The Legonater Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I shift to target C. Edited September 22, 2015 by The Legonater Quote
StickFig Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I'm back. What'd I miss? Matthias v. Crew C - Aim/Critical Hit (Confused v. David - 134 Damage David, Matthias and Guts, All KO'd) OoC: Awesome call. I'm still going to dock Dyric that Phoenix Essence, because technically he had to use it... but not... hm. I don't know. I could see the argument either way. What do you guys think? I'm leaving it be for now. I'm going to say give it back, since there is no possible way Matthias (using an elemental weapon) could have taken out Guts (who is immune to all elements). Guts should never have been down in the first place, which means Dyric wouldn't have used the Essence. Matthias attacks the Marauders from the back row, twice. The strange deja vu and accompanying pounding at his temples finally fading, Matthias grins his battle grin and attacks the Marauders twice. Quote
Zepher Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 OoC: I never added up subtracting it in the first place. Guts, I will still consider your Beholder's Eye used up, as it did raise David and re-roll the round, and none of us caught my error. I will make it up to you, though! Pinky promise. When you get to Etheria, consider it re-activated. I will write flavor text for it then. I hope that seems a fair dealing. Scubacarrot Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Nope, it's absolutely fine, I did notice the error, but the effects we got on us were enough to make the use of the Eye totally necessary for it, I think. He wipes off some ice that found itself on the Druid's hat in the battle, and steps back and smiles at the short man. "Excellent work, I knew that cannon of yours would be invaluable." Guts shrugged at Dyric. "Maneuvers are usually named aren't they? Besides, we were the first to do it." "Now, am I correct that the Cabin's Boy outfit would be perfect for you, Dyric? Or are you not going to wear it? The one that doesn't get it gets the Opal and I'm thinking you split the gold. It's up to you two, now let's see what we came here for." Quote
The Legonater Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 If Matthias wants the outfit it's his, I'm not sure I have the room to spare. Now, let's find out what these skeletons were guarding. Quote
StickFig Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 If Matthias wants the outfit it's his, I'm not sure I have the room to spare. Matthias holds the rags up to his face and peeks at Dyric and Guts through one of the many holes. Tossing them back in the pile and picking up the Opal instead, Matthias says to the others, "That doesn't look like it would soften a butterfly kiss, much less slow down arrows or cannonballs. In any case, I've been looking for an opal for a while and Master Dyric took the last one." Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 "Very well." Loot: Dyric: Cabin Boy Rags, 60 gold Matthias: Opal, 60 gold. Quote

Placing it on the floor he examines it closely. The heroes gather round. Prince David coughs pitifully. "I have failed you," he tells the heroes, hanging his head. "I had thought my studies were impeccable, but histories, I have found, are never complete." He holds up the map, so that all the heroes can see it's torn side. "This is but half a map. It has a compass and a number of landmarks by which to orient oneself... but without an x it is completely useless. At the very least we know no one else has discovered your fountain. The other half of the map is unlikely to contain a compass, so it would too be useless on it's on." He passes the map to Guts. "You may as well hold onto it. We came this far way. It is growing dark. We ought to make camp within the ship, where the wind will not tear at us, for the night. Tomorrow we may begin the return journey. I apologize for my folly." Prince David stalks off to a far side of the ship and begins to unroll his bedroll. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) "That's clearly a big red X right there." Guts questions. "Where would the other half be, if this is indeed the ship of that captain. I mean, we haven't the found the guy himself, so wouldn't he hang onto his invaluable map?" "This ship had cannons?" Guts wonders. "How old exactly is this vessel supposed to be?" Edited September 26, 2015 by Scubacarrot Quote
The Legonater Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 How big is the map? If we know we have half of it we can probably find where these landmarks are and then scout the area on the other half of the map. What is that, a crescent canyon? Should be pretty recognizable. Quote
StickFig Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 "That's clearly a big red X right there." "This ship had cannons?" Guts wonders. "How old exactly is this vessel supposed to be?" "Perhaps Doctor Daneeka will have some knowledge to apply to the map by the time we get back," Matthias says, hopeful as he continues to poke around the wreck for anything useful. The gnome halfheartedly unrolls his sleeping mat, in need of rest but still slightly on edge about necromancers. Quote
Zepher Posted September 27, 2015 Author Posted September 27, 2015 OoC: . But, in fairness to the cannon, when the hell were cannon's introduced to Olegaia? If they already have automatons... "That's clearly a big red X right there." Guts questions. "Where would the other half be, if this is indeed the ship of that captain. I mean, we haven't the found the guy himself, so wouldn't he hang onto his invaluable map?" "This ship had cannons?" Guts wonders. "How old exactly is this vessel supposed to be?" David scratches the back of his head. "No, that's just a mistake the mapmaker made. See, look here." David holds it up so that it's a little closer to the heroes, and the heroes can see an explanation next to the "X" in an ancient language... clearly denoting the map maker had screwed up but didn't feel like starting all back over. "As for the location of the second half of the map, I cannot say. Perhaps with the ship's captain, perhaps with a different skeleton crew, perhaps lost to time. This alone was a stretch. I can pour over my books, but it seems unlikely I will find anything else, nor would I be able to find it swiftly." How big is the map? If we know we have half of it we can probably find where these landmarks are and then scout the area on the other half of the map. What is that, a crescent canyon? Should be pretty recognizable. "I suppose that is what you must do, but I advise you do everything in your power to contextualize this map. The Wasteland is vast and filled with mirages. It looks the same in every direction." Matthias does indeed find something useful: a journal. It is written in an older Nordic language, so he hands it to David. He struggle through it. "This isn't a tongue I know well," he admits, scanning the passages. "It appears to be written by the Cabin Boy... here he describes their departure from Vartland... it seems they already have the map, or at least Captain Iceborn knows where it is, I can't tell which... and now a bad storm... and the Captain disappears in the night. And the First Mate is promoted... they do have the map now... he chooses to look at it... yes, here, they also only have half the map." He glances up from the book. "So either the Captain did take it, or didn't have the other half to begin with." He returns to the book. "Then a few more entries as they debate what to do... a storm brewing... and that's the final entry. I'd like to hold onto this, if you don't mind, Matthias." The heroes go to sleep, and the following day they set out to return to Carn, leaving the frozen boat behind. Traveling along the coast once more they make good time, no longer having to be so attentive now that they no longer need to keep their eyes peeled for the ship. After a few short days they see Carn in the distanc As they walk: "I would like to thank you for going with me on this voyage. I apologize it was a waste of your time, but it was good for me to travel a little. Surely it will appease my father. And I hope you are at least better equipped to find the Fount, if not fully equipped." Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 While travelling, Guts tries to print the map in his mind, so he knows what landmarks the mark specifies. "Speaking of being equipped, I hope we find a decent store soon, perhaps in Baltarok... And David, would you mind giving me my phoenix essences and the orb back? Who knows, we might run into this Captain at the fountain, and if he's anything like his crew, he's going to be a tough son of a bitch... Anyways, enough rambling. For what it's worth, I wish you and your father good fortune ruling over your land. Thank your father for me, for his hospitality, and supplying this expedition. We may not exactly have gotten what we wanted, but it happens. The gods can be generous and fickle both." The Marauder tilted his head, then suggested to David. "Hey... You don't suppose the fountain turns people undead don't you? If they found it, and drank from it, it would explain why they were far too lively for my tastes for being dead a whole while." Cannons are Bonaparte exclusive tech aren't they? That's why they have superiority over sea. Quote
