XAxles Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 LEGO City is going places! Never noticed it until now, but City has a continuous subtheme with the most thrilling on-the-edge research they can come up with. Space*, Artic, Deep sea and now Volcanoes. The last big volcano sort of thing they did is this one: http://brickset.com/...-1/Volcano-Base I am really curious (assuming the rumor is true) wether it will be a large, tall facade, or a lower, closed cone. It probably has a small base camp too. I'm really excited about the City research subtheme and I wonder what's to come. I dare bet on a storm chaser vehicle and also a weather station on a mountain top (combined with telescope!) would be very nice. *underwhelming imo, it just lacked a 99.99€ space station This. It never sank in to me until you pointed it out, but now... Quote
ilikeboomerang1 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Wow! THAT'S GRRRRRREAT!!!!!! Seriously, a playground and rescue sets in one wave! He was right! We do have rescue sets! And I was a bit right, too, because I guessed after he said rescue sets that it would be mountain rescue, and it turns out we get volcanic rescue, which is even better! Besides, 10 MINIFIGS! That's great too! I like it a lot that now LEGO seems to include even more minifigs in sets! This will be an awesome summer wave! (calms down) Sorry, I just got a little excited. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The only problem I see with a playground set is it's going to come with a BUNCH of the crappy short legs. If it's a good design that won't stop me from getting it though. Quote
BlockLogo Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 So the park/playground will be under the CITY theme, rather than a continuation of the Creator mixer and Ferris wheel? Quote
8BrickMario Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 So the park/playground will be under the CITY theme, rather than a continuation of the Creator mixer and Ferris wheel? Yes. A playground is not a fairground attraction, just something found in a typical city park. Quote
CM4Sci Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Fairground attractions are for Summer 2016 Friends. Quote
Robert8 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Could that playground set be part of a school subtheme?? Like others said, a school bus would be neat Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) Thank you all very much for the pics and links to the reviews of the first half of 2016 City sets! I did already comment on the Fire and Prison Island sets. But here are my thoughts on the Great Vehicles: Rallye Car - no car doors + excellent design + nice new torso Speedboat + perfect price ratio performance + excellent design + even two additional buoys 4x4 + great design + a lot of accessory + nice new torso - with about ten studs in total it's much, much too wide Ambulance Plane  - no medical equipment inside the plane (even not stickers) - no tires under the stretcher + grandios exterior design (with the stickers) + three minifigs + motorcycle and two injections + perfect price ratio performance Garbage Truck - "fork lift parts" don't fold up - no place for the second dustman in the truck - with the "fork lift parts" on its side it's very wide - dustbin is too huge and doesn't have a lid + great colors and design of the truck + completely new design / function + a lot of accessory Van With Caravan  - no new minifig torsos - would have prefered a kid instead of dog and barbecue + perfect price ratio performance + van with car doors + can in blue (not red!) + caravan with some interior Ferry  - no ladder upstairs to the bridge - senseless chair - no car doors + perfect price ratio performance + great design + holding two regular sized and one small car Small Blue Car + nice color - no doors - much too small in comparison to all Lego City vehicles theses days Which I'm really disppointed about is firstly that there is no snowcat (although it would have made a perfect addition to the snowplow from 2015). The set I like the most in this series is the ferrry, closely followed by the ambulance plane, the van with caravan and the garbage truck. Klaus-Dieter Edited December 16, 2015 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) Someone's seen the summer catalog and says the biggest set is a Volcano Rescue sort of set. Research or something. Also a playground set with 10 minifigs. I'll post more when I get it. I heard about the playground set like last year, and thought it was cancelled. Well, then it was the park set. So glad it's coming! Thank you very much for this information, CM4Sci and just2good! So shall the new theme be a volcano rescue or volcano research theme? Volcano rescue sounds weird, but who knows. A volcano research could really have potential. I fear that that playground / park set is not a City set, but the Amusement Park from Friends (there must be one since there will be the set 41129 Amusement Park Hot Dog Van)! But I really hope that my fear won't be confirmed! Since a playground as well as a park are both really since long overdue and would be a perfect addition to Lego City! What about the rescue sets, the cleaning sets and the parking garage legomilk had posted already some months ago? Klaus-Dieter Edited December 13, 2015 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
