I started my AROCS today. One mod so far, of an aesthetic nature, to convert it to right hand drive. So the steering wheel has moved and so have the supplementary wing mirrors.

I got this recently and just finished assembling it. It took few days and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the build techniques and parts assortment. However, I felt the set had weaknesses regarding the pneumatics. Thus, the MODs I see useful would be:

1. Add an air tank, so the boom does not fall if you switch a pneumatic function.that once

2. More ambitious: for the large cylinders (supporting higher loads), it might be better to use LA's.

the point about LA's is, you have to lead an axle all the way to the motor, or use you hand. pneumatic tubes are flexible, and thus much easier to make a (motorized) crane with. and about the crane that drops, if you switch gently, the air will not pop out all at once and it goes down slowly.

 I like to convert all my models so that the steering is on the 'right' side

Same for me!

Of course. I never said or implied it was an easy thing to do. LA's tend to hold their position when power is switched off. With pneumatic cylinders, you have to actuate only one cylinder at a time, otherwise those supporting higher loads will give in, this is especially true if the cylinders do not hold the same air volume. With the 8455 this was not the case. With both the Unimog and Arocs, you can only operate one function at a time. Not to re-open the debate of LA's vs. Pneumatics, but one must be cognizant of such 'limitations'.

Hi all,

I just purchased this model over the weekend and have built the B model from the instructions. when I used the crane on it I have a sound which sounds like 2 parts are knocking on each other or some gears are out of line, it makes the whole trailer assembly rock side to side. Can anyone else confirm this is correct?

Its the pump. It is not exactly knocking, but the sound of the pump is amplified by the loose attachment of the trailers deck.

Thank you for the reply, I've removed the deck to get a better look at what's going on inside and I still have the same issue. When I'm not using the crane function but have the red lever on the crane, the pump almost sounds like it's going to stop. All other functions the motor works smooth as clockwork, nice and quiet and a steady motion but when I use the crane it just sounds really unwell

That crane would look lovely next to 42009, really reminds me of 8421. I hope instructions come along soon.

They are slowly coming to life ;)

The carrier is almost done, now it's time for the the fun part - gearing inside the superstructure...

wow that looks awesome, I always thought crane gearboxes were slightly tough.

Well, there are few gears there ;)

That looks simple. Is it just me or is it missing the changeover gears?

Yes, it was a quick sketch made in LDD. Gear setup is simple, but frame that holds them in place is a little complicated, due to restricted pile of parts of single set :)

Anyone tried building the same cab in different colours yet?

Here are the possibilities:

Black Cab

Green Cab

Red Cab

Orange Cab

Long, long time ago I`ve started my Arocs with a red cab, but still not finished :hmpf_bad: because I need red parts to another MOC :sweet:

Finally finished modding my Arocs, made it full r/c thanks to Shine Yu's r/c mod, changed parts of the front to white, added an extra stud width to the guards, made a fuel tank with receiver in it and Adblue tank, battery box and air tanks on other side, made bin longer and changed rear lights and bumper. Pretty happy with the changes.

I was even using the L motor. Slow and steady, but not for business-critical trasport!
