The Legonater Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Zane isn't going to kill us. He's not entirely unreasonable. He wanted the Anvil, but I convinced him otherwise. For now he's still fully in control of his body, and as long as that remains the case we're fine. I'm not saying I trust him, but we're all on the same side right now. If we want to kill him, we'll do it at the Fountain, not before. Quote
Zepher Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 "Matthias' plan holds merit. It requires some work, and some backtracking, and the assumption we can make it out of the Wastelands, but given that it shouldn't prove too difficult. It appears that both you and Guts have good relations with the Orcs." Daneeka turns to Guts. "The only complication is that we are on a tight schedule. What do you think? How swiftly can you convince the Orcs to go to battle?" Quote
The Legonater Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 To battle!? I acknowledge working with Zane is crazy - I really do - but this is a whole new level. We're not starting open war in the Wastelands. Quote
StickFig Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) "Gotta be honest, here, Doctor Daneeka, I'm less worried about any timetable than I am about not becoming a madman's inner monologue. It's not like the fate of thousands of innocents rest on our shoulders here - we're trying to find some gifts for a diplomatic mission. If there's any hope of gaining some reinforcements, I'm for that." As Rone reacts with distress to Daneeka's words, Matthias adds, "It's not open war, Master Dyric; it's being on the safe side in a brawl against 4 enemies - a fight even you admit we'll probably end up having eventually, possibly after Zane is even more powerful than we've already seen. If you ask me, Zane is evil - that soul sucking bit just isn't right - and a danger to this whole region, especially if we find him some immortality juice." Edited November 12, 2015 by StickFig Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The marauder is silent for a while, then asks earnestly "Dyric. I wouldn't ask this, but... Are you... Sure these words are your own? You know I will not give up my weapons. I understand you've met the man before, but your account of him does not stroke with what we see here. Matthias plan is solid. We come back with a force that can deal with the madman. I believe we've got the time." Quote
The Legonater Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The marauder is silent for a while, then asks earnestly "Dyric. I wouldn't ask this, but... Are you... Sure these words are your own? What !? I- I catch myself, seeing the surprising concern on Guts' face and the terror in Matthias'. I take a step back, collecting myself. I'm fine. Call the army if you think it's necessary, I understand. Solemnly, I follow whatever Guts has planned. Quote
Zepher Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 "Lead us out of here, Guts." Where Dyric had left Zane, a sandstorm starts to pick up. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 "Oh by Mercutio's balls." Guts grabs the map they bought at the outpost and uses it to determine the best way forward. Quote
Zepher Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Without any landmarks, the map is useless. It occurs to the heroes that the were-bat herself had gotten lost so maybe her map wasn't the best thing to base decisions off of. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Guts looks where the sun is. Then reminds himself what time of day it is. Quote
Zepher Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 OoC: That, I'd say, is a pretty sensible solution. Guts looks up at the sky. The sun hangs to the hero's right, Zane's left, and the heroes could imagine that it's about the afternoon or early evening. The sun would probably sink behind the horizon before they can make it out of the Wasteland, but they'd have a good head start. The sandstorm picks up a little more. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 The party goes straight east until they find landmarks. Quote
Zepher Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 The heroes start marching east, but the sandstorm follows them and soon begins to envelop them. As they get their eyes clogged with sand they begin to feel a rumbling under their feet. "Enough foolishness, Dyric. We go to that Fountain together, or I go alone!" growls Zane from somewhere behind them, but close. In the far distance, barely a speck on the horizon, the heroes can make out past the edges of the storm an outpost with a single tavern. Quote
StickFig Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Matthias redoubles his speed, carrying the Anvil as fast as his little legs will go towards the tavern. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Guts turns around, drawing his weapons, and taking out several bombs, peering into the storm to catch a glimpse of Zane. He refreshes his usual buffs. Quote
The Legonater Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 We can't win this! We should keep moving! Quote
StickFig Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Matthias' legs keep pumping, though the gnome is beginning to wonder what will actually happen once they reach the tavern. Will Zane simply follow and fight them then? Quote
Zepher Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Below the heroes, the ground trembles. They hear sudden cries from the Court, not too far off. "To the air, Solimon! Parvati, Medusa-" "I do not fear-" "Enough with your foolishness. If you wish to die, fine! Parvati, to me! We're going." "I cannot leave my- The earth trembles. "My word-" A second wyrm erupts from the earth and swallows Doc Daneeka whole. Before the heroes can react, a third one writhes out of the desert, Medusa balancing on it carefully, her spear wedged into one of the plates. "Give me back my sister!" she bellows, and the wyrm, ignoring her, swallows Matthias in one quick movement. There is no time. A great tail sweeps upwards and catches Guts unaware, flinging him through the air, as the sandstorm grows and Dyric grows unable to see. Suddenly a strong set of hands grab him, and drag him away. Around him he can hear the rustling of bones snapping. OoC: PMs! Quote
Zepher Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 Matthias turns to see Solimon land beside him. "Parvati. You're alive." "Just barely." She smiles wanly. "I wasn't worried about you. Not with Zane." Her shy smile continues as she stares at Zane. "Thank you for coming to save me, captain." "It's got nothing to do with you. Dyric promised if I helped him save the Doctor, I go to the Fountain." He shrugs callously. "Is that the wyrm that's got him?" "Yes." "Then let's gut it." Zane turns to Dyric. "When baldy gets here, that half of the map. Don't forget. Or I'll feed my half of the map to a wyrm and neither party will be going anywhere."
