I never understood why everyone wants guns in city, a lot of countries don't use guns!

same here in Ireland....besides, Lego City is intended for young children (even though AFOLs post here) so there should be no valid reason to include weapons.

OMG! There are weapons in old ages Junior sets, and in ninjago and tmnt Junior sets. Lego is evil [mode ironic off]

I would love to see a nice hospital to compliment the police station 60047 and the fire station 60004. I would build one myself if I had enough parts and some doctor and nurse minifigures. Actually, a whole medical subtheme would be awesome.

I actually like it! Looks like a nice little racer. Better than the umptieth kart-like thing, much more like a nice little car.

It's funny how Lego gives the crooks crowbars and explosives that they could use to terrorize civilians, and then expects the police to take them down using a megaphone and handcuffs.

I still don`t undestand why TLG isn`t doing their annual police and fire stations as proper buildings (fitting the modulars).

I tried creating a police station using the same amount of bricks as 60047 and managed to design a proper closed building (with interior) using only ten bricks more

@marv :Dude those Stations look amazing. In my Eyes they look much better than the usual open Buildings that always look like they forgot to build a 4th Wall. And you only used 10 more Bricks?

Fantastic!!!

And about the Playvalue:Maybe you could build the rear Wall hinged so it can be opened (kinda like the Bikeshop and Cafe.

When have they ever given the crooks explosives? On Bricklink, zero of the LEGO City sets that contain dynamite have crooks in them (except the coin bank, where the dynamite is clearly being used to break open the coin bank). And I don't think I've seen any other types of explosives besides dynamite in LEGO City.

Crooks do have crowbars for breaking into places, but just because they COULD use those to terrorize civilians doesn't mean they DO. The crimes we see in LEGO City sets are all non-violent ones. Sure, a kid COULD act out a LEGO City crook attacking a civilian with a crowbar. They could also act out a LEGO City fireman attacking a civilian with an axe, but that doesn't mean LEGO should be designing their sets with that possibility in mind. :/

Nice design! However, I can think of a few reasons for LEGO creating open-backed buildings in LEGO City. For one, in a diorama-style building, you can look at minifigures at eye level instead of always peering down at them from above. This can make the play somewhat more "immersive", like you're there in the building with the figures. Diorama-style buildings can also make it easier to reach inside to play with the figures than a building with an open top. And of course, you usually don't have to take a diorama-style building apart into sections to play inside, which you do have to do with a modular building. I'm not saying that diorama-style buildings are inherently better, but I do understand why a lot of kids might prefer them.

There's also more to a set than the number of bricks. I think if you gave a kid a choice between the police station you designed and 60047, they'd probably choose the latter. 60047 has a two-level cell with lots of playable escape routes, four vehicles (three for the police and one for the crooks), a watchtower, an opening garage door (apparently kids love these), and a spinning communications dish. Lots of great stuff for kids to play with. Yours has a bunch of desks, one van, a small prison cell, and a bathroom with a floor-length window (probably not a great idea, even though I know LEGO has been guilty of this in Friends sets). Overall, there's just much more potential for action/kinetic play in the official LEGO police stations.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the fire department now puts fires out by shooting water balls at the fires? I think that's really silly and makes me hate the fire sets even more.

Jang reviews prison island:

The exterior is really nice, but the interior (like most city/creator sets) is lacking

The interior is lacking quite a bit. I saw the bed in the left (back view) tower, with the voltage door beneath it; I thought it was an electrocution table at first! It shocked me that Lego would put something in like that, but then it was seen later in the review that the room was just a breaker room. I believe City did a pretty nice job for this half of the year. Also, the easy to break out of prison explains why there are so many police sets with so many crooks on the loose.

I wasn't interested in the new fire station since it is so similar to the most recent one from 2013, but after looking at it a while it may not be too much work to modify it into a nice hospital. I'll probably pick it up on sale sometime

Prison Island looks amazing. It feels very fresh and different from usual stuff IMO, though the Swamp Police stuff from this past year was also pretty unique.

I like the variety of figures it comes with - but why do we not get the hat from the CMF S9 Policeman? I mean, it's nearly the same part but the badge on the hat is actually part of the mold instead of being printed on like we see on this version. That;s only a minor quibble, really. Also glad to some cool prisoner - and legs with the chain-gang print!

Nice to see that the bars in the prison island are Titanium Metallic (aka Perl Dark Grey) rather than the Light Bley that we got in previous prison sets. Some other nice pieces in there too (like the hot air balloon and some of the minifig parts)

Prison Island is definatly on my wishlist (I own every City police station except the one with the light-up cop and the non-light-up-cop variant of that same station and need to get this new one to keep my collection going)
