But... well, I used to be a Bonaparte men, and they've got some fine enough men in those ranks - one of them should be in the process of transporting your friends and Daneeka right now - but, I've seen oppression. I've been to the Hovels. Seems to me the U'Kin have it even worse than those people in the Hovels - at least with the current leadership they have a shot of making it out, if even marginally. Sven seemed to have a no U'Kin no matter what policy. That doesn't sit right with me. Course, I've known U'Or for a long time too, so anyone who thinks a U'Kin isn't as smart as any other fellow, well, I happen to know that they're dead wrong. "Yes. Well-" U'Or opens up his briefcase and begins to ruffle through some papers, but Guffington shoos him away. "Do not worry, U'Or. I can tell Hybros what we are looking for."

"Up ahead, where Mr. Abelsword's dragon friend is leading us, lies a great flame called the Dragon's Heart Flame. The Dragon's Heart Flame is an ancient relic, said to be the very thing that gave us mortals - how shall I put this best - a passion for life. As well as our great power. The dragons have jealously guarded if for years, as they are wont to do. And who's to blame them? Which mortal race has more power and more passion. Which is a nobler race? The dragons have even tampered with the flame over the years. It's what granted them, so the legends go, the ability to fly and breath fire, to see glimpses of the heart and the soul. And we shall be trying to extract a tiny itty bitty ember." He smiles. "We'll have to see how that goes. Vipera, who I gather you all know, told Princess Ella and I that she would not be sorry to see a small portion of the flame go. It can replenish itself easily. But, as both you and I know, sometimes those with power wish to be the only ones with power, and Vipera is not the only dragon in Dastan."

"Not me. I've had enough of being a special snowflake for one day. Besides, I think Miirym might be upset with me for putting myself in the spotlight like that--she's never been pleased with people who show off, unless it's showing off how much they revere her of course." The thought of Miirym sets his mind to worry once again, and Arthur soon retreats aft to look back for his draconic companion.

As it happened, Miirym had if fact caught up with the ship but a few minutes earlier. She silently soared beneath the ship, staying within its shadow, that she might have more time with her thoughts. Some of Vipera's earlier words grow clearer for her now--she can practically feel the will her companion exerts in his worry, both the same and yet different from what she had sensed from his clash with the champion of Sven. Still, much of the Dragon's wisdom remains unclear, and she suspects it will be some time before she can even begin to understand it all.

It was a welcome feeling to be away from the troubles below. But he hardly felt freed from them. "If the legends are true, then perhaps some of the people in this very empire need to be reminded of their artifact and what it represents. It seems that down there, there is no passion for life or respect for great power..." He gave his wings a little flutter. "U'Voros said that the dragons were content to die off and join the noble races. If they can truly see into the minds and hearts of men, then I wonder if I blame them.... hm...." He placed his hat back on his head and turned to look Guffington in the eye, but his gaze quickly fell to the deck of the ship. "I am sorry, perhaps this is not the time. We have a task ahead of us and I intend to finally complete it."

There seemed to be something that Hybros was hinting at, but he dismissed the conversation and looked over to Purpearl and Lady Felix.

Hoke strokes the small dragon as he listens to the Captain.

"What are you thoughts on this my friend," he whispers to Vipera.

"What they did? From what I can tell, they committed the crime of being born not human. That's it. End of story."

"From what I know from Princess Ella, only those who don the gauntlets can possess the ability to obtain the flame. No bare hands or gauntlets of other make can do the same as these."

<No eyes either,> says Vipera from Hoke's shoulder, not even glancing back at Purpearl, Arthur, Felix, Guffington and Hybros. <You will have to keep them closed if you wish to keep them at all.>

"Hm, yes, I see... thank you for explaining." He looked out at the horizon for a moment, deep in thought. He removed his hat to let the wind blow about his face. It was a welcome feeling to be away from the troubles below. But he hardly felt freed from them. "If the legends are true, then perhaps some of the people in this very empire need to be reminded of their artifact and what it represents. It seems that down there, there is no passion for life or respect for great power..." He gave his wings a little flutter. "U'Voros said that the dragons were content to die off and join the noble races. If they can truly see into the minds and hearts of men, then I wonder if I blame them.... hm...." He placed his hat back on his head and turned to look Guffington in the eye, but his gaze quickly fell to the deck of the ship. "I am sorry, perhaps this is not the time. We have a task ahead of us and I intend to finally complete it."

There seemed to be something that Hybros was hinting at, but he dismissed the conversation and looked over to Purpearl and Lady Felix.

"May I see the gauntlets?"

"Speak your mind fully, Hybros. What do you think we should do with the flame? It is an infinite source. Do you think the people of Dastan should also have it?"

Hybros picks up the gauntlets, and assesses them.

Arthur bows humbly before Retraga, before translating the Dragon's words for the rest of the party. Before he can formulate a response, however, a bright, human-sized shape wreathed in a deep violet smoke swoops up from behind the ship, landing on it with a gleam in her azure eyes. Though Miirym radiates rage and frustration, it is not directed outward, and she does her best to suppress both the smoke and her emotions as she demonstrates a submissive posture before the Elder Dragon.

