mahjqa Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I am well aware that this, in and of itself is an empty useless topic, but it's about something that has been bothering me for quite a while now. Can y'all please stop posting topics with "I want to build this thing! Check back later for more details!" I get that many folks are very enthusiastic about what they're going to build, planning to build, or the ideas they have. But these are just empty announcements, that are pushing down the topics of people who actually put in the effort and have something to show for it. I really don't mind people documenting their build along the way in a [WIP] thread. Or people asking for help on how to build a certain something. But please, for the love of the flying monkeys, put in some effort first. Show some pictures. Every cell phone, watch and tablespoon takes a picture these days. Quote
Werlu Ulcur Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I just agreed with Sariel on a thread exactly like what you're describing. I understand the enthusiasm, but creating a new thread just to say "I'M GOING TO BUILD A WHATEVER TRUCK WITH HARD SUSPENSION!!!" isn't exactly prime content and worth the effort to click on. Quote
TheNextLegoDesinger Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 true and also in contest don't make a topic instead you have something to show or talk about. don't make a toppic like this examle: hy i am entering the TC7 contest it will be a bandit i can say you that it will be 4X4 Sorry but that is just unnessesarry do something like this instead hy i am entering the TC7 contest with my Galaxy Killer PIC of the WIP it will have: -4X4 powered by an XL motor -steering by servo -green exterior -... i didn't know how to fit -... thanks this is how you make a topic. if you want to make everything secret don't start like Omnikron who made a TC6 topic with 5 pages of animations and at the last page he shows his moc after a whole month of his topic started. At first i liked his topic but after a few days this was just spamming my e-mail i know some people use WIP treaths so they stick with the progect put then create a [WIP] threat and not just a normal because then people want to see pics an movies about it thanks PS: Sorry Omnikron that i took you but you where the best and the first example i could find Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I agree 100%. I would add the teaser topics to the list as well. I tend to lose interest in those pretty quickly. WIP topics are nice, but please, none of the above. Quote
dr_spock Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Maybe they can be merged into a single topic. Quote
Jim Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I totally agree with your Mahjqa, and since lots of other members agree as well, I will be less tolerant about it. No need to flood the forum with empty topics. Quote
Anio Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 And when you have a question like "Should I pick 42000 or 42039 or 42008 ?", do not create a new thread. This kind of question adds 0 (zero, ZERO) value to the forum. Just ask you question in an already existing thread of 42000, 42039, or 42008, and when you have your answer, move on. Quote

DrJB Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Agree fully as well ... unanimous for once, nice. This has bothered me for a while as well, but did not want to 'offend' new-comers. So, a set of 'clear rules' might be the best 'Politically Correct' way to address this. Reminds me of a scene in Ice AGe ... You do not want to curb their enthusiasm nor genius, but I'm digressing already :) Quote
Lipko Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) I'm not an old member here and may remember wrong, but I remember that when I joined, more than half of the topics has showcased finished MOCs. Sure, it was not as lively as nowadays, but as a Technic enthusiastic and very curious person, it is telling for me that there are 7 threads that is marked as "read" by me on the page, with the bad habit of refreshing the site every 5 minutes. EDIT: hell, I am an old member here. 4 years and I have hardly shown anything... Edited June 16, 2015 by Lipko Quote
sm1995 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I hate to be the devil's advocate, but, I feel like well executed teaser threads ( like Omikron's thread for TC6) should have their place on this board. But then again, I'm brand new member and I haven't really earned my right to speak on matters like this, so please don't take offense to any of this. It's just my opinion that some fun and non-serious topics would help lighten the mood around here. If you create a new thread you'd get flamed for making empty topics and if you bump older threads you'd get flamed for doing...well, exactly that. I've seen this happen way too many times in other forums. Quote

Sariel Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Finally. I get the EB's "say nice things or nothing" attitude, but it's exhausting when one has to click through 10 topics before actually seeing some Lego bricks. Quote

I've seen this happen way too many times in other forums. this isn't even a teaser if i understand the meaning of teaser good. the point of teaser topics is that they show little parts of the moc, like they show you the frond end but cover what has to be done yet. not making comics that arent relevant to the topic Definitely. I get disappointed each time I open a topic like that, I just expect that they would have more details or things to show than that. Its nice to know who will be on what side, or what vehicle, but I still think that much more thought or effort would be put in before a topic is made. yeah most of the time i take about 30 min to make a new topic. like this i can think about questions that will come and awnser in advance Quote
MajklSpajkl Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I was so waiting for this topic! It is really annoying checking out such empty topics only to see that there is nothing to see, and that six guys would really like to see what will become of this "nothing to see". It's quite unbelievable that such topics have more views and replies than many other topics where there is actually something to see. Same goes for teasers, especially those with big words and no photos... Quote

Sariel Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) My yet another favorite are topics titled like "idea for a 6-speed gearbox" that consist of "I need one, can anyone share?". Nothing wrong with it per se, but it wouldn't kill somebody to start the title with "Looking for". Edited June 16, 2015 by Sariel Quote
