Kristel Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I'd like to present the Cast Iron Building, which was inspired by the cast iron buildings in New York This was one of the eight buildings in The Promenade, which was my individual layout for Brickworld in Chicago last month. I have built it several times now - the original build, a rebuild for the instructions to make sure I could put it together at BrickWorld, setting it up as part of my layout and then again this weekend to take photos. So, I'm a little over it! Hence, no interior and also no proper name, as this is always inspired by what's inside the building. Here it is as part of The Promenade (credit for the image goes to RoxYourBlox): Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions always welcome! Quote
BeardedNerdSE Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 It's not pretty (not my style of building), but it's pretty cool! I like how the palisade bricks add a slight curve to the front of the pillars. The trashbin is also a nice touch. Quote
Hobbythom Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 As allways from you a very realistic facade with clean lines. You allways manage to capture the right proportions. Are there more pics of your promenade? Quote
Bennemans Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Very lovely, clean building with a very nice subdued colorscheme! (But what else would you expect from you ^_^ ) The use of those dark tan windowsills and the columns of tan sideways log-bricks are great, subtle touches. So no plans on an interior whatsoever? Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 'Kristel' this has hardware store written all over it, it's a wonderful, practical looking early late 19th/early 20th century building. Brick On ! Quote

None whatsoever. It's been around so long now and rebuild so many times that I really am over it. Don't get me wrong, I do like it, I just want to move on to the next one. There is another whole new building, two modified buildings and one remodelled building in The Promenade that have yet to be rebuilt and photographed individually. (Note to self: do the photography before the convention next time!) 'Kristel' this has hardware store written all over it, it's a wonderful, practical looking early late 19th/early 20th century building. Brick On ! Thanks LT! Hardware store hadn't crossed my mind, but I suspect you could make it work as a hardware store! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Thanks LT! Hardware store hadn't crossed my mind, but I suspect you could make it work as a hardware store! You are very welcome 'Kristel', now is that a challenge ? You need an interior design for the ground floor ? Quote
eurotrash Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 As I said on Flickr it's always good to see your creations. I really like the color palette and the facade details. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 This is a really nice build, and the Promenade looks great too! Quote

peedeejay Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Very cool and clean build. Proves again that you don't need many different kinds of bricks to build a stunning looking modular. Also love your street for the Brickworld. Quote
Sir Stig Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I like this a lot. I think it would fit as a shoemaker or printing press/Book-or-news-agency. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Your work is always impressive. It's nice to see another one from you. I wish I could have seen your set-up up close at the convention. Maybe in the future. I like the simplistic nature of this one. The front facade is very uniform, yet the little depth that is added really makes it stand out. Color scheme is always well chosen. It's not my favorite of yours, but it is yet another worthwhile build for your set-up. Have fun with the next one. I can't wait to see it. Quote

Also love your street for the Brickworld. Classic - looks good! Thanks! I like this a lot. I think it would fit as a shoemaker or printing press/Book-or-news-agency. Thanks! I like the idea of a news agency, as I don't remember seeing a lot of those done (except as news stands or kiosks). Quote
flailx Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Love this! Clean and classic lines and fits in perfectly with any of the modulars. I also love the offset work throughout! Quote
Palixa And The Bricks Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I like the clean and simple style of this one and how the arches connect the two tan floors visually. A pity that there's no interior. I also thought of a news agency :) Looking forward to your next building. They are always instantly recognisable as your creations. Quote
Redhead1982 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I agree with others, the building looks simple and elegant at the same time. The symmetry is perfect for this size of building, and the way you managed to keep some elements aligned vertically, and others horizontally, makes the front look even more interesting. It would be nice to see some interiors, but I know from my experience that sometimes it's just to much to make it. Quote
Sir Stig Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 You have to make the interior. Please? This build may possibly IMHO be your best build so far (and you have a lot of very good ones). I am considering how I could make it in ldd, just because I want to see how it looks with interior and a few scenes (paperboy filling up his cart/bike in the back of the building, or in the front selling papers, paper mill scene, author delivering his long-awaited second novel, etc.). snaillad Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Nice work again Kristel, the layout at Brickworld looks great. As usual I really like the offsetting work on the ground floor and like the choice of the open stud bricks underneath the windows. Well done! Quote

I haven't broken the building up yet, and reading all the comments has given me an idea for the interior. It won't be a news agency, but something somewhat related. Thanks for the inspiration everyone! Quote
