This entered my mind earlier and I can't remember if I posted the theory but it's possible Brand and Tarden are both Scum and started a fake PM to throw us off later. This has been a common Scum tool in the past (ahem ) but if that is the case here, Brand got over–excited and blew his fake–PM–load and didn't know how to handle me posting it. Why would someone be so adamant about not accusing someone of being Scum, just being suspicious of them. I'm still stuck on how weird all of that was...

I mentioned something earlier in the day somewhat similar to your theory. It certainly makes for an interesting tactic.

Scum stings (I hope I'm using that term right...where a scum gets an ally lynched to gain the trust of the town) seem to be kind of popular recently, but then I haven't been in the groove of things for a while.

That's a hard and fast rule? Any defending others indicates both are scum?

Hervi defends Jarl's comment as idiomatic mistranslation.

Going by your logic...

1. Cranbienn pokes Jarl. Could he be scum poking town to distract.

1. Brand defendy/suspicions me. Therefore he and I must be scum.

2. Brand defendishes you. He's scum (see 2, which happened before 1, but never mind) and therefore so is Agnar.

3. Hervi defends Jarl. Jarl is town if Cranbienn is scum, but then Hervi is scum is Jarl is town. But Hervi poked Cranberry. Is that distraction or is Hervi town too? Maybe Cranebean is too. But if Crabnean is, does that mean Agnar isn't since he poked Crabnizle?

Or maybe sometimes scum do randomly defendy/suspicion townies just to screw up neat chains of logic...

Hey guys, I've been out all day, but I have something I wanna bring to the table. Gimme a second to read a few things.

Actually, from my experience I find that scum are the only ones to defend townies on day one. They know they're defending a townie and if that townie turns up dead they look better for it, at least that's how I've always approached it when playing as scum.

Ok, here's what I been thinking about. Yesterday you may recall that Cranebeinn the Redder made a slight accusation towards me being the serial killer. Being day 1, this accusation was as well founded as any other so it doesn't bother me much. Later he posted this when asked if he still held those views:

On 7/6/2015 at 11:28 PM, Chromeknight said:

I suggested he might be based on something he said.

Others pointed out that the evidence in what he said was so slight they couldn't see it.

In the end, it wasn't the specific accusation but the responses to it that were interesting.

Jarl wasn't defensive or counter accustiory. He just ignored it, then calmly denied it. There was no panic about being 'found out'.

So no, I don't think he is.

This was all good. Early acusasions are essential to monitor how people react and he seemed to analyze the results properly. Here's what I didn't like. Last night after the initial accusation seemed to fizzle out he messaged me apologizing for the accusation. There was no need for this as everyone accuses early on but I appreciate the gesture. But in the message he stated something along the of that he was going to accept me as town (not a direct quote by I invite Cranebeinn to correct me if I changed the meaning). As I mentioned above, the only people who know who is town and who isn't are the corrupted, so I was really bother by his willingness to accept me as town. I actually told him as much, at which point he adjusted his initial comment by saying he might accept me but it doesn't mean he trusts me. I responded that it was fair enough and that has been the extent of our conversation. Now this isn't the worlds biggest ping, I'm just bothered by his willingness to call me town simply because I held up under the "weight" of his accusation. I figured I'd present it to the rest of you once I got ahold of my computer.

As for this whole current line of voting, does anybody get the feeling that this would be far to bold of a mistake for scum on day 1? That's why I'm searching a bit more in the shadows. And Cranebeinn if I've misrepresented our conversation in any way, please correct me. I'd hate for this to go the way of the earlier PMs simply because two people read the same words and saw different things.

Well... I had all sorts of things marked to comment as I caught up, but in the end, none of them were worth saying. Just this one was worth keeping. I think this is dead on - my gut says that Brand and Tarben and Pudding are three townies fighting with each other. So no, I'm not going to vote Brand. Odds are high he gets voted off as an easy target between the penalties and the fight, but I'm not voting for someone I think more likely to be town than scum.

My gut is rumbling from all the test batches of turning milk into mead, but it's also saying the scum are probably sitting back and enjoying an easy day 1. Plenty of fighting for them to make comments here and there without looking suspicious later, and no real threats to them getting lynched.

Potentially, but Brand might've jumped the gun. It would explain why he's entirely indecisive about what he did or didn't mean in this PM.

