Posted July 14, 20159 yr *I'll try again with this Flickr malarkey* Hi all. This is my first attempt at building a Moc of this size, and it's a work in progress, so please be gentle. Apologies in advance for what will probably be a long OP. A while back I got the Cantina set, 75052, and like many others thought it was somewhat lacking in size, and there wasn't a bartender included. The initial plan was to just get another set, and extend it so there was seating areas either side of the bar, whilst still keeping it opening as the Lego offering. Then Google and Lego Digital Designer(LDD), stepped in and that idea went out the window. A few seconds of Googling, and I came upon this image: Cantina_Blueprint by Micky Wardle, on Flickr Having seen it, I thought, "Yeah, I'll have a go at that." This is where LDD, poked it's nose into things, and something that should have been fairly small, became so much bigger..... After many hours, I came up with this: Cantina Final Draft by Micky Wardle, on Flickr All roof sections will open, as will some wall sections, and it will open out like the set from Lego. Cantina Opened by Micky Wardle, on Flickr It's being built using 6 32x32 baseplates, and 3 16x32 baseplates. I've taken elements from other sets, like the speeder from the Droid Escape set that I have, 9490 Droid Escape, and the Moisture Vaporator(sp) from the Tusken Raider encounter set, 7113 Tusken Raider Encounter. The inspiration for the bar, came from Marvelous Roland's awesome Cantina Moc on Flickr (link) asked his permission to use it as a design basis and add my own twist. I've tried to keep the design in keeping with Lego's offering, also. So, after all that, some photo's of actual bricks.. 20150712_193018 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150711_153352 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150711_153120 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150711_153108 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150628_192429 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr As I said at the top of the page, it's still a WIP. All comments, suggestions, and criticisms, are gratefully accepted. Nearly forgot, a link to the album on Flickr: https://www.flickr.c...th/19480862169/ Thanks for looking. Excuse the photo quality, they were taken on my phone.
July 14, 20159 yr Hi micky, and welcome again to Eurobricks! As requested I've removed your original thread It's always good to see new MOCs and the LDD design looks great, you've captured the look of the Cantina really well. My only suggestion would be to add some more detailing to the roof sections; several other Tatooine-based MOCs I've seen use tan tiles on the roof to create a raised edge. If you're looking for inspiration for any finishing touches, these may be of interest: (link) and (link). I look forward to seeing further updates. Cheers, Robin
July 15, 20159 yr Author Thanks Robin. And thanks for the links, also. There's some awesome Mocs out there! Unfortunately, I need to BL some more pieces to continue with the actual build, there's over 100 pieces required for the roof section that covers the bar, alone. In the mean time, I'll probably keep changing elements in LDD..... Micky.
July 16, 20159 yr I loved your design, I am planning to do same thing for myself. Is there any chance that you can share the LDD file with me? Thank you.
July 16, 20159 yr Author I loved your design, I am planning to do same thing for myself. Is there any chance that you can share the LDD file with me? Thank you. Sorry, no. I'm happy to share images etc, not the LDD file though. I wouldn't know how to anyway. I've put a lot of time into the design, and I'm changing it regularly, and I'd like to protect my IP as much as possible until I've completed the build.
July 17, 20159 yr Author Unfortunately, I need to BL some more pieces to continue with the actual build, there's over 100 pieces required for the roof section that covers the bar, alone. Hmm, I might have just put some quite large orders in on BL.......
July 18, 20159 yr Author Half a dozen or so BL orders placed and paid for. When they are delivered, I can crack on with this.
July 23, 20159 yr That's a good start. If you are looking for movie accuracy then that technical journal schematic is not the best. This page highlights the problems with it. There is a lot of good info on that site that can help. Studying the movie and production stills is the best resource although it's not easy due to the way it was shot. If you're not interested in movie accuracy then just ignore me :)
July 23, 20159 yr Author Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that before. I'm not going for accuracy as such, more a sort of familiarisation. All input is good input though. Going from the above link, I seem to have gotten the entrance, sort of correct. Entrance hall and droid scanner by Micky Wardle, on Flickr Also done a little bit more, one seating area section completed apart from the actual seats. The roof is in 2 sections and is hinged. 20150723_180630 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150723_200429 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150723_201537 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr Excuse the clutter, I'm a bit of a messy builder.
July 27, 20159 yr Author Erm, well, I might have actually gone and finished the build. All the roof sections are hinged, some wall parts are hinged, and some of the sections are hinged, so it opens out similar to 75052. 20150725_124332 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124350 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124358 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124542 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124549 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124554 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124602 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124810 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124818 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124834 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124844 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr 20150725_124859 by Micky Wardle, on Flickr Over time I'll add more minifigs to populate it, and also sort out the pieces holding the roof sections together, so they are all the same colour, maybe. I also need to come with some contraptions for the power room at some point. Other than that, it's done, Possibly.
July 27, 20159 yr Great work Micky, that looks really impressive! If you're looking to improve it I'd suggest some more detailing on the roof sections (perhaps including a few antenna, or maybe the odd satellite dish!). I wouldn't make it all tan though, I think a few greys and dark tans help to break it up a little
July 28, 20159 yr Author Thanks Robin. It's probably far from finished, if it ever will be. I think it'll probably evolve over time. There are already parts that I want to tweak to add stability. LDD is great, but, it doesn't factor in weight of bricks etc.
February 21, 20169 yr Author Long time since I've updated this thread, pretty much because nothing really has been done until recently, other than on LDD. I've made a start on adding some detail to the roof sections, trying to replicate some form of air conditioning/purification system. Also added some equiptment to the power room. March 2, 20168 yr Author Thanks. The brick count is currently at 4104 bricks in LDD, and that doesn't really include any patrons in the Cantina. Add in all the characters needed to do that then the brick count will increase quite a bit. There's a lot more still to do in reality. One of the roof sections has been redone slightly in LDD. It also needs all the bracing on the underside of the roof sections to be mainly the same colours, I'm just not sure what colour to go with. The list goes on, and on.