"<Great Elder,>" she begins in the Dragons' tongue, as humbly as she can manage, "<I cannot speak on behalf of the mortals with us--save, perhaps, for my own personal companion--but I am seeking discovery and self-knowledge. I have yet to uncover my true place in the world, save for knowing that Arthur will be there at my side, and so I have yet to ignite the spark that fuels my own will, that grants me the strength to fully exert it upon the world. I seek to visit the Dragon's Heart Flame, to gaze upon its embers and to see with my own eyes the fire that burns within us all, and perhaps discover its heat within me. The others, too, wish to visit the flame, but as I said, I cannot recall their purpose--my attention as of late has been otherwise diverted.>"

A new dark shape blots out the sky, and a great burst of flame burns above the ship. The heroes look up, and see a smaller but thornier dragon, even older in years, peering down at them.

"Foolish young ones. Flying into the home of dragons." This dragon can growl in the human tongue. He peers down at the heroes with his glinting red eyes.

<Silence, Alatreon. There are heroes of Heroica. You owe them as great a debt as I.>

"My debt was paid. What offerings do they bring to The Brilliant Black Flame? Don't they know respect for their elders?"

<Vipera is right. You and I have no right to molest Heroica.> Retraga sweeps ahead of the heroes. <But think on what you do, sister. Ballerai Firestomach may devour of your pets. Especially if they wish to see our flame.>

The two enormous dragons land at the mouth of a cave, and a few moments later the ship itself settles down. Guffington and Lady Felix step onto the rock.

We would not fare well if we do not thread carefully infront of these Dragons who are more intelligent and powerful than all of us." Turning to Hybros and the party, "It would be most fitting if one of our Dragoons don those Gaunlets for the flame. I believe outsiders, like me, especially without accompanying dragons, will face a harder task doing so in the presence of these majestic creatures."

On touching down, he took in the mountain view. Addressing the elder dragons, "What is this Flamebelly that you speak of? Surely not a dragon even larger than yourselves, hm?"

"I will see to it that it is done, to the best of my abilities. You understand that for the time being, I am in a bit of a rush... but once we arrive at Etheria I can hopefully arrange for an ember to be returned to Drakencourt."

The heroes step into a cave, and soon things are pitch black. The heroes stumble, but the dragons seem to have no trouble navigating their way. Lady Felix curses vehemently as she runs into a stalagmite.

A gravelly voice booms out next to Hybros, and he can feel the heat coming off one of the dragons.

"The Firestomach is larger than me. But that means little to dragons. Though your Eubric breed grows to great sizes, as if they had the need to impress the lesser mortals, the Dastan dragons respect many things more than size. Age, power, flame, cunningness, and never forget our hoards." Alatreon chuckles. "The Firestomach is younger than most dragons, but he is cunning, and he is brave. And he did not get his name from no where."

Vipera comes to rest on Hoke's shoulder.

A gust of wind sails over the heroes heads, and moments later they realize it is the whipping tail of Retraga, down the passageway a little, leading the way.

<No. But I welcome the chance to prove that the Humans and Elves and Selkreeth are just as noble as the races that have passed. We are the ones who grow ignoble.>

<And these are your champions.> Retraga growls sinisterly, a dark amusement. <We shall see, young sister.>

Retraga has no response to this.

After a few more minutes trek, the heroes hear the dragons come to a stop. Retraga and Alatreon, with great rushes of wind, take to the air and land on what must be ledges some distance away. Rocks are displaced and rattle on their way to the floor. Vipera's talons inadvertently dig into Hoke's shoulder as a face peers out at the heroes from the gloom.

An enormous black dragon, with a red belly. No doubt the Firestomach.

<My poor eyes!> cries the dragon, smoke rising from her nostrils. <Must they fail me at such young an age?>

"Whatever do you mean, dear sister?" calls Alatreon from his perch, the laughter clear in his voice.

Bellerai blinks twice, mockingly, and then shakes her great head.

<Sister, you have been degraded by your pets. I do not care what you do out in Olegaia. It is a decaying land. But to bring your toys home - no, surely that will not do.>

Purpearl remains at the back and remains emotionless at the sight of Firestomach. Unless the party decides to prove to Firestomach that they are more than just harmless degrading pets that do nothing other than trample on holy grounds, Purpearl, with her eyes set on the flame, figures it would be best to remain quiet at this moment. She figures any word or statement she utters now would only aggravate Firestomach. It would be best to let the Dragoons build the rapport with Firestomach and the others and perhaps with their nerves calmed down a little, the mystic knight would wait for the opportune moment before starting any conversations with these conservatives.

As they walk down the cavernous corridors, Hybros is reminded of his journeys below Eubric, most importantly his solitary trek to the Temple of Zoot. Much like then, the dank air seemed to hold a certain heavy weight, as if he was treading on ground that was simultaneously holy and forsaken.

He bowed deep before Firestomach, trying his best not to anger the mighty elder dragon. "We come humbly before you, Firestomach. We know to respect the power of dragons and other beings much older than ourselves. I agree that it is bleak out there, but it is not as beyond hope as you might think. Humans, imps and the shorter-lived species may be shortsighted, but we are not all without morals. Perhaps you are not aware of this, for the problems of the outside world are not so apparent here in this cave… eheh…" He kept his head lowered, hoping he did not anger the dragon.

Arthur slowly nods in understanding, a look of curious understanding upon his face. Miirym, too, seems to relax a little, and despite the darkness of the cave and her smoke, she almost seems to grow visibly from the exchange.

<It is not your cave, sister. And these are not the simple beasts that crawled out of mud so many years ago.>

The Firestomach snorts derisively.

OOC: I should only have 11 Meads and 7 Nostrums, and the Love Potion should also be gone from my inventory. Also, it looks like a bunch of images are breaking--Purpearl's and one of the wings on PC, but none of the enemy pics save the main profile pic loaded on mobile.
