Scubacarrot Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Guts takes off his hat as he slows down when he realizes his companions will defeat the enemy before he could rejoin the party. It was quite the kick back. As he uses the wide brimmed thing to wave some coolness to himself, he looks the thing up and down, then nods appreciatively to Dyric and Matthias. "I told you, Golems aren't so bad." A grin passes his mouth as he adds under his breath. "Providing there is not a room of these things waiting for us up ahead." Looking at what valuables the, now reduced to a giant pile of rubble, golem left, Guts shrugs apologetically as he pockets the Grating Stone. They would sort all loot out later, to make things fair, he was sure. They always did. "Right, so we got this nice blue mask that would do nicely to make either of you less of a pain to look at, and we got some gold. Matthias for the Mask? We can also keep it for Hoke, gods know that visor of his is not down nearly enough." Coming closer, Guts realizes that the mask is in fact way too large to use as headwear of any kind, and would be more suitable to be used as a Shield than anything else... "Or we can use it as a wall to hide him behind. Works. I'll hang on to it for now. Let's continue." Guts hands 40 gold to both Matthias and Dyric. Quote
Zepher Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 The heroes continue on their way, following the map that Lady Talligard gave them. They run into no more guardians, and the high empty halls are too large even to echo at most places, the sound of their foot steps fading to nothing. Silence falls upon the heroes and their companions. In the deepest and darkest cave they come upon the anvil finally. It sits forgotten and dusty, and no light falls on it. The room itself is utter darkness. "That is our anvil." Daneeka looks to Matthias. "You'll do the honors?" "What about about the rumors of its powers? Don't you think it'd be wise to try a test run, see if it's really all that it's cracked up to be?" Quote

StickFig Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Guts shrugs apologetically as he pockets the Grating Stone. "I'll hang on to it for now. Let's continue." Guts hands 40 gold to both Matthias and Dyric. Matthias rolls his eyes, giving Holla a look of contempt. "Yes, Master Guts, we're all sure that you'll be very fair, just like you always are." "Too bad you just don't care about anyone but yourself," he adds as they walk away, speaking in the frogs' tongue so that only Pylon understands. "That is our anvil." Daneeka looks to Matthias. "You'll do the honors?" Clearly sceptical, Matthias nonetheless approaches the anvil with reverence. "Somehow it doesn't seem right, that Orrik's anvil could be so small, so forgotten, so covered in dust. The Forger's artifice and artistry is evident in every living thing, the intricacy of life... is this really his fixed point, the tool of creation?" "What about about the rumors of its powers? Don't you think it'd be wise to try a test run, see if it's really all that it's cracked up to be?" "Guess we should. Thing might have been taken years ago and replaced by an ordinary hunk of iron. Remind me, what is this thing supposed to be capable off? I remember U'or got uncomfortable talking about, and he was vague to begin with." "You both would do well to follow Master U'Or's example in that caution," the gnome remarks as he stands near the artifact, his eyes fixed on it, following every line of the metal, his tiny bass voice expanding as his excitement grows. "Imagine all the wonders of the Tritech Corporation - powerful weapons, lifelike automatons, I've heard tell of flying ships - all that and much, much more would be possible for mere mortals. With his anvil, Orrik forged the world!" As he stands on tiptoe to blow away the dust, the gleam in Matthias' eyes reaches fever pitch. Extending his mechanically-assisted arms, he throws to the wind that same caution he so lately advised and reaches out to touch the object in front of him, intending to lift it in admiration. Quote

Guts makes a point of crossing his arms, and with one hand touches his neck."Or is this about that bridge?" With his anvil, Orrik forged the world! Zepher Posted August 29, 2015 Author Posted August 29, 2015 OoC: You guys never got an explanation from U'Or since he was already on an airship to Dastan when he explained what the anvil was. Remind me, what is this thing supposed to be capable off? I remember U'or got uncomfortable talking about, and he was vague to begin with." "It is said that the anvil created all things. I do not believe that is true, but it should have great powers of creation. That I don't doubt. Armor, weapons, buildings, golems - it would not surprise me if our most recent foe was birthed in this room. Perhaps even flesh and blood." Matthias rolls his eyes, giving Holla a look of contempt. "Yes, Master Guts, we're all sure that you'll be very fair, just like you always are." "Too bad you just don't care about anyone but yourself," he adds as they walk away, speaking in the frogs' tongue so that only Pylon understands. <I often find that those who have great ability on their own forget about their community. Not all, but many. They forget to care for them, and forget too that they are supported by them. It is an easy lesson to forget, and a difficult one to teach.> Clearly sceptical, Matthias nonetheless approaches the anvil with reverence. I feel you've mistaken the idea of heroes with the organization. I tear my eyes off the Anvil to focus on McColt. Maybe there was a day where Heroica was truly an organization of heroes, but that is not the case anymore. There is no command, McColt. I- I pause for a moment, trying to release some frustration that's been built up far too long. There is still some good in Heroica. But there is definitely turmoil building. We... we should move on. We have the anvil, there's no need to be here any longer. Quote