sasbury Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) Agree completely with you on these. And, yes, a snowcat would be excellent. http://store.mohawkl...0_marquee-w.jpg Thank you all very much for the pics and links to the reviews of the first half of 2016 City sets! The set I like the most in this series is the ferrry, closely followed by the van with caravan and the garbage truck. Klaus-Dieter Edited December 13, 2015 by sasbury Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 It's a Volcano research for sure They use the same gimmic as Arctic sets - Trans orange rock-balls with crystals inside. Wait for more info soon :) Quote
Roebuck Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 So no return of the farm sub-theme in the summer Do the playground/park include any animals? Quote
Lego_v194 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) New polybag - 30349 Sports Car Nice design but categorically I would think of this vehicle as a fancy cool go kart (and not really a "sports car") With that said, this will be on my "to buy list" Edited December 14, 2015 by Lego_v194 Quote

Wait for more info soon :) Thank you very much for confirming this, Lordofdragonss! Here is which things I could imagine being included in this theme: - big volcano with lava-throwing-away-function - mini vulcano - mobile lava drill - (unluckily only very minimalistic) laboratory - mobile laboratory - truck and excavator - vulcanologist with pearl grey torso and legs and the hazmat's helmet in pearl grey - helicopter with winch - quad What do you think? I dare bet on a storm chaser vehicle and also a weather station on a mountain top (combined with telescope!) would be very nice. Since it'll be a Vulcano Research theme I highly doubt that we'll get a storm chaser vehicle and a weather station. I guess TLG will give us a huge vulcaone as main set and in addition three or four medium sized and small sets based in the vulcano research - like in nearly every subtheme. New forklift pieces coming in 2016, if they're not already in some sets. Thanks for this information, CM4Sci! I can't imagine a forklift to be included in the Volcano Research theme. In the park / playground set it can't be. And that it'll be part of the the rumored cleaning sets is highly unlikely, too. Maybe it comes with the rumored garage which may have a tire depot? Or will we get a set or theme of which we haven't got any clue yet? Klaus-Dieter Edited December 15, 2015 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Hewman Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) New forklift pieces coming in 2016, if they're not already in some sets. The piece in the new batmobile set? instead of a spring it uses a rubber band which doesn't seem as durable. Edited December 15, 2015 by Hewman Quote
jonwil Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 There was a new style of forklift introduced in 2013 in the Cargo Airplane and Cargo Truck sets and used again in 2014 in the Cargo Train set, see http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=45707b and http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=4518c This is the one that uses the rubber band instead of the spring Is there a new-for-2016 forklift part beyond this new-for-2013 part? Zusammengebaut Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Hello, this is my review of the new Lego City set "Prison Island". This set is well done - and it is a fun build with some secrets. If you like, you can check out my images right here. And this is my video - in German. But if you have any questions about the set, no problem - just post them. Best wishes Andres Quote
mon-o-mat Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Volcano research? I can't imagine how the will do a complete wave of sets for that. Quote
Bricknblue Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Knowing how LEGO thinks. 80% of a 'playground' set will be cars and trucks with about 100 pieces for a swing and a slide. Quote

I had hoped this would maybe give me a better look at the front and back of the new corner BURP, since none of the set pics show it from behind. Edited December 16, 2015 by Lyichir Quote
KlodsBrik Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hmmmm .... Im a bit dissapointed with this set. Overall the outside of it looks sort of great, but then again it looks quite blend. Not at all what i expected from the box art. It does however hold lots of great pieces, and im sure i will get it at some point when i find it at a good price. Thanks for the review. Quote
