AFOL Chat Room?

I was thinking the other day, and I realized I've never really been able to find a chat room for AFOLs and older LEGO fans alike.

So I was wondering, could it be that there is a fairly active one that currently still exists, or is there nothing like that anymore?

Either that or AFOL does not have time to sit and chat, but prefer the static nature of a forum. I for one does not have the time to sit still and chat using a computer.

That is nothing but a generalization. If some AFOLs have the time to browse a forum for some hours a day,

then surely some would have the time to jump into a chat for a small chunk of the day. If anything, it could be nice for quick advice or faster paced conversations.

That is also a generalization. Sitting in IRC and refreshing a forum page are two completely different types of activities. Many AFOL can't sit in a chat all day at work but are able to have a browser page up and surf around it every once in a while when the boss is not looking.

EB itself has no official chat because it creates no real record of what's being discussed. There are some who have stronger feelings against it than I do because I personally like chats.

The easiest way to find out for sure is to search all IRC servers for "lego" and see what you find. There are bound to be some out there somewhere, if it's kids or adults is up in the air.

No, it isn't. I was merely saying that some AFOLs have time for that, not that all of them do - I was not speaking for all AFOLs, so what I said is in no way a generalization,

nor did I ever say anything about sitting in a chat all day. All I said was that some AFOLs have time to chat for a small chunk of the day, not that all of them do.

Other than that, I can see your point, but I'm sure chat conversations don't have to last that long. A session of browsing a forum can easily be just as time consuming.

It just depends on how you decide to spend that time based on what you can spend.

The Bricklink chat from years ago was a fairly nice one, if anything, but with that one long gone, I'm not sure if any active AFOL chats can be found again.

Why are you getting so upset? I'm not sure you really understood what I was saying about having an IRC up vs. a static browser page. Anyway it doesn't really matter, just something I know from experience anyway.

Yes, bricklink chat was nice. There is an IRC chat for bricklink but it's pretty empty nearly all the time. Espernet #bricklink Feel free to hang out there and converse, maybe more people will come by again if more people come by One of the Bricklink staff stops by most days "QA_Ryan" and there is usually at least one other person around and paying attention.

for extended periods of time. Tuning into a chat every now and then, maybe to ask a quick question for a quick answer, or to have a short conversation about something LEGO-related,

would also be very possible - in my mind, at least, but I'm pretty sure reality would support that thought. A chat on a large LEGO fan site would be best for people who just want to pop in every now and then with a high likelihood of there being at least somebody to talk to because of the chat's accessibility, being part of a large fan site and all, but I haven't seen anything like that recently.

Yeah, that's probably possible. I've never seen it happen that way except on the old Bricklink chat which it happened a lot
