Mandate Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Because 1. It reminds me of Shadow of Ronin *shivers* and 2. since it inspired by the show, why not just go all the way and make it identical or near identical? And I'd have instead liked a scar in the show rather than a scarless Kai from now on. Why change it, y'know? Since when did Shadow of Ronin alter the faces of the characters? Sure, the acting was Kirsten Stewart quality but they didn't change anything about their faces. I'm glad they didn't go with the show design for Kai's new face, his "Agent Chase" grimace was far too expressive. I would have liked it more if they he still had his grumpy face on, but having him smile works too. Strange enough, later on in the future, Kai has NO eyebrow deformities at all. Strange. He actually does. Quote
Aanchir Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I really like Kai's new face, but did they have to give him printed legs? It'll be easy to swap them out, but it was pretty pointless to give Kai printed legs when he didn't have any with that armor. Maybe they just wanted to avoid Kai being the most boring figure in the gift box? All the other figures in the box have uniquely printed legs. And as you say, it's easy to swap them out. The "point" is to make the figure more desirable for people who care more about how it looks than how accurate it is to the show. Quote

The entire game wasn't like the show at all, for that matter. And also, in that game, the way Kai smiles resembles the way the "new" face looks. And that made me sad. He actually does. Oopz. The reflections themselves were as one could say, "low quality". It really looked like he had none. And, unfortunately, that means no scar for Kai :( Edited November 27, 2015 by gamejutzu Quote

The "point" is to make the figure more desirable for people who care more about how it looks than how accurate it is to the show. But who is going to buy the box set for Kai other than NINJAGO fans? The City fans won't - most of them seem to hate NINJAGO. The Chima fans won't be either, and most certainly not the DC fans. Best case scenario one or two might actually display Kai now, but the average person won't be going out of their way to buy the box just because that one character looked pretty cool. It's a very conflicting decision too, because they've both chosen to be more accurate to the show and also less accurate by making the addition of printed legs, and as a collector of NINJAGO that really annoys me because if I swap out the printed legs for normal legs I don't have the full figure on display, but if I do have the full figure on display as LEGO intended is going to clash with the same versions of Zane and Lloyd, as well as the annoyance that they made a change that did not have to be made, and the collectible value of the figure has been diminished for it. You put all your figs on display? I actually think it would be a good idea to switch Kai's legs for regular red ones, then give his legs to zukin or original Kai. Those original suits do pile up if you collected Ninjago normally. The faces were fine, it was the cartoony expressions and graphical limitations of the two worst mainstream platforms to play games on. Then how did Ninjago: Nindroids have the same cutscenes from the show. Face it, that is the regular Lego game cutscene. The same can be found in Lego Marvel Superheroes as well. They didn't even try to stay somewhat true to the show. "The actors aren't available". Heh. Ha. LEGO and Cartoon Network are apparently having a conflict or something, because if they can't even use the same voice actors for pre-made cutscenes, what hope is there for ever resembling the show's? Instead there is the lame Lego style cutscenes, with the Lego style mouth movements and such. Very resembling of the new stone armor Kai. Edited November 27, 2015 by gamejutzu Quote

I actually think it would be a good idea to switch Kai's legs for regular red ones, then give his legs to zukin or original Kai. Those original suits do pile up if you collected Ninjago normally. I keep them on display until the next wave of sets, usually. The ones not on display are in storage and I like to keep them intact whenever possible, the Australian heat is disastrous on sets even weeks old. Then how did Ninjago: Nindroids have the same cutscenes from the show. Face it, that is the regular Lego game cutscene. The same can be found in Lego Marvel Superheroes as well. They didn't even try to stay somewhat true to the show. "The actors aren't available". Heh. Ha. We were talking about Shadow of Ronin, not Nindroids, and I'm not sure what you're getting at with Marvel Superheroes either. If the actors for the show genuinely weren't available at the time of production for Nindroids (and by extension, they weren't in SoR for consistency reasons), then that is a valid reason to choose different actors for the characters in order to create the game. LEGO and CN? Pretty sure you mean Wilfilm and TT games, and neither group does. In order to create a game based off of a very particular set of events (in this case, The Surge to Enter the Digiverse) you can't just simply transfer the cutscenes into the game and call it a day, sometimes things need to be explained outside of these cutscenes and there absolutely must be dialogue inside the levels. If the actors from the show weren't available, it would be media suicide to release a game where characters were voiced by multiple, very different sounding voice actors. I'm not sure what you're getting at on that final note, though. Quote
gamejutzu Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) I'm not sure what you're getting at. We don't want this to get too heated. The cutscenes from SoR are in exact same style as other Lego games, like Lego Batman 3 and Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Hardware problems have nothing to do with it. In those cutscenes, the way Kai looks, particularly his mouth, especially when he is smiling, resembles the smile on the minifig very much. Let's get this straight. Not even one of the voice actors for the several characters that voice the characters were available. For Nindroids, Shadow of Ronin, and Lego Dimensions? I'm not buying that. Even minor characters, like P.I.X.A.L and Dareth are not played by their respective actors. None of the characters are. Now that I think about it, maybe "conflict" is the wrong word. But something is up, and all I smell is excuses. They're not telling us something. Edited November 27, 2015 by gamejutzu Quote

