"Sven isn't a petty man. He's not doing anything he's doing out of feeling slighted. As for inviting him to the feast - I'm afraid the time for that has passed. At this point it will only serve to weaken the ground the U'Kin have won, I think. As soon as we give concessions. That's not the Dastan way."

"Perhaps you're right. The last time I had my hands in kingdom and alliance building they were covered in blood by the end. I will leave the diplomacy to the diplomats."

With that, Hoke excused himself and joined the feast guests. As he walked over, he removed the Electro Gear and replaced with with the Medal of Glory.

Torc finds that Vipera remains silent, and can sense vaguely that she may be making fun of the larger dragon's constant silence in doing so.

Torc's maw curls up into what could be considered a smirk.

"No? How quickly heroes forget their friends. I think my friend Deborah may have helped you recover your people not to long ago." Natasha smirks. "Pretty much what you described though, yes. All we're looking to do is ensure that U'Daras lives long enough to take that throne - the sooner the better. One of my compatriots has a passion for automaton as well, and he had some notes he wanted to pick up here. And to even add to the appeal of the city, I'm a bit of a history nut. Princess Ella recently recovered a book of old tales of a Princess and Warrior. Think it may have helped finding your people, actually. She donated it to the Dastan Library. I've been flipping through. Add to that the fact that there aren't all that many prophetesses around, and it's nice to meet another. So, our visit to the city is triple pronged."

At that moment Ella and Tarn walk into the room. Tarn stands a little shyly in the doorway, a bashful grin on his face. Ella smiles kindly at him, pats him on the back, and wanders over to Lady Felix.

"Hm, oh yes, the Golden Warden! I did not realize she was with your organization, heheh. Yes, she was a great help down below Eubric. I would be interested in reading this tome myself. There was another ancient book that allowed me to free my people and bring them back to Olegaia. It is a shame that the likes of the Order Imperial would try to destroy such opportunities, eheh."

Hybros shifted his wings, a little nervously. Natasha seemed to know a lot about him, and must have recognized him before he introduced himself.

"The Tritech corporation would be good to ask about auto... ehem, machines. And I think one accompanied Deborah and I to the tunnels. We are going to Xu next, and there is a man there who invented the machines. Perhaps your friend would like to accompany us?"

As he walks by, Hoke hands Hybros the Sword of Tranquility.

"You can put this to better use than I can right now."

Hybros nods and accepts the sword, admiring its sheen before sheathing it.

Hoke smiles as he watches the imp admire the blade.

"I am yet to use it. I need a longer reach when on the back of a dragon, that's why I have been using lance and spear lately."

Hoke looks up, realizing he has butt into an ongoing conversation.

"Hoke Ablesword," he introduces himself, "Nice shield you have there. Mine is but a small dinted thing, yet it gets the job done. Who might you be?"

"From what I have briefly observed that human has certain influence over the protestors. What happens if he calls for it? Does that mean the people of Dastan gets to choose their leader?"

Miirym starts, so intent on listening to the people in front of her that she hadn't heard Purpearl come up behind her. She begins preening herself furiously to hide her embarassment.

"Perhaps you're right. The last time I had my hands in kingdom and alliance building they were covered in blood by the end. I will leave the diplomacy to the diplomats."

Arthur happens to notice Hoke swapping his Artifacts around. "Actually, Hoke...would you terribly mind me borrowing that Medal of Glory for a battle? After delivering Hybros' medal to him, I have to admit I'm a bit curious as to what it's like to wear one."

Hoke gives Arthur a peculiar look, shrugs, and hands over the Medal of Glory. He reattaches the Electro Gear to his armor.

"Thanks, Hoke. I'll have this back to you soon." Arthur stows his Tin Gloves in his pack, equipping the Medal of Glory in their place.

Arthur raises his hands and bows slightly in apology, doing his best to speak diplomatically. "Forgive me, then, your highness. I am speaking of things I do not yet comprehend. Perhaps in time, I will come to do so. Hel, if the Wolfgang get their way, Eubric will come to be under a king's rule...and the oppressed in the city seem to be on the Wolfgang's side. Perhaps as that threatens to come to pass, I will better understand the plight of the Dastanian people." Sensing that it would be best to give the Emperor some space after the Dragoon's blunder, Arthur drifts over to Natasha just in time for Tarn and Ella to enter. Arthur waves Tarn over.

