I actually think the airplane hanger set is a pretty good deal. It's three planes that would probably be $20-$25 a piece, plus the hanger. I'm curious to what you would be willing to pay for it?

The way you break it down makes perfect sense. The cheapskate in me doesn't want it to be that much and to me, overall, it doesn't look like a hundred dollar set.

it doesn't look like a hundred dollar set.

Welcome to LEGO City.

Also it's a $90 set, not $100.

But yeah, the police island prison I can see being $90, it feels $90. The Nexo Castle is $100 and feels like that's fine. I get what you are saying but this is LEGO 2016. If anything about the top five sets of 2015 shows it's that people will still buy expensive sets so why not rip us all off? LEGO already got the memo to do that with the Batcave and Hoth 'base'.

There are some really good value-for-money sets in the City line, like most of the Great Vehicles, but some sets seem way overpriced, especially the medium to large sets. I'm sure there's more to TLG's pricing strategy than pure price per piece. Some sets seem to get a high recommended price and then get discounted more heavily for the Holidays.

Agreed, City Vehicles are really well priced for their sized.. But for buildings, they City sets feel almost criminal. For those, I stick to Creator stuff..

Even if City sets are (too) expensive, that $90 price tag for the gas station has to be a mistake, right? I know that piece count isn't everything, but usually in a set where the piece count is low and the price is high, there is something to warrant it. Like bigfigs, or huge parts as in airplanes, or (in days past) 3D baseplates. This set has absolutely nothing to make it stand out, and I don't even think that it will be as popular with the target audience as say a police or fire station.

At $60 I would say it's expensive because they can. At $90 I say someone confused the numbers 6 and 9 when printing that sign.

As of right now that is the price. LEGO can do what they have done with a few sets and lower it after no one buys it, like they did with the Friends Hot Air Balloon.

Or if we keep complaining maybe they will listen!

I like the 2nd idea better

It's like they want us to be mad about the prices on these real "city looking" sets, so they won't make abymore city type of stuff. Lego is probably saying, "since we're giving everyone these sets they've been asking for, let's price them higher than they think."

All I want personally is some more actual "city" sets, like a restaurant, more actual stores. No more police stations! I don't care if that's what sells! The kids can go one year without 'em.

The 60047 Police Station is the #1 (no licensed) set in sales

LEGO won't just ignore that.

There are probably like 3 police stations in the works right now

That been said, I agree with you, it would be nice to get more diversity in the city line

I'd also love to see some restaurants, retail stores, etc. It would be great to see things like a Post Office, doctor's office, dentist. I'm not opposed to Lego regularly having its best selling sets on sale, but if they're going to release a police station every year or two, I wish they would be innovative and deliberately design them so that they could be combined into a single, larger Modular-esque building. I understand that the very nature of Lego allows kids to do that already, but it could be more deliberate. One year the police garage, the next the jail cells, the next the line up and interview rooms, etc.

Also lets not forget it wasn't even a 2015 set! >< It literally clobbered everything else in City for the entire actual 2015 line-up despite its price, size, subject matter, AND age!

>.> Maybe LEGO R&D already has more than 3 in the works heh heh! Imagine the storm if anything of equal size/parts for police makes the list for next year's report \(o.0)/

Creator sets are your friends here I guess.. City line seems to be reserved for sets with higher play value.

We've had forest police and swamp police, so maybe snow police, deep sea police, volcano police or construction police?

I have been doing that for years, no one has been listening. :classic:

To be fair it might not have been the number 1 in sales, it was probably the number 1 in profit, and there is a difference.

We have Creator for houses, the new corner deli is lovely. We also have Friends for things, which is mainly what I buy and mod them.

A donut shop!

Creator sets don't do it for me. The 3-1 vibe kills it and they have like nothing in the interior because of the 3-1 thing. City sets out details into their interiors. Prison Island is awesome and considerably the only City set I have wanted ever next to the Park.

Over all LEGO City needs to get more diversity. They have a lot of things that haven't done yet things such as a school or library which would be really nice to have.

By the way there was a donut shop in IXS as a building you pas in freeway frenzy!

I'd love to see a donut shop. Why hasn't this been a thing yet?

Most likely because it isn't "a thing" in the rest of the world like it is "a thing" in US.

No wonder we Americans are so tragically obese...

That has more to do with the BMI being a joke and a horrible measure if people are 'heathy' or not and more to do with a culture of ignorance, stupidity and beyond horrid health care.

Wait? I'm in a LEGO forum right? Umm... Legos are cool.

I'm a little surprised Friends doesn't have a donut shop yet. The USA is the biggest market and we like our donuts.

You must live in the north. People up there aren't as fat at the ones down here in the south.

You're correct about that one!

And yeah, LEGO is cool.
