Tire Escape is literally a $7 sized set that comes with a robber with an oar in a small tire and a jet ski lookin thing for the cop

I'm so tired of these cops and robbers sets.

Any female robbers in cheap sets this year? It seems like Lego only puts female characters in the bigger more expensive sets.

Well, this sounds like me. You're completely right, I agree with your post. I also spent countless hours looking those catalogues and town images. I don't know how, but I managed to build a very decent and large town (7x7 plates aprox.) plus the old airport at the age of 10/11. Unfortunately, my mother gave everything away to another child when I grew up. Big mistake, mum, big mistake.

Agreed. I'd love to have more City sets beyond the firemen and police sets, and that's all there is outside of the ridiculously large collection of vehicles, as well as the one big City set they release per year. But unfortunately, that's all they've released for the past 10-11 years which is why all I've bought are the trains. If they released some nice apartment or house facades similar to Santa's Workshop or Christmas Toyshop at a decent price, I'd buy those up in a heartbeat. Lego needs to seriously reform their City theme from the commercialized mess its created where they release sets only for a safe bet to make money instead of some nicer riskier set designs. The best source for hotels, apartments, and other businesses shouldn't be limited to Creator and Friends.

Nothing really news, exept the ferry and prison island. And TLC has finished to put some lanching "gun" in city sets, with aqua lancher from the firefigthers!

We just have to wait to see the pics, and be patient (I am), to schedull the 2016 byuing plan.

Yup, your comments are insightful. I am shocked and surprised that capitalism works this way.

Leaving aside that I don't seen many ATVs in real life, so likely they are misrepresented - I was a kid myself, and I doubt children are that crazy about ATVs. However, I understand why TLC throws them in everywhere, as they are a play feature (vehicle to move around). But they are also very simple and you don't have to think much about the design.

Yep, they're very simple, don't require many parts and thus make it possible to put a "vehicle" in a cheap set, or an extra "vehicle" in a bigger set. In the olden days - when vehicles would'n fit minifigs (the seventies) - a small car would contain about the same number of parts, while costing about the same as one of those small ATV-sets of today.

It's the same with open top cars. And small helicopters.

This year's City starter set is ridiculous... An ATV, a small helicopter, a jetski (wait, that's another one of those easy fillers), a small boat an a bigger boat, both mostly made up of a big piece and a few smaller ones. Couldn't feel more like a no-inspiration thrown togethers box of spare parts... A stark contrast with the starter set of 2013, which had 2 mid-size vehicles with interesting parts.

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but if you like making mini cars or something, there's a new wheel axle connector thing piece in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack:

Great, very useful part!

It's in many of the Fun Packs as well. So far I only know of it coming in Black and Light Bluish Grey, but then again you don't typically need that many colors for axles.

I do think that it's much more useful for Lego Dimensions (which includes small models that have to be rebuilt into multiple vehicles), though. As far as larger City/Town vehicles are concerned, I can only think of a few applications where this would be a better fit than existing axle pieces—perhaps it would help for building cars with odd-numbered widths?

Here starts the wishful thinking that we'll see that piece in LDD any time soon...

Join the crowd, buddy. This year I've been majorly invested in both Elves and the revived Bionicle, but of course LDD hasn't updated with the new parts from either theme (or any other parts from this year, for that matter).

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Also, normal clip pieces can attach to these axles, I believe, so I look forward to seeing what people use these for besides holding wheels.

At 0:18, is that a new car that is being chased by the police as don't recognise it! Police car tho seems to be the one from 60047 Police Station

A bit late reaction, but I just spotted the car in set 60097 "City Square", so not new.

Thats what I thought when I first saw it, but on closer inspection it has some differences to the one in 60097, ie

different windscreen, no mirrors, no spoiler on the back, light bley wheels and vents down the bonnet/hood. I can just make out the number plate as being BD 16353 or similar.

The car is also seen leaving the City limits at the very start of the video.

At first I thought it was the car from the flatbed truck 60017, but I just realised they are different. The 60017 flatbed truck and car is also shown apparently, at 0:05 - 0:06.

City sets have always been a stable winner for LEGO, you got to milk the cash cow so they can afford riskier designs in other themes. That being said, I wouldn't mind more buildings. Every city set seems to contain wheels or boats.. if you get what I mean.

Maybe this is what children want to have. Maybe children into buildings & "Daily non-vehicle life" play Playmobil as there's much more small equipment. Although we can see that Lego has lots of potential considering the Friends line.

I just checked, when I was a kid I had the following building sets:

6362: Post Office (1982)

6689: Post Station (1985)

6699: Cycle Fix-It Shop (1987)

6349: Holiday Villa (1988)

6355: Derby Trotter (1989)

6376: Breezeway Café (1990)

6350: Pizza To Go (1994)

I took over the buildings from my older brother except the Pizza To Go shop. Now, given that my brother was born in late 1982, and with my parents buying the sets at local shops, e.g. 6362 must have been around in the shops for four years (?), as I don't think he got any sets before the age of four. If this was really the case then this would be quite different compared to nowadays. The distribution of the official release dates might indicate that he received one to two buidlings a year, probably either for his birthday or for Christmas. No idea whether we were representative children (my cousins had several larger buildings including an airport and a fire and/or police station; the best friend of mine back then didn't have any City buidlings as far as I remember, his largest set was 6077: Forestmen's River Fortress, possibly also a caste, dunno). But nowadays one could come to a similar collection of buidlings based on the Creator sets. However, there's certainly some difference with regard to size and price, as smaller buidlings are not released separately any longer. Back then you might have got something similar to 60031: City Corner with two separate sets, or 3661 Bank & Money Transfer without the vehicles. On the other hand, in 2013 there was 31009: Small Cottage for 27 € and this year we get 31035: Beach Hut for 25 €.

Awesome sets you got back in the days, man. Looks like Pizza was always a part of LEGO shops, then and now. I'm a big fan of buildings, but I don't dislike the City sets. Just don't collect them as often.. only bought 2 this year. Arctic Base Camp and the latest Train Station. The rest of my buys are 90% creator sets, the rest were stray purchases. Still enjoy the smaller buildings.

That's what makes me sad about the new City lineups. They've all degenerated into yearly firehouses/police stations, with all the accessory sets, the one big City town square/city builder set (like this year's 60098, the seasonal special theme, and then three or four actual city/town buildings thrown into the mix with minimal effort. You can't build a good Lego city nowadays with all the sets they have, you have to cross themes and kit bash sets to complete a non fire/police building. We need more truck stops, bus stations, restaurants, post offices. Just give us something semi decent, we're all getting tired of the constant barrage of duplicate sets. We only need a new one every four years or so, kids aren't gonna miss out on receiving a firehouse every year.

WTF :classic:

Building your own Lego creations is now kit-bashing? :ugh: You have to cross the themes? :enough:

This isn't HO model railroading or Playmobil. It's a construction toy. All the bricks fit together in endless ways. All of them.

This forum is full of fans whining whining whining about Lego haven't made me this and Lego haven't made me that. Maybe the biggest mistake Lego are making is not putting "you are allowed to make your own creations" right on the box.

Whining mindless unimaginative over-grown men-babies with too much money to spend "collecting" a children's toy. Seriously.

Look at me, hero of arguing on the internet. :knight:
