StickFig Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) Matthias' bewilderment at the guard's reaction to "Lady Talligard" evaporates as they enter the hall. What was it Daneeka called her again? he wonders, but can't remember. The strange features of the lady's face leave the gnome staring uncomfortably as he waits for the Doctor's reply. The Legonater Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 i brace slightly as McColt arranges a meeting with the king. Already I believed I recognized the voice of the guard, there'd surely be familiar faces in the court. The walk away from the gate comes as a relief. Hopefully McColt will deal with all those politics himself. The streets of Duplovia hit me with a wash of memory. A nostalgic smile is firmly set by the time we reach our destination. I say little to the woman, only nodding curtly as I lose myself in recollections of the past. Quote
Zepher Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 OoC: It appears I never took an icon picture for Talligard. "A near silent party you have brought to us, Daneeka." Talligard stares down the heroes... it seems. The purple on her face twists and contracts something crazy, but never to any sort of facial expression the heroes can recognize. Daneeka bows slightly. "Yes. Sometimes they allow me to do the talking. It is a strange trait for heroes, but keeps us out of trouble." "Very well. We know why you are here - the U'kin sent word, so we suppose the time for pleasantries will be later. Come. Let us show you where you are to go." Lady Talligard walks towards the heroes, and pulls out an old piece of parchment. "When the giants who ruled this city still lived in it, they jealously guarded in an underground cathedral their gift - the anvil. The giants have since left this land, save for a few stragglers, but their guardians may remain. Even older than the giants, these guardians are just as tall, dangerous ancient golems with only the drive to kill. We warn you to be careful." She hands the parchment to Guts, correctly I.D.ing him as the head of the party. "This is a map to the anvil. We wish you luck, heroes. Please return once you've recovered it. We would like to give you a gift to deliver to Gerald from us. Do you have any questions?" Talligard shifts her gaze between the three heroes and the frog. Quote
StickFig Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Matthias continues staring, but in rapt attention to the Lady's words. Orrik's Anvil, he thinks, barely breathing. What a wonder this will be. Turning to his fellows, then to Daneeka, and finally back to Talligard, he finds his tiny bass voice. "Master Dyric, do you know of a place here where we can refit and prepare to fight these guardians? Doctor Daneeka, when can we start? Lady Talligard, the guards said they might be coming to check on us. Is there some sort of pass or mark you might give us to walk freely through the city?" The gnome barely realizes how rapid-fire he's spitting his questions. Quote
Zepher Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 "Our race is many, but also one. It is difficult for your type to understand. Many assume we are one mind, but that is not the case. The easiest way to explain it, we are told, is to say we have one sub-conscious... we share our dreams, and many of our memories, but it is not difficult for us to tell ourselves from ourselves. We know, for example, the hero Dyric though he has never met Talligard. He met another of us, many years ago, one who fell in combat." "As for your questions, gnome. We do not know where you can refit, but to our eyes you look well equipped. You may travel through the city on our word alone. We can vouch for any friend of Gerald's." "We should start as soon as possible. Once McColt and the guards join us." Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 "Thank you, Lady Talligard. We'll see you soon." Guts looks at the map, and says to the other heroes: "Golems huh, should be easy enough." "We'll have time to restock after we get the Anvil. Our detour got us off schedule, and I would see that fixed." Quote
StickFig Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Matthias nods to Daneeka, and nods again to Holla, not entirely sharing the latter's view of "dangerous ancient golems with only the drive to kill". He fiddles idly with the Peashooter's firing mechanism, clicking the striker plate back and forth, as they wait for whatever is next. "I suppose we just wait for McColt, then?" Quote

We know, for example, the hero Dyric though he has never met Talligard. He met another of us, many years ago, one who fell in combat." I didn't realize this about your race, though I suppose in hindsight it makes sense. It would please you then to learn - if you haven't already - that the Dark Lady who we fought against has been defeated. More than that, I myself beheaded the scum that killed Triad. I would love to walk the streets once more, but we should probably get to work swiftly. I'd hate to overstay my welcome a second time. Quote
Zepher Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 Lady Talligard bows at Dyric's news. "We imagined as much. Triad did not die in vain then. We understood the risks, and we chose our path. Know that we fought until our final moment, and if you see Atramor, tell him we do not blame him. If the battle was won, the cost was what it was." There is a knock at the door. Daneeka goes to answer it, and two figures step into the Hall. "I've got a meeting with the King tomorrow. So we'll have to go get this thing tonight." McColt glances at the figure who accompanies him. "This is the man sent to check on us. Says he'd like to give us a hand... apparently he's fond of heroes, but still looking to run into a particular one." "Where are we headed?" asks the figure, staring at Dyric intently. "Guts can lead the way." As Eyric and Dyric fall into step with each other, Guts, Matthias, McColt, Pylon and Daneeka walk towards a mountain at the edge of the city. There is a great gaping hole there... and darkness within. Enormous pillars are built onto either side of a Hall so tall the ceiling is near impossible to see. The heroes can only imagine what once walked these Halls. OoC: Legonator, I'd like to give you license to decide how Eyric reacts to Dyric - I've read over his character and am not totally sure, though they seem to be on good terms. But I think you deserve to write it out, and then I'll take my cue from there and hop into his shoes. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Electing to stay out of the talk of long dead people who he had not met, Guts takes a Smelling Salts and a Nostrum. "Getting here was easy enough, at least... How do the locals deal with this place?" The Marauder ponders for a moment, then asks: "Are the Duplovians really going to let us take this thing, just like that? I'd just like to be prepared in case it turns out we're pilfering an invaluable cultural artifact or something like that." Quote
StickFig Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Noticing Guts down a few consumables, Matthias decides it's a pretty good idea and looks through his pockets. He's surprised to find potions, elixirs, and venoms of various sorts, but dismayed that he can only turn out one Nostrum and two Meads. Drinking 1 Mead, he tucks the rest back away and looks around cautiously, wondering if slithery serpentine stooges might be lurking in the dark along with the ancient golems. Shivering slightly, the gnome pulls out a Venom again and dumps it down the Extraordinaire's barrel. "Do you think the Lady would have sent us here if that was going to be a problem?" he asks in response to Guts' query, but his eyes are still fixed ahead into the gloom. "Do either of you sense anything I can't?" he asks the animals. Also, just noticed the Staff of Ennon and Noble Mask still in Matth's inventory - he gave them to Hybros a while back. Quote
The Legonater Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Brother? I am breathless, amazed. After years, here we were again. Eyric pulls me into a brief hug before straightening. A ghost of a grin is on his face but he tries to remain professional. It's been too long. I've missed you, you know we could really use your help in the Kingdoms. I give a shake of my head. Duplovia isn't mine to protect anymore. It's yours. I'm doing good work with Heroica, but the work is far from finished. That's where my life is now. Quote

I have seen the good that heroes have done. We have hired heroes in the past to help us broker our peace with Delfrin, and they have always delivered. I had always hoped that you might be among them. But of course it was fate instead of design that has brought us back together." "Getting here was easy enough, at least... How do the locals deal with this place?" The Marauder ponders for a moment, then asks: "Are the Duplovians really going to let us take this thing, just like that? I'd just like to be prepared in case it turns out we're pilfering an invaluable cultural artifact or something like that." "The entire city, or most of it at least, is built by the Giants. We inhabit the lands they left behind. But the mountain - few stray here. There are still dangers in the darkness that we have yet to clear. In Duplovia it is considered important to respect the past - those parts of it that we inherited as well as those we didn't. As for Orrik's relic - few believe it truly still lies in the mountain. If it does, and you recover it, it is yours. The people of Duplovia have never tried to find it." Frogs are not known for their night time vision.> Pylon pauses. <But the earth does rumble.> And the earth does rumble. The heroes watch in shock as two enormous legs burst forth from the shadows. The Legonater Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I fight to keep my balance on the shaking earth. I have no words for the massive Guardian. What's our strategy? Hope for the best? Scubacarrot Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) You forgot my power bonus, and because of the way the Shield attack works, it deals 590x2 damage. So the Guardian should have 20 health left, but the second attack deals spillover damage from the Mask of Z. Dualstriking and ignores first negative effect should be removed from Guts' stats, by the way. Edited August 25, 2015 by Scubacarrot Quote
The Legonater Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 I try again. McColt! Help me steady this bow! We can hasten the process. Brother, keep at it. Quote
StickFig Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Guts v. Guardian - Shield/Riposte (([64+20]*3+39+4)*2*2=1180) Eyric v. Axe (Right) - Hit (37-12=25 Damage) McColt hastens Matthias - Failure (4) Guts v. Right Leg - Shield/Riposte (([64+20]*3+39+4)*2*2=1180, KO@620, Guardian KO@640, Left Axe KO@1040, 140 damage Right Axe) >Dyric v. Left Leg - Damage/Special Damage ([55/2]-6=22 Damage) Matthias v. Axe (Left Right) - Special Damage ([30/2]-4=11 Damage, Stunned) (Guts: 30-8=22 Damage, *Stunned*) Pylon heals Dyric - Success (1) Matthias shakes off the crushing blow and does his best to focus his befuddled mind to nurture Guts out of the stunned state. Scubacarrot Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Nope, we're actually doing really well, Guts has two turns, and as a marauder he can choose to target two enemies per turn (one for each weapon). For each of his turns, Guts targetted each part with both weapons, and rolled a Shield both times. A Marauder's shield deals Both WP x3+Level damage to each enemy targetted, or twice that if only one enemy was targetted. So he actually did 1180 damage to each enemy (and the slowed effect, but that doesn't matter now), and his Mask of Z gives the extra damage from killing the leg to the next enemies. (1180-620 = right leg dead, -20 = Mask dead, -400 left axe dead, -140 damage to right axe). So we have only two enemies left. Battle order: Guts recovers from stunned Pylon heals Matthias McColt Matthias recovers from stunned (Shouldn't he be? or was he special guarded?) Guts attacks Left Leg Eyric attacks Right Axe Dyric attacks Left Leg I am going to ask for confirmation from Zepher on this before it turns out I'm wrong. Edited August 26, 2015 by Scubacarrot Quote

I couldn't understand for a second there how Guts' strikes were so weak... then I realized I was an idiot hahaha. Quote