StickFig Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 "Speak your mind now or I'm leaving you and the damn frog." "It is said that the anvil created all things. I do not believe that is true, but it should have great powers of creation. That I don't doubt. Armor, weapons, buildings, golems - it would not surprise me if our most recent foe was birthed in this room. Perhaps even flesh and blood." Struggling to lift the anvil Daneeka's device clicks in and the gnome feels enormous strength rushing through his arms. He is able to lift the anvil in adoration, and his eyes go red as fire for a flash. He lowers the anvil. "What say you, Matthias? Is that the right anvil?" We... we should move on. We have the anvil, there's no need to be here any longer. In ignorance of all that's being said around him, Matthias stands stock still holding the anvil a few inches off the ground. He shudders, finally, and sets the weight down. "This is the anvil," he pronounces. "I will carry it." The gnome gathers himself, picks the anvil up once again, and turns to face the party. "What are we waiting for?" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 "Stuck?" He snorts. "No, Mr. Holla. I have chosen to serve. It would sometimes be easier to wander out of Haddon and walk in those front doors of your Hall, where they accept anyone with a taste for gold. But I have chosen my path. Do not confuse that with a lack of ambition." Guts smirks at the insinuation. "I guess some people are just better at serving than others. Move out, so we can drop you off at the palace and be on our way." The gnome gathers himself, picks the anvil up once again, and turns to face the party. "What are we waiting for?" The marauder had misjudged the Gnome. He figured he would be over what was his own failure at the battle for the bridge in Baltarok. Several of the 'heroes' there had refused to follow Guts' battle plan, which was solid according to what he had at his disposal the time. Guts had not forgotten, but he was willing to forgive. It seems Matthias preferred to blame Guts for his own weakness there, his own fear of being hurt. The Marauder was not impressed, he would look differently at Matthias from now on, to be sure, and definitely not keep him out of his sight. The gnome tried really hard not to answer the Marauder's attempt of reconciliation, so instead said: "We go back to the city. You walk in front." Quote
StickFig Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 (edited) The gnome tried really hard not to answer the Marauder's attempt of reconciliation, so instead said: "We go back to the city. You walk in front." I'm not even sure what that means. I assume it's Guts saying that? Matthias nods the tiniest bit - it's hard to move your head when you're smushing your face against an anvil several times your size - and takes a few steps forward, passing the others, but then he stops. "Ummm, I would lead the way, but I can't see a thing. Would someone else mind walking up front?" Edited August 30, 2015 by StickFig Quote
Zepher Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 I feel you've mistaken the idea of heroes with the organization. "As long as you keep your head clear, Dyric." Eyric sizes up the other heroes, as if for the first time. "Remember, brother, you can return home if the need ever arises. Or if you need help setting something right." I'm not even sure what that means. I assume it's Guts saying that? Matthias nods the tiniest bit - it's hard to move your head when you're smushing your face against an anvil several times your size - and takes a few steps forward, passing the others, but then he stops. "Ummm, I would lead the way, but I can't see a thing. Would someone else mind walking up front?" OoC: I believe he is having Guts project an opinion of you onto you - not forcing your hand roleplaying, simply saying how his character is intrepreting your actions, even if it's not Matthias' intention. So yes, Guts saying that. "I will lead the way." The heroes and their companions make their way out of the caverns and back into the great city of Duplovia. Outside the palace they bid farewell to McColt and Eyric. "Let me know when you're in the High Kingdoms next, Dyric." "And make it soon. I understand that coming home is hard. For many reasons. But I would like to see you for more than a day." The two disappear into the Palace and Daneeka leads the heroes back towards Talligard's Manor. Once inside, they find her in the same place they left her, more or less. "We are glad you were able to return so swiftly. Did you find what you needed?" <Matthias,> says Pylon, from the back of Talligard's Hall. <I beg your pardon, but I fear I must turn back to Haddon in a short while as well. The Shivering Square we left behind plagues my mind, and Guffington only arranged for me to accompany you as far as Duplovia as it is.> Quote
The Legonater Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I feel a twinge of regret leaving the palace. After so long, it felt almost criminal to be leaving the walled city in such a short span of time. Also, there was the sensation that I'd somehow lost a morsel of respect from the two guides. Had we corrupted their view of Heroica, or where they simply seeing it's true nature? At this point it's impossible to tell. Either way, I try to cling to the joy of seeing my home and brother again. It was a fleeting feeling. Yes, I say to the woman. We have found what we came for. Quote
StickFig Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Matthias gingerly sents the Anvil down in the center of the hall, and nods along with Dyric. "Yes." Mopping sweat from his brow, the gnome regards Daneeka's mechanical arms with high regard, noting that his reverence for the Anvil, not the physical exertion of carrying it, is the cause of his sweat. Turning towards the back of the party, Matthias gives a small bow. "The blessings of your gods go with you, High Priest Pylon. I regret that we could not attend to the evil in Haddon together, and indeed that I am unable to accompany you on a search for Sir Poletad as I am otherwise obligated. Peace go with you." Quote
Scubacarrot Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Guts nods to Talligard, and hands her back her map. "Thank you, for your assistance. Is there anything you'd like us to relay back to Guffington. I assume you know about...?" Quote
