Lyichir Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) If you guys are wondering whether or not it's gonna USE either of those pieces, it's not. It's made with one of those pieces used for long tails. That's what I figured based on the picture. I like the solution they came up with. It's a lot nicer than the Technic angle connectors from this year's Pirates sets. The only flaw I could see is that the "trunk" is much less textured, but I think the use of the bush piece near the top more than makes up for that. It's a lot more than a quantum leap. The old palm trees looked like the kind of fake palm trees you see in water parks and the like. That's why I used the term "quantum leap"—as in, it's a massive leap forward without there having been any significant developments in the intervening years. A lot of the time, design developments in Lego have a tendency to be evolutionary—just look at the incremental updates to things like Star Wars ships or Lego City vehicles. As far as I'm concerned, this tree design is revolutionary—it eschews past design techniques in favor of a design that draws more from actual flora than from the sorts of fake palm trees you mentioned. CM4Sci Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Yeah, I tried rebuilding the tree in LDD to post here (that shouldn't be against the rules, come on, lol) and it wouldn't let me, so is that considered an illegal build? Or is LDD just not that great? Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Well, I for one hope they bring the old palm tree piece back. I miss that darn thing. :sad_cry: But as far as replacements for the piece go, the tentacle piece sounds great! I hope it gets released in cheaper sets (and many of them) so that I can amass enough to actually have a palm tree forest. I love that they're using the bush piece upside down. It looks like they're taking cues from moccers! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Or is LDD just not that great? It would probably not be considered an illegal build. Keep in mind that, unlike many other pieces, the "leaves" on the bush piece are designed to be slightly flexible. So despite being rigid and causing a collision in LDD, in real life there wouldn't be undue stress on any of the parts in question. Quote
Ardelon Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 From the description and CM4Scis pics, this theme is looking very good. The idea of previous kinds of villains teaming up appeals to me strongly. It may even be a better source of parts for historical builds than NEXO knights. And of course, thanks to all involved for descriptions and doubly to Sci for drawings. Quote
CM4Sci Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I wouldn't say yes to the historical bit. But yeah, you're welcome. I'll see if I feel like drawing more tonight, it's only the smaller sets left. Quote
Lyichir Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It may even be a better source of parts for historical builds than NEXO knights. If you're looking for alternate sources for historical parts, don't forget about Elves, either! It was a good source of rare and unique parts this year and will probably continue to be one next year. DraikNova Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 -snip- I know what you meant. I was just expressing distaste regarding the way quantum (usually used to refer to the smallest possible amount of some quantity, the individual elements that make up something that otherwise seems to be continuous) is used in said common phrase. At any rate, I look forward to seeing more of your awesome drawings CM4Sci. Especially Jay's dragon. Quote
azog Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Can anyone send me the link for the drawing of the island? Quote

At any rate, I look forward to seeing more of your awesome drawings CM4Sci. Especially Jay's dragon. My point is that I was using the term "quantum leap" correctly. The point of that usage is in comparison to how electrons jump from one quantum state to another (which is to say, they never exist between energy levels, but rather seem to "jump" from one energy level to another instantaneously). A "quantum leap" is thus in reference not to an amount of progress, but rather to how said progress "skips" intervening stages, instead of being developed incrementally. Unfortunately, the term is frequently misused to refer to the size of an increase rather than the lack of intervening stages. The more you know! Quote

CM4Sci Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Yup, can't wait for Jay's elemental dragon. Wait no longer! Quote
TPLSTER21 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Wait no longer! Thanks Sci! Are you able to do the other remaining sets? Can't wait to see Sky Shark!! Quote
NinjaJayNuva Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Wait no longer! Wow, that was the coolest dragon I've ever see, by the way, was Jay's hood different from the one you drew in misfortune keep? If so, I believe this is what the hood will be like, as in the possession preliminary images , all the sets seems to have the old hood except the Jay Walker one set, so I believe this might be the new hood. Jay isn't in Misfortune's Keep? It looks like this year it's the same outfits at the summer ones but with new prints and a new shoulder piece. Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I'm loving these sets! They are amazing, there's 4 down, 3 to go. It'd be great if you have the time to draw the other three Sci. If you can't, it's completely understandable. First of all, thanks for taking your time to draw these. It's nexo knights and ninjago for me next year. Quote
Mandate Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Wow! That's looking pretty nice. It's got a better head design than the Titanium Dragon and the DB 2.0, thankfully. Hopefully a better wing design, too. Am I seeing a spring launcher on these wings? Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 It's sad, I think toxicita is just a placeholder. She's attacking Jay, she became good at the end of the tournament of elements season. I don't think she would come back all evil. If we do end up getting her, that'll make her appear in three sets within Three years(2014-2016) I really do want her again, the more elemental masters the better. So do we know who's the other ninja besides kai in the island set? Quote
Ninja of Fire Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 They both look the same to me. Wait, what's that red oval with the question mark representing? Is it a rubber band? Or... Quote
benderisgreat Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks for the drawing CM4Sci . The Jays dragon really looks like a recolored version of Zanes Titanium Dragon from January 2015 wave. Really curious about Tocicitas inclusion in this set, though. But overall I am not a fan of this set, as it seems like another remake. Really hope you can draw Sky Shark set soon. It's the one I am most curious about. Quote

Tox didn't have a bone in her hair, and Toxikita only shares visual appearance with Tox. Wait, what's that red oval with the question mark representing? Is it a rubber band? Or... It means that in that area CM4 couldn't make out what was there. Probably a flag pole or something, given the space constraint. I'm curious about the monkey's gun. Is that a stud shooter with a chain attached to the projectile? Quote
