Andromedas Gates Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Challenge 2: Unknown menace Due to the recently discovered activity in the center of the galaxy, all corporations' governants asked their employees to start building a defense fleet. This fleet may contain any spaceship from small fighter jets to large battle cruisers. Rules for all categories: All rules in the General Rules thread apply unless otherwise. Players will earn credits according to their score. Entries won't reward resources or domination points. Your sigfig must be present in the build. The number of minifigs is unlimited, as long as they fit in the vessel(s). Entries must be at minifig scale. There is no size restriction. Note that challenge C has a minimum size restriction. Because the theme is about the vessel no bonuses will be awarded for job related builds. The challenge will run from July 12nd to August 30th. As long as it is still August 30th somewhere in the world, you can still enter.Note that there are different runtimes per category. Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified from the challenge and will not be scored. Entries will be judged according to the General Rules. This challenge is open to all players of Andromeda's Gates, even if they joined EB or signed up for the game after the challenge has begun; the Andromeda's Gates staff, EB admins and moderators are not eligible to win prizes but may earn credits. All entries must be new creations, not posted anywhere else prior to being entered in the challenge. You may be asked by a staff member to change your entry if it is too similar to an earlier creation. All entries must be built from real LEGO or with Lego Digital Designer. No clone brands, no third-party custom parts. All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Andromeda's Gates subforum, the title prefixed by, "[Challenge 2][Cat X]". (For example, "[Challenge 2][Cat A] Vessel name".) Post pictures no larger than 1000x720, as specified in the EB Member Guidelines. You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects onone picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than color adjustment or background removal for a solid-color background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or color (not tint or adjustment, but actual color) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. All entries are considered WIPs (Works In Progress) until the deadline passes. Until the deadline has passed, you are allowed to change and improve your MOC. Alien builds: Aliens are allowed to compete in all three categories. Winning a category with an alien build will only award credits. Domination: Because this challenge is not related to a particular planet, no domination points will be awarded for each entry. Instead at the end of all three challenges the CEO of each corporation may point out a connected planet where the fleet is travelling to. The corporation receives 1 domination point for every build for the chosen planet. The alien build with the highest score may also choose a planet and subtract a domination point for every alien build made from the chosen planet. If multiple corporations are present, both loose the number of domination points to a minimum of 0. Determining winning corporation For each category, the corporation score is calculated by adding 0.2 point for each participant to the average of all the participant's scores. The winning corporation for category is the one with the highest score. Overall winner The corporation which scored most points, all categories scores added together, wins the challenge and will receive an additional: 50 gold, 50 copper and 50 mithril. Category A – The swarm Small to medium sized fighters and shuttles – most of the time one to three seated vessels. Restrictions: 1 to 3 seats maximum. Runtime: The challenge will run from July 12nd to August 2nd. As long as it is still August 2nd somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Judging: Entries will be judged between 1 and 10 Rewards: Winner will receive 50 credits, the corporation of the winner receives an additional 25 gold. Winning corporation will receive 250 awesomnium, 100 water, 100 biomass and 25 gold. Category B – The center pride Medium to large or even huge sized haulers, merchant vessels and command ships – large enough to move large quantities of resources, civilians or military. Restrictions: Minimum of 5 seats. Runtime: The challenge will run from July 12nd to August 30th. As long as it is still August 30th somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Judging: Entries will be judged between 1 and 10 Rewards: Winner will receive 100 credits, the corporation of the winner receives an additional 25 copper. Winning corporation will receive 500 awesomnium, 250 water, 250 biomass and 25 copper Category C – A peek inside What maybe even more interesting than the colossal appearance of the ship is the interior, control rooms tight multiple screens, captains quarters or even a docking bay for your swarm. Show the inside of your vessel, a part of it or just a single room. Restrictions: Minimum size of 12 x 12 studs. Runtime: The challenge will run from July 12nd to August 16th. As long as it is still August 16th somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Judging: Entries will be judged between 1 and 10 Rewards: Winner will receive 50 credits, the corporation of the winner receives an additional 25 mithril. Winning corporation will receive 250 awesomnium, 100 water, 100 biomass and 25 mithril. Edited July 15, 2015 by Andromedas Gates Quote
WickNole Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Cat. A: Runtime:The challenge will run from July 12nd to August 2nd. As long as it is still July 26th somewhere in the world, you can still enter. Other than that, Awesome! One question also: how many builds are allowed per player? One in total or one per category? Col. Brik Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 "minifig scale" Go big or go home, this will be a fun one. Quote
aeralure Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Inclusion of your sigfig is more specifically stressed here than in the General Rules. How does that work as regards LDD? Is an approximation acceptable (and a really rough one, at that)? Quote
shmails Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Cool challenge and certainly something different for me. For categories one and two, should the ship be alone in the picture, or be set into scenery of some type? If scenery is allowed, space only, or landing on a planet? Quote
Graham Gidman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I've been itching to do some spaceships lately. Quote
Garmadon Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Looks like a lot of fun, particularly category C! How many vessels are allowed per entry though, e.g., could someone build three two seater ships for one entry to category A? Quote
narbilu Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 One question also: how many builds are allowed per player? One in total or one per category? One per category... How many vessels are allowed per entry though, e.g., could someone build three two seater ships for one entry to category A? We will judge one vessel, but if you make multiple vessels of the same design, knock yourself out! For categories one and two, should the ship be alone in the picture, or be set into scenery of some type? If scenery is allowed, space only, or landing on a planet? Whatever you want, we will only judge the vessel and no domination points are rewarded for any planetary builds. Quote
Dragonfire Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Is it possible that Cat.A could be extended by a few days? Edited July 18, 2015 by Dragonfire Quote
Umbra-Manis Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Is the Cat C. entry allowed to be the interior of a Cat B build? Quote
Garmadon Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 We will judge one vessel, but if you make multiple vessels of the same design, knock yourself out! I can't say I was actually planning on doing it, just curious... Quote

It has to be a separate build, don't go easy... That sounds good, but I won't be able to enter Cat.A due to vacation Is it possible that the category could be extended by 4 to 7 days ?? a lot of us are going on holidays, so sorry, but no Just make the other two blow our minds... aeralure Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Acceptable... my sigfig also changes his shirt once in a while Cool Challenge. Thanks! Enjoyed the other one too. Edited July 15, 2015 by aeralure Quote
Garmadon Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Another question. Will each of the builds be judged the week it was posted, or will they all be judged together at the end? Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 We'll most likely judge each category's entries at the end of each category's runtime, but results will only be published at the end of the challenge. Quote

Dragonfire Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 My Challenge 2 - Cat.A is also up (Kawashita Y-Class Shuttle Mk.VI) Quote
David FNJ Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Why must it be minifig scale? Guess they felt like having people build a bunch of minifigure scale spaceships!Maybe during SHIPtember they will have a challenge that requires microscale spaceships (microspace) instead of minifigure scale. One of the categories could be to make one that is at least 100 studs long Quote
shmails Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 (edited) Are we allowed to make some custom stickers for our ships? I would love to put an octan ensignia and call number on my design. Also, does the interior scene have to be from the ship we design in category B or just a ship interior? Edited July 20, 2015 by shmails Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Custom stickers are allowed, especially if its for a corporation logo. Entries for category C must be new builds. You can build an interior for a category B ship that didn't have an interior though. Quote
Commander Turtle Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 But Category B's deadline is before Category C, plus B needs 5+ seats to qualify... Quote
