The problem I have with collectors is they drive up prices of collectible sets you sometimes get at events, I have never had one of thos but when I do I will end up in doubt because you have a couple of options:

A. You sell the set and buy loads of Lego instead

B. You keep, open and build the set.

I would prefer B, but when prices go sky high like 400014 I pefer buying lots of other parts for profit, but then the issue of selling a free gift of appreciation pops up. So curse you collectors for making this happen.

Without collector's though, there wouldn't even be the option for most to buy an event exclusive. The only way to get said sets would be to go to the event itself and get them. Other than that there would be none selling on eBay or BrickLink or what have you.

I am not intersted in buying such set myself, but when you get it as a gift and there is such a high demand that the price goes insane. This would place the receiver in a doubtfull place, because opening it would destroy hundreds of euro's of which you can buy much more LEGO, but then you have to sell a gift. So in my opinion collectors spoil the fun of receiving such set.

I'm a collector who takes things out of boxes and builds them like the instructions. I was like this since I was a kid, my creativity wouldn't come from what I built but from what I could do with what I built from instructions. Nowadays I don't really have the money for an organization system, or the time and space to become a MOCer- I've tried it, but the lack of space and an organization system meant I spent more time looking for pieces than actually building. I feel like MOCing isn't for me in this point of time but I still love LEGO and want to appreciate that. Just putting that out there, there's more than one way to enjoy LEGO  That's what makes it so great!

In general I open every new set I get in my hands. But currently I have about 100 MISB sets in my inventory because space to present them is limited. I have some older MISB sets like Fort Legoredo and Space Monorail where I am always in a huge conflict when I look at these wonderful packages and touch them. Shall I open, build and play with them or preserve the feeling of having these sets in virgin condition?

Sometimes I also think about longer before I open the seals and bagsof a set because I am scared about all the dust which will get into a every small gap of my builded sets. I have only one single glass cabinet to protect my builds from all this horrible dust.

I'm a displayer, but I'll mod any sets that don't live up to my completely arbitrary standards (the guns on 75050, the ramp and gaps in 75058...)
