Scubacarrot Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Guts compares the Were-bat's map with the half-map from Captain Iceborn. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 So, Daneeka. I've heard many tales about you but have never had the chance to meet you in person. I suppose in the rush of adventure I haven't had the chance to say what an honour it is to finally meet you in person. Quote
StickFig Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Not anxious to spend a lot of time walking aimlessly in the desert, Matthias hesitates a minute, hoping Holla will be able to glean some information from the two maps, before following Daneeka. Pretty sure I'm going to be out for about 48 hours - ScubaCarrot has control if needed for battle. Quote
Zepher Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 "It is indeed a pleasure," says Daneeka. "Though I feel that traveling is as good a way as any to know anyone. I've never been one who is much for words. Gerald, Elba, and U'Or have all proven themselves fast friends, as have Guts and Hybros. You have known nearly every man and orc we have run into. It proves you keep good company." Guts attempts to compare the two maps, but they have utterly different landmarks on them. Confused, he turns around to look at the direction they came from. And he looks forward again... Quote
The Legonater Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 That's... not pleasant. I use my tracking skills to see if I can pick up any sort of trail. Quote
Zepher Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Dyric tries to pick up on a trail, but sand is blowing across the cracked landscape so swiftly that there is nothing to track. Guts, meanwhile, digs, and is rewarded with a singular ominous bone. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I look down at my compass, seeing where it points. I look down at my compass, seeing where it points. Quote
Zepher Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Dyric's compass spins wildly. Perhaps he should ask it to point to something specific. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Can it be that simple? Point me towards the Fountain of Youth. Quote
Zepher Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 It is not that simple, sadly. Dyric's compass points this way, and that way, and then starts pointing quickly in every which way, spinning. Quote
The Legonater Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Well here's a dumb idea... Take me to Marga. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 "You're talking to compasses now? Try locating the source." Quote
The Legonater Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I'm not following the semantics. Would the 'source' not be the fountain? Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 "Perhaps not if the water flows under us... Worth a shot?" Quote
The Legonater Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I suppose. Take me to the source of the magic water. Quote
Zepher Posted October 23, 2015 Author Posted October 23, 2015 Looking for Marga, the compass does quiver in a specific direction... but only for a few seconds, before spinning wildly and landing on a different position. It quivers there fore a few seconds, before spinning again, and returning to the first. A third time it quivers, and then spins wildly until picking a third direction. Asking after the source of the fountain once more, the compass becomes a propeller, spinning too swiftly to really make out. "Are we assuming that no other treasure hunters had a compass?" asks Daneeka wryly. "Surely they were as well equipped as us. The only advantage we have over them is our half a map." Quote
The Legonater Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I don't see you coming up with ideas. If you have any, please, fire away. Three directions... that Soul Sucker was supposed to have two advisers right? Is Marga... no, I'm probably reading too much into this. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Guts gets out his own compass and wills it to point towards the area where the map is. Quote
StickFig Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 "Are we assuming that no other treasure hunters had a compass?" Guts gets out his own compass and wills it to point towards the area where the map is. "How can there be so many magic compasses?" Matthias looks from Daneeka to Rone to Holla and pulls out his own compass, such hope he'd had, and on a whim flips it over. "Awwww, really?" On the underside are inscribed the tiny words, Gnoriental Trading Company. He suddenly remembers the angry little man's stall in the marketplace, a pile of the compasses on display. "These things are made by orphans in Dastan or Xu or something - and they're not even gnomes!" On a whim, though, as he looks around at the barren desert and says quietly, "Compass, where is the outpost we came from?" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 "These things are made by orphans in Dastan or Xu or something - and they're not even gnomes!" "It's true, but you got to be careful, the other week, someone tried to sell me a fake. It didn't even work right, it only pointed north. How useless is that?" Quote
The Legonater Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Shoot, you guys have one too? I thought this would be some rare item nobody else had, like an axe or a telescope. I mean when's the last time you ever saw one of those used? Quote
Zepher Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Matthias' compass points in one direction, and stays there. Guts, meanwhile, asks his compass where the map is. It twitches, and before quickly pointing to the Iceborn's half map in his hand, it spins and points off in a very different direction than Matthias'. "There's a start." Quote