I'm trying to justify in my head why he's unable to come with up with a logical explanation for anything he's said and why you're just so content to wave him off as being townie.

I'm sure others can attest that my play style does involve reaching out via pm.

I said I was happy to accept that you were town. Nothing in that indicated rock solid certainty or even an outright apology.

I figured if Hervi is weighing in defending you, he's got more experience than me and the balance is toward your being ok. Since you were probably ok, I wanted to open a channel for future days as the town coaleses.

It's not like I then went fishing for roles or suddenly blurted mine, both of which I agree, would be scummy. I left the conversation there since there wasn't a lot to add until voting blocs form.

No worries about shining a light on this, I've got nothing to hide either

Nope, just mead. Scum eat popcorn (whatever that is), I drink. So far my mead sucks. Working on it though, which is why I haven't posted more. Besides, with all the fighting, who could get a word in?

Is it hasty of me to immediately want to vote Munud?

I contend he would be pretty as a serial killer if he noticeably panicked hours after ignoring your accusation. Considering he had posted, ignoring It and answered to it later, doesn't that make his response a little suspect. I find it odd that you would expect a serial killer to announce he has no allegiance to either side ands then freak out a day after his blatant confession was questioned.

Not "be pretty as" "be a pretty bad"

I'm definitely not content about it. He's the Day One lynch almost for sure, and I'm worried about it! I personally feel like his interactions with Pudding Head were pretty genuine and would be hard to fake, but now that he's backtracking and trying to get something started on me, I feel less confident in his towniness. He seemed pretty convinced it was a joke after I made that clear in the thread, and even PM'd me something along the lines of "You were pulling my leg all along!" (Not a direct quote - don't penalty me).

The more Tarben talks the less convinced I am about him. I have no idea where that leaves Brand.

Really? Seems like a very normal day 1 to me. Handful of people dominating the conversation with fights over nothing, a bunch of other "suspicions" thrown out that are baseless (really, the way everyone keeps thinking the scum will "slip up" and say something wrong and therefore we should jump down every single word said is just ridiculous.)

If I had a serious suspicion of someone, I'd bring it out. I don't, because I think what people are accusing each other of is dumb.

Unfortunately, I expect Brand to get lynched but we won't really learn anything, since I don't currently think Tarben or Pudding are scum either.

Vote Count

Brand (Brickelodeon): 11 votes (Penalty x5, Palathadric, Chromeknight, Jackjonespaw, KingoftheZempk, Hinckley, Lord Duvors)

Mist (Mencot): 2 votes (Dragonfire, Lady K)

Munud the Strange (mostlytechnic): 2 votes (CallMePie, Tamamono)

Tarben the Wise (Tamamono): 1 vote (Brickelodeon)

12 votes are required to lynch. 35 hours remain in the day.

Wasn't aware that I needed to vote, Pudding-Head. If it wasn't clear from what I said, which you clearly took to have little value, I don't feel particularly confident in the lynch of either Mist or Brand, who are clearly the two main focal points of today. That's why I didn't vote. I figured that was fairly obvious, and the idea that there was some expectation for me to vote despite having clear reservations interests me. That being said, I do think the Brand scenario is our best lead, and his lynch does seem to be the most realistic, so I am willing to place a vote there.

As others have stated, this comment is really strange. You act so flippant about the convoluted reasoning behind your vote, and yet later on you get very defensive when someone calls you out on it? And claim that you have nothing to hide, despite your reaction. This just seems weird to me.

You’ve said this kind of thing before. If you have to keep restating that you have nothing to hide, then you might just be hiding something after all.

There’s been a lot of strange goings-on here, but I find Cranebeinn’s behavior to be some of the weirdest. So for now I’m going to Vote: Cranebeinn (Chromeknight)

There’s still 35 hours left in the day, so I’d be happy to reconsider my vote if more information comes forward and/or if we have a better lynch candidate.

Vote: Brand (Brickelodeon)

As I mentioned before, one of the worst things I saw was when the scrutiny on him started getting heavy, Brand suddenly points out that only a few people are talking. It was like he was trying to completely change the subject and it is a tired scum tactic. Even as a defensive tactic, the timing of it was really bad, but I don't know how much experience he has being in a scum team, maybe it's new to him and he jumped the gun on other things and floundered trying to dig a way out. From what I'e seen before, he is the nervous type.