"Tarn!" he calls loudly, just as he had the last time they'd met. "It's good to see you again. How have you been since we helped the Princess retrieve that storybook from beneath the sea?"

8686823074_56e2890363_t.jpg

"I have been quite well!" Tarn exclaims as he walks swiftly over to Arthur and Hybros and everyone, hesitating for a moment before giving them all very quick brotherly hugs. "My life now does not allow me nearly as much opportunity for travel, but more time for thinking and reading. I had never really read before, in excess... I had never had the time for it." He smiles warmly. "But surely you have great tales to tell me."

"<Right of the People?>" Miirym quietly asks Vipera, not wanting to disturb the others' discussion.

"From what I have briefly observed that human has certain influence over the protestors. What happens if he calls for it? Does that mean the people of Dastan gets to choose their leader?"

DSCN0047.jpg

"Not exactly. The Right of the People is a ancient and barbaric right. In the old days, anyone could challenge an Emperor to trial by combat. Both the challenger and the Emperor choose a champion, and whoever wins... it hasn't been used in years. It was uncommon even when it was a more realized practice - the Emperor has an entire nation to choose from, and of course the challenger must convince someone to possibly die for them. But with the support that Sven is gathering... it isn't impossible."

"I'll have to ask him, but I feel our place at the moment is in Dastan. Xu already had it's revolution. As for the Minoid, he's around the Palace somewhere. You'll find him."

Hoke smiles as he watches the imp admire the blade.

"My name is Natasha. As I was telling your friend, I'm from Vartland. Everyone is a warrior there. Who might you be?"

Watching Hoke's dragon, Torc, breathing smoke at Vipera and Arthur's Miirym. "Sometimes, I wonder how is it like to be communicating with dragons, telepathy? or mutual understanding?"

"Sounds very much like The Trial of the Three Circles that the orcs invoke to challenge leadership. Fortunately or unfortunately I was on the side of the challenger. And from the manner Sven commands the crowd, I suppose the Emperor has already found his champion? As a precaution?"

<It is a little bit of both.>

As Purpearl mingles into the crowd in the Hall, she was pleasantly surprised that the dragon could communicate with her, more so insert thoughts into her mind. Purpearl knows no dragon tongue but attempts to communicate with Vipera. Looking at Vipera, " Vipera, a free soul are you not?"

"Many ancient rights in many civilizations seem to have cross over. It is not uncommon. In the Prophetess and the Warrior the duo often speculates that the ancient world may have all sprung up from one place. They observed, as we do now, many connections between civilizations that appeared to have no knowledge of each other, or at the very least very limited knowledge of each other."

Vipera replies to Purpearl within her mind OoC: Check your PMs.

OoC: In the picture of the party she isn't carrying a shield - she's not a barbarian like the heroes, always armed to the teeth even in social settings. He did already give his name though, I see...

IMG_2508_zpsyyy4pxng.jpg

"I find courts a bit of a bore myself, sometimes. I usually send my Ambassador, Heweyrt, to deal with purely social calls, but it's looking more and more like Dastan is going to take some muscle as well. You don't carry yourself too poorly, though," she says, sizing him up.

IMG_2508_zpsyyy4pxng.jpg

"Sure did. Haven't been home in a while though, mostly a world traveller at this point, not unlike your crowd. Like I said, Dastan is a nice stop for me. Ella and I both being prophetesses and what not... you don't meet too many of them. Hard to communicate with people who aren't more cued into the bigger picture sometimes."

"I never would have thought that I would hear rumors of you being in the high courts of faraway kingdoms. But I suppose it must be fitting for someone as noble as you, heh!"

He looked around the room before returning his gaze to Tarn. "I have been on many quests, but most importantly I think, I have found my people and returned them to Olegaia where they belong. It is a long story, but I did it with the help of the Ji Pei and the Tritech, Guffington and Daneeka, and this Golden Crusade that Natasha here leads."

Hoke mentally pauses, careful to watch his words. He quickly decides to move on to another subject.

