So you take offense at people on the internet calling a children's toy "childish"? And you read Amazon reviews? https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Kd5BA9Pp_gg/VtR0YfKGqAI/AAAAAAAAMWo/lCjY3KjN9dA/s1600/tomorrow02292016.jpg

I agree with your way of thinking, but I can't help but associate this mindset with the way bronies justify their interest. For example, "Sure it may be designed for extremely young girls, but adults can enjoy it too.",

That's literally what all of us here on Eurobricks are doing..... So you think that those age recommendations on Lego boxes (9+, 12+, 14+) are just a little joke by Lego designers, and Lego is designed solely for adults?

I personally do not agree, but it's an annoyingly widespread opinion. Obviously, Ninjago is primarily aimed at kids — but so are the vast majority of LEGO themes. And you rarely hear people saying the same thing about themes like LEGO City, LEGO Castle, LEGO Pirates, LEGO Scooby-Doo, and LEGO Super Heroes, all of which are typically aimed at even younger kids than Ninjago.

Needless to say, any AFOL who holds sets like Ant-Man Final Battle, Tow Truck, Brainiac Attack, The Mystery Machine, and Fun in the Park - City People Pack (all aimed at ages 6–12 or 5–12) in high esteem, but who considers Anacondrai Crusher or Raid Zeppelin (aimed at ages 7–14) too childish, is in serious need of a reality check. They might not like Ninjago, and that's fine, but they can't prefer sets and themes aimed at even younger kids and rightly claim it's because Ninjago sets are too childish!

It shouldn't. If you're an AFOL or TFOL and you're not exclusively buying sets aimed at ages 10+, 12+, or 14+, you need to come to terms that the thing you're enjoying is primarily meant for kids rather than for you. If you wouldn't accept the "adults can enjoy it too!" justification from a brony, how can you expect people to accept that from an AFOL or TFOL like you?

I have no problem accepting the way bronies think or what they enjoy. The part that bothers me a little is seeing a fanbase that is so ridiculed and unaccepted by every section of the internet back themselves with the same logic I have been backing the LEGO community with for most of the time I have collected LEGO, and although I respect their community, I do not want to associate my hobby with them. I am self aware what I'm saying makes little sense, but that is the best way I can type out my thoughts. I hope you guys can understand.

Please quote where I said I took offense from any of it. All I asked way what the community thought about the comments. Edited by SmashCat9000

Do you guys agree with people who say Ninjago is on the more childish side of the LEGO themes?

Of course. I err more towards the hardcore, exclusively mature and serious side of colorful plastic building toys.

If it's childish (which it totally is) then I am absolutely fine with it. The majority of Lego I buy is ninjago, as well as CMF and Lego Ideas, but my house us absolutely packed with ninjago models and vehicles. And I couldn't give a damn if the internet data its for kids. I'm basically a 29 year old boy anyway...

Shadow puppet theatre... That's very grown up right? Right? Er..

Depends on the hand that's pulling it out. Can't wait to get this figure either way.

But the most convenient and, most importantly, quick, way to do that is to use the hand closest to the desired sword.

You'll lose time and it's inconvenient of you reach across your body to get a sword your other hand could have gotten. You could be defeated that way, seconds matter.

Thing is, people don't actually think about sword placement. The new scabbards are also placed inconveniently by everyone as well. They just pose what they think looks cool. I mean, there's nothing really wrong with that, but it radiates some form of... arrogance, to me, especially when people don't care after hearing explanations (from others). Sure, the show's done it right, but only a few instances.

Tbh, Ninjago is rather a line for TFOLs , the line grows with its fans! Just like bionicle!

I agree. Ninjago designs are less and less "silly".

Regarding the possible childiness of buying Ninjago I would argue it depends a lot of what you do with your sets. If you swoosh them all day long, you should probably aknowledge there is still a child in you (which is not necessarly a bad thing). And even fulling shelves with them may hint your child needs were not fully covered.

But if you see them as a modelism medium, digging them is no more childish than fetichising on WW2 tanks. Ok the building experience is easy, but by MOCing, especially if you reach some Iron Builder highs, you could genuily impress anyone. People will see creativity and craft more than the bricks...

It is a toy for kids and who cares? I mean, were getting to a point where I as staff have to start questioning maturity levels and actual age.

I'm a woman (shock horror!) and I like MLP, I did not as a child, the current lot is so enjoyable that I picked up some merch. I have more fashion dolls than I ever did as a kid (Where were the robot girls and ghost dolls when I was a kid huh?) and my sister currently collects and modifies dolls as a hobby.

I also have so much LEGO that if my six year old self saw it, she would probably explode from how cool that is.

I fully accept that to some staid and stuffy circles, you can only like anything from a small pool of "acceptable" hobbies for "adults". However these days a lot of adults are allowed to enjoy what they want, be it video games, model trains or colourful plastic bricks.

