Big Sal Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) Location: D03 Tags: Science, Civil. Tough week, friend? Tough month more like. I’ve been taken prisoner, tortured, given an impossible assignment, and nearly frozen to death. I’m gonna need a beer. Coming right up. Good. My research hasn’t exactly been going well recently either. Here’s your beer. You’re a scientist then? I had you figured for a pilot with that jumpsuit you’re wearing. Yeah, I used to be a pilot, once upon a time. It’s a long story… My competition entries will be Big Sal telling the bartender all about his past. I’ll post links to them here once they’re up. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 That was a long story. Here, have this one on the house. It’s this week’s experimental cocktail. Experimental? Yeah, each week I invent a new cocktail and- But you call them ‘experimental’? And people drink them? Yes, but- I’ll be right back! And just a little bit of these… I’m still not sure about this, it seems a bit- Trust me, I’m a scientist! Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Date: 25 Julali 3815. Experiment Code: B9D03. Lead Scientist: Big Sal. Location: MANTIS Supply Ship, Bar 9: ‘The Red Spider’. Terrial Major orbit. Aim: Test the effects of alcohol as an enhancement delivery medium. Excerpt ends. Here you are friends, experimental cocktails on the house. Enjoy… Now, I just want to emphasise that this cocktail is experimental and by drinking it you agree to waive all rights in the case of sickness, injury or death. Drink up! Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Method: Awesomnium enhanced larvae and awesomnium serum will be mixed with alcohol and consumed by willing volunteers. Prediction: Volunteers will gain enhanced physical abilities. Excerpt ends. And now we wait… Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Results: Volunteers became extremely aggressive on drinking the cocktail and showed reduced cognitive abilities along with changes in eye colouration. Conclusions: This line of research may be worth pursuing in more controlled conditions. Excerpt ends. Thanks for reading! C&C welcome! Edited October 25, 2015 by Big Sal Quote
Tomsche Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Love the details and the pool table, another great build and story. You`re probably the only bugboy I won`t turn my mining laser on ;-) Quote
Jody Meyer Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Oh I so love your experiments, your builds are always a pleasure to see. Quote
Lady K Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 The best one yet! I love the story and the build, so many details. The video games and pool table are very well done and the bar is superb! The reactions to the experiment are great, and definitely worth more study....... Quote
Ferdinando Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 This build deserves the most sincere, experimental compliments ever! Quote
LittleJohn Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Stunning build yet again, Sal! The pool table, video games, and story are all excellent! Quote
shmails Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Such a great story told with a wonderful sense of humor! I love your entries every week. Well done Sal! Quote
FonsoSac Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I like the last shot with Big Sal and the waiter hidden behind the counter  Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Another great one Sal! I love your humorous builds! They bring a smile to my face each week as I watch big Sal's hilarious antics that flagrantly mock scientists in a way that only a true scientist would be able to pull off! a more controlled environment is definitely in need, for Sal. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Mike S Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 What can I say? Another amazing build and addition to the story of Big Sal's misadventures! Quote
Commander Turtle Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Funny once again, Sal. Excellent pool table and all that. I do have one critique though! It uses the same standard lab style of yours, right down to the door with experiment number. This would have been a great opportunity to flex those building muscles, could have used a new colour or at least given it a non-lab door The bar area where you've deviated from the lab style is a really nice part of the build Quote
Big Sal Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) Thanks everyone! I do have one critique though! It uses the same standard lab style of yours, right down to the door with experiment number. This would have been a great opportunity to flex those building muscles, could have used a new colour or at least given it a non-lab door The bar area where you've deviated from the lab style is a really nice part of the build Thanks for the feedback! It's not so much a lab style as a M.A.N.T.I.S. style - that's just how M.A.N.T.I.S. builds all its doors, or my version of M.A.N.T.I.S. anyway I like to keep my little part of this universe internally consistent when I can - eventually I may start losing points for reusing things like the doors and the aircon and the small lab equipment over and over, but the consistency is much more important to me Plus, that style of door is a good way to fit a nice bit of olive green in, which is difficult otherwise with my limited parts in that colour Edited July 25, 2015 by Big Sal Quote
Commander Turtle Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Do you reuse the walls or do you build it up again each week? Quote
Big Sal Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) I rebuild the walls and floor from scratch every time EDIT: I should have said that I wasn't meaning to criticise your criticism - you made a perfectly good point that would improve my builds. It's just that I'm going to ignore it and I wanted to explain that it isn't because I don't value your advice. Hope that makes sense Edited July 25, 2015 by Big Sal Quote
David FNJ Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I really like that pool table and those videogames! Retro still rules sometimes eh? Excellent interior build, and hilarious story once again! Your post is definitely one to look forward to from week to week :) Quote
Andrew JN Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 The story is so funny! One day Sal will get it right! Nice arcade game machines! Quote
rodiziorobs Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Everything from the arcade to the details behind the bar are so good, but I love how you've used the kissing face as a getting-knocked-out face instead! This week ranks right up there with the original experimental larvae week! Quote
robuko Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Excellent build, very nice way to expand the genre and some nice subtle fun being poked here. The minifig posing and detailing are exceptional, a very nice build. Quote
Zepher Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Wow, great build! Love the details in the bar. And the story is, as always, pretty hilarious. Quote
mccoyed Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I'm starting to take your exemplary interior scenes for granted, Sal. Quote
Blackhawk STX Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Great story! And a phenomenal build as well! Too much fun!! Quote
pombe Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Another great scene and hilarious story from the book of Big Sal!!! Your builds are so clean and well done, but it's all those little details that make them stand out awesome! The pool table, the arcade games...the BAR!!! Quote
Garmadon Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Another fantastic build and story Big Sal, the bar is superb and the pool table is awesome! The glass design, though a small detail here, is excellent, and you got to love Big Sal and the bartender hiding behind the bar in the last picture! Quote