WILFilm's in Denmark, and TT Games is in the U.K, so they probably have contracts with different voice acting studios. Quote
gamejutzu Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 People, this is the SET discussion It is.. Kinda? It was partially about the new Kai fig anyway... I still think the italian prices for the Raid Zeppelin and Jay's Dragon are wrong by about ten dollars/euros. They look too small to be $40. Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 It's not coming in LEGO's cache so I'm assuming this is new - unwatermarked image of one of the Juniors sets I have no clue how you get all these pictures so quickly! You must spend all day sifting though endless streams of data searching for them! Love a lot of what I see here: the printed pieces are especially nice! The arch and the dragon head are quite cool. A lot of the pieces here are nice. Golden dragons are sweet. Can't have too many of those or the other gold pieces in this set. And of course, the unique(?) Dark Green Serpentine is fabulous. I don't often long to acquire Juniors sets, but I might make this my second exception. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Trust me, it's harder than you think. Just tons of searching. I don't think it's easy. I can hardly find leaks after they're common knowledge! Thanks again for your work though! Someone's gotta do it! Glad to see a re-release/reimagining of Lasha. Never got many of the Serpentine when they were out, which I regret, so I may get that too. Although I really should be rationing my Lego purchases so that I can afford things like "Rent" and "food." ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

gamejutzu Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) Again it happens. The pics almost always come right after I post! The junior sets aren't exactly super complex with technic mechanisms or anything, so watermark or not, there isn't much to see here. Reminds me of 2012 though. I've already seen Kai's new face. And the generic-ness of the it makes me cringe... Edited November 28, 2015 by gamejutzu Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 No problem! Glad to help. Oh, and this is Kai's new face - For a second there I thought "Wow, Nya's face has really changed" Good find! I will admit though it makes him look a lot younger. Reminds me of Lloyd now. What gave him the scar in the first place? I'll admit, I'm glad to see it go and hope it's a more permanent thing, since unless they start giving him different exressions, I have enough of serious scar faced Kai. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
SKYGOAT Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 i miss scar face(kai) im not a fan of the new face. it's just a little odd that they made him look like he's 10 when in the show the ninja have been teachers, talk show hosts, flying dragons, and what not. i'm not sure if its funny or just plain odd. i feel like kai and the ninja have been through some s*!t, so their faces/expressions should show it. but then again i am reallly reading into this. no big deal if the gift set face is a one time thing. benderisgreat Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 So Juniors Ninjago sets are now officially revealed, but regular sets aren't? Is it because normal sets are released in March and it's too early for them to show up? Would really like to see high-res Skybound sets pictures, instead of Juniors. But since juniors are released I should talk about them. Really appreciate that we get another chance to get 2014 ninja outfits since I wasn't collecting them until this year, and wouldn't mind getting some of them. As for the builds - it's juniors sets so can't expect great builds here. Overall nice move by Lego to give us old ninja outfits. Quote

Maybe to build anticipation for the sets people will be most anticipated to get? Y'know, a Lasha and spitta lookalike are pretty good, I guess, but I would have preferred the 2011 suits, with printing tweaks here and there. That would be so awesome... sigh..
