used, but then I saw the picture (the one I posted) and I thought "that's not what I had in mind". Enforcers should be Black & White, with grey to help you out. Colored parts in the chassis will likely be visible, which I'd like to avoid when the model is an Enforcer.

Like you said; when I allow colors in the chassis, we will probably get a discussion about what is the chassis and what is the bodywork. So it's easier to keep it simple, and only allow Black, White and Grey. And most people will have enough grey to work with, so it's not that you need to buy a ton of extra parts.

And if you do like to use colors, choose sides with the Bandits.

i have even more black than grey :D

Jim... but yellow hard suspension strings are allowed by Enforcers or?

Max...

Of course, yes!

Seeing as using them will be unavoidable, I cant imagine why not. You can always hide it behind panels. Same goes for pneumatics, tan gears, red gearbox parts, the orange on PF, and so on. If it doesnt exist in black white or grey instead, and it provides a useful mechanic you need, nothing can be helped.

Exactly! You get the point :classic:

Oh, how I wished to still have assembled the jeep with Hurricane-like extra wheels I made many, many years ago...

Regarding electronics and third-parties, are MINDSTORMS add-ons like those from HiTechnic and MindSensors allowed, just like the SBrick is allowed?

The contest is based on the oldskool series M.A.S.K.

Hah, that's exactly what slammed into my mind as I was reading the contest rules! :purrr: This video is also a good showcase of what the vehicles do:

There is a rumor that Matt Trakker(The M.A.S.K. Leader that drive Thunderhawk the Camaro) is going to be part of the next G.I. Joe movie, so we may be seeing some type of crossover..

There's already a crossover with Transformers (well, mostly shout-out): in Transformers Prime, Optimus Prime's new alt-mode is said to be based on a vehicle from the "M.A.S.K. Division".

Just one question - is it possible to use a red cone (1×1) as missile head on enforcer vehicle (that piece shoud be exposed in battle mode only - and without it is nor recogniseable that it is missile)?

Now, there aren't any double-agents or traitors, right?

There might be

Yes, of course. Little colored details are allowed, as long as they have a reason.

But since it is wasteland, and all kind of dangers are lurking from all sides, in "normal" mode, is it allowed for a vehicle to have some basic essential wasteland-ready equipment, like bars to protect windows, plate-plow? to protect radiator, or some fancy spikes?

As I understand wasteland, it is hostile environment set in wide open area, with few rural trading posts-small towns. So anyone, whether being in town or at the openness, would not be looked strange having these protection installed? Nothing for offense-attack, just some basic protection.

Hehe. Come to think of it; actually the wasteland theme kind of negates the purpose of the disguise.

So fair enough, some basic wasteland-ready equipment is okay. As long as normal mode, stil looks like a pretty normal vehicle (no Mad Max style).
