But Category B's deadline is before Category C, plus B needs 5+ seats to qualify...

I think the question here is if you build an interior scene for cat C, can you then build a ship arround an enter it for cat B. And the answer is no.

Thanks Bob, what I meant for the interior question is can I build an interior scene from a much bigger ship (like the Axle) than the one I design in category B? Lets say my big ship is a dropship or something, can my interior scene be a loading bay or medical bay from another ship or should it be the interior of the dropship? Thanks again for the quick response!

Guess they felt like having people build a bunch of minifigure scale spaceships!

Maybe during SHIPtember they will have a challenge that requires microscale spaceships (microspace) instead of minifigure scale. One of the categories could be to make one that is at least 100 studs long

It'd be really nice to know if we're going to do a SHIPtember challenge. I really want to try a SHIP this year, but not 2. If there's no SHIPtember challenge, then I'll do 100 studs on my Cat. B ship. If there IS a SHIPtember challenge right after building the Cat. B ship, my parts (and wife) might revolt against me if I try two with 100+ studs in a row.

I'm just following up on shmails question. If my Cat B ship already has an interior, am I allowed to make my Cat C entry the interior of a different ship?

I'm fairly certain that regardless of what you do for Cat B, your Cat C has to be on a different ship... a bigger ship. Cat B is a whole ship, with enough interior to fit 5 people, but Cat C is just an interior. A build cannot serve as your entry for both categories.

But it says right here:

Category C – A peek inside

What maybe even more interesting than the colossal appearance of the ship is the interior, control rooms tight multiple screens, captains quarters or even a docking bay for your swarm. Show the inside of your vessel, a part of it or just a single room.

I'm pretty sure that's just a wording thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but all of the Categories are required to be different ships. Category A is for a small ship. 1 person to 3, from a small fighter to a personal shuttle. Category B is a medium to however large you want ship, from a freighter to a carrier ship. Category C is for the interior of a truly massive ship, like the Axle. Something just too big to make the exterior in minifig scale. There is no micro challange, so Cat C is there for those colossal ships that just can't be built in a month. "Your" ship just means it's a ship that you inhabit.

Categories B and C ship could be the same, but you can't enter the same entry, or part of a same entry, into two categories. You can enter a ship in cat B and build a room for cat C and say it's the interior of the ship. You can't build a ship with an interior and enter the ship in cat B and enter a closeup of the interior in cat C.

Hope that it's clear, because I didn't even convince myself :look::grin:

Thanks for the reply, Bob! :classic:

Your answer does leave me with a question, though: Cat B needs to be minifig scale, right? I guess I'm just confused about how an interior of the same ship could be entered as part of Cat C, without its interior being a judgement point of Cat B.

You're saying that a build for Cat B which is minifig scale, and does have 5 seats might not have a real interior apart from the cockpit with the seat, and that a seperate build entered for Cat C could show what an interior of the ship would look like? :sceptic:

Sorry if my question is redundant.

My concern is this:

I build my Cat B ship, and build it like a modular building such that it's entire interior is viewable.

But now, I cannot enter Cat C.

So may I enter Cat C with an interior of a different ship?

I see nothing in the wording that prevents that. Sounds like it was originally intended that they were all different ships.

Although, technically, I see nothing in the wording of Cat B that strictly says the entire ship must be shown either - just that it is a ship that seats at least 5 minifigs. Seems possible that one could do a capital ship for Cat B and Cat C where Cat B shows the bridge and outer housing of that area while Cat C shows the hangar bay, engine room or some other area. However, that may not be possible as the implication from Cat A is that the entire ship is shown as it's a smaller fighter and it's worded the same as Cat B, which may be meaning to say the entire ship is also shown there, with interiors shown specifically for Cat C.

Is making a story related scene for cat C ok? I want to make a scene where there is a kind of alien attack : )

Should be. I know some folks at Octan want to do story related builds like the sort you're talking about. :classic:

What about building the Whole interior of a ship for cat C? (like building it in cross-section)

That's fine

You can, but the action won't be part of the score.