"So you're here as muscle huh? I guess my companions and I are as well, yet we were unaware of this situation when we signed up. As fas as handling myself, I guess I would say I can take a hit and deal out the same. More enemies have fallen at my feet than I at theirs. If you'd like to witness my companions and I in battle, feel free to join us," he says with a wink.

If you know about the revolution in Xu, then you've probably heard of my part in it as well. I heard you mention Minoid--would that be the original, or one of his "brothers" Mr. Cour produced later?" Arthur looks over to Tarn. "I guess that's a story I can share--the story of how a simple mining automaton came to achieve true sentience along the course of our journey six thousand feet beneath the surface of Olegaia. Mr. Cobb hired us to deal with a mysterious four-story tall giant that had appeared out of nowhere and began terrorizing his miners. Erdy, Grimwald, and I found Minoid, heavily damaged, and helped him repair himself, and together we began to rescue the miners and clear out the Oculoids that had infested the place. Eventually, we found the lair of the madman who had created the giant, which turned out to be another sentient automaton that had been enslaved and abandoned for many, many years. His master forced us to battle the giant, but in the end it was at least able to die free. It was then that Minoid came to understand the nature of humanity, and discovered it within himself. I do hope Minoid's doing well--after everything we dealt with in that mine, he certainly deserves it."

OOC: Miirym post later.

Many crusaders, I fear, think only to defeat the evil while neglecting to allow the good space and ability to flourish. But our's is a mission of hope, not destruction."

"That is joyous news!" exclaims Tarn. "I had hoped for that, though I didn't dare dream it would be a day so soon. What are they like?" Tarn blushes a little at the mention of his high status. "From a poor peasant orphan to this-" he gestures around the Dining Hall, speechless.

"Heweyrt,"Hoke scoffs,,"He AND his companion..."

"I believe my place is here in Dastan, but I believe blows here will come shortly, especially with your display today. Your massacre today. And when that time, you will have my blade. Don't even need my gift to tell that." She exhales. "If you'd like to spar a little this evening, though, I'm sure we can find a space. I admit I've never seen a Dragoon in combat. It's a good thing that dragons are coming back to play in this world a little, I'd love to see it in action."

"That is a part of being a hero I remember well. The stories in the Hall." Tarn chuckles wistfully. "Life of royalty does not afford me the same stories. Though I have discovered it does provide a similar river of free drinks and food."

Arthur signals for Miirym to join him and Tarn. "Tarn, I want you to meet Miirym, my Dragon companion. Miirym, this is Tarn, an old friend of mine from before you were born. He and I went on a few Quests together back when we were both Heroes."

Miirym nods respectfully, but does not speak, apparently tired from her earlier exertions.

Tarn bows to the little dragon, and she can feel warmth radiating from him - no words need be expressed. It seems that in his time in Dastan Tarn has grown better at the unspoken language of dragons.

Hoke sits down at the table and looks at the food and drink available. He motions for his companions to join him.

Though an impressive spread, the food and drink look unlikely to buff the heroes in anyway. There's no doubt, however, that they'll feel healthy and hearty tomorrow.

"Interesting. Are there any theories as to how these civilisations spread all over Olegaia without them knowing about one another?"

"Many," says Mallelio with a shy grin. "But much of early history is lost to us. There are many great beasts it would be interesting to track down and ask such things. The dragons must have a guess, and I hear talk of their ancestors, the Elder Dragons, who may know such things. My own chance to discover such mysteries came and went before twice I even thought of it. When Princess Ella was born, three great witches visited us, strange and old creatures. They may have had the answers to some of our questions, but I have never seen them since. And again when we fought Wren, we came into contact with beings called the Old Gods. But there was too much to be done, and one was slain, and the other disappeared."

IMG_2508_zpsyyy4pxng.jpg

"Your chance at Vartland may come sooner than you think. I see visions of many converging there soon, and as always, heroes look likely to be involved." Natasha smiles. "It's nice to meet someone else with a bit of sense. Happens a lot in the longer living races - elves get it a bit more than most humans do, in my experience."

Hoke sits down and enjoys the food but careful not to enjoy himself too much.

Miirym perks her head up at Mallelio's mention of the Elder Dragons, her eagerness to hear more of them non-verbal but apparent. Arthur, meanwhile, seems to shrink at the mention of the Old Gods, becoming unnaturally quiet as he sinks into his memories.