Now, can the debate be continued elsewhere on the forum as this is more an issue facing all LEGO than just Ninjago as a theme.

It's starting to feel like people are looking for re-assurance, rather than a discussion of how Ninjago is viewed...

Oh, oops, ninja'd.

My friend just gave me his spare Pythor minifig, I wouldn't have ever gotten that set myself to get it.

Does anyone else think his design is a little... Simplistic?

It looks like it's just white and purple to me, while the earlier design was more colorful with gold and black.

Possible, and not being overly familiar with the storyline: Wasn't he a villain in his first appearance and then converted to the good guys later on? Sometimes in simplistic design terms, the baddie has a more complicated and fussy look than a straightforward good guy.

He was still evil when the white version first showed up in Season 3, but at the end of Season 4 he ended up helping the good guys against Chen. Whether that makes him "good" is debatable, but the ninja did see fit to reward him for his aid. In the Ninja DB-X box art he is presented as a bad guy, fighting against Sensei Garmadon and wearing a harness matching the belts of Chen's followers, but this box art does not reflect the events or even the circumstances of the show.

I kind of think the reduced detail on the white Pythor figure is made up for by the stylish Anacondrai harness (in the same style as Chen's followers). Mind you, in the show he never actually wears this harness, and his patterns in the show do still include the gold markings.

I tend to collect DC sets, due to the high price of collecting, but I tend to pick up small Ninjago sets as well. I absolutely love Cole's tiny dragon; it is one of my favorite small-range sets ever!

Oh I love that dragon too!! The way they built it is amazing and the head of the dragon is soo cute I just wish they built a better mouth :/

Check your local Targets, most of the Anacondrai season sets are on sale. Was able to get myself a Condrai Copter Attack for $9! Pretty good set and minifigs, Skylor has got to be my favorite ninja as of now!

Oh right, the show sees him with yellow markings as well. Really don't know how LEGO made the white variant, but forgot the additional markings. It's like Pythor's black arms all over again.

One thing i'd like LEGO to do, is make katana variants. So far they're only in four colors.

Not only would I like a white katana, i'd also love if they molded the katanas differently. However, i'd like them to mold it in a way where it's basically still the same sword piece, but giving it a little, extra.

Like a shorter blade (LEGO's had this coming for a long time...), or the nindroid swords with the Japanese characters on them.

She was the main reason I picked up that set!

I picked up the nexo knight ultimate clay the other day and the titanium dragon. The TD is great though I'm not massively keen on how white it is, I might try to MoC more grey into it in the same vein as the mech dragon.

But the reason I mention ultimate clay here is because that build comes with four lightsaber hilts in dark blue. Two for the back spinning swords, one for clays main and a spare.

So I used the spare dark blue hilt with my ultimate team ninjago lineup aboard my destiny's bounty. Each ninja wears the deeostone armour (as its my favourite) and other mods. Until the titanium hair pieces comes out my Zane has the lighter hairpiece from rebooted, Lloyd has a face open hood and green cloak, Cole rides his small dragon with ghost legs and dark green head. Each of them has a specific lightsaber hilt which is for their individual elemental blades, kai's is the long golden one from the kai fire mech, Cole has a black lightsaber hilt and his green Eblade, Lloyd's is golden, wu also golden, Zane has a white hilt (plus a blue engery shield), nya has the curved hilt that assaj ventress has in the star wars sets, and now I am satisfied with jays new dark blue hilt.

Can anyone give an idea if there is a red hilt in a set or series somewhere I could give to my kai or a light blue for nya?

Tldr :)

You can at least "close" the mouth by angling the lower jaw up onto the exposed stud, leaving the claw grip angled on the rod. It's not perfect, but it works.

Thanks! I tried that and it doesn't look half bad!

I don't know of any.

However, Cole can also use the brown hilts, if you have those.

You can also give Kai just the plain red lightsaber blade, and Nya a blue or red one.

Also, if you watch the TV show, you could MOC the dragon to look more like that. It's got titanium armor on.

Second to that! The regular katanas are fine, but if you collect Ninjago, you are getting a ton of them within no-time, so a little more variation would be nice. How about a katana with a stud for the pommel, similar to the butterfly sword? The Dragon Sword of Fire is still my most favorite blade piece, because of the intricate detailing. I would really love to see that come in Silver and Gunmetal Gray.

Oh the blades aren't a problem. I had all the final battle elemental blades for the main four ninjas plus the skybound sets also came with extras as well as the new colour elental blades for lloyd, nya, and wu. Cole has his black lightsaber hilt so that isn't an issue. Likewise kai has the torch hilt from his final battle mech.

Hopefully Lego will release a red or dark red lightsaber hilt piece in the future...
