I was trying to come up with the best way to write a response like this. I have to say you've done very nice job. *sweet* *y*

Actually, I got a bunch of parts orders in today and all that exposure has taken it's toll. It isn't me talking, it's the LEGO! *wacko*

(speaking of which, does it seem particularly slow this evening? you'd think people went and got lives or something, but that's just silly)

I think, even though with all our civilization and stuff, at heart, we are still hunters and gatherers. Since hunting is both tiresome and a bloody mess to do, gathering stuff is the only thing we can do nowadays with justifiable effort. *sweet* Even better, we can let other people do the gathering and let them ship the stuff to our caves where we can indulge in it.

But after assembling 15 sets

What makes Lego so addictive?

1. Chewing/sucking the tyres

2. A creative medium through which you can express emotion with little need for artistic expertise

3. Opening the crinkly packets

4. Something you can do anytime

5. Many people grew up with it and it grew up with them

6. Having a definitive hobby that can answer any question regarding free-time, if you have the courage to say "I play with Lego"; it may not seem that embarrassing to adults (I think :-D ) but to teenagers it's mortifying to be called a baby for having better things to do than wave a white stick around in front of a supersonic lightbulb to make a plumber attack a donkey (If you didn't get it, I was talking about the Wii *n* *shivers*)...I guess between 10 and 14 is when most Lego fans are lost...just a month left for me before I leave the danger zone...I must say, if it weren't for the internet, my Lego would've been far worse off - I might still be playing, but that eventfull day when I saw Micahberger's animals on BS gave me new light...but I'm warbling... :-|

7. A captivating and enveloping hobby/way of life that covers every aspect of interest: internet communities, paperwork, collectables, MISB stuff and creativity with but without rules... :-/ - How many stamp collectors do you see using their ancient stamps to send letters?

Good question!

It seems to be to be a perfect balance of several variables:

Versatility - LEGO is almost limitless in what you can do with it and how kids can play with it.

Tradition - Everyone knows LEGO. It's been around for ages. The fact that people can pick up a LEGO set today and find a good helping of the same types of elements they played with 25 years ago or more (along with some new pieces that still retain a "LEGO feel") is a real catalyst for nostalgia.

Quality - Some might argue that LEGO is slipping in this area lately, but some parents these days are passing their old collections (or at least their love of the brick) on to the next generation. That says something...

Adorableness/Coolness - LEGO has produced some really lovable people in the minifig. The LEGO minifig has really helped kids to extend an already imaginative style of play. Bricks are great...minifigs are great too...slap in some accessories for the little guys and and continuous stream of new and interesting parts, and you've got something special. And the minifig and the bricks around him/her strike a very interesting balance of genuinely cool and cute.

i just noticed my topic has been brought up again *sweet* (yay) anyway since i've started this topic i've thought about it, i think one of the reasons is because it is small and does take up much room, eg., when i was about 7 i loved castle becuase i could make a hole kindom in an area of 1m, same with SW the hole universe was just my house and it isnt very big and ect ect.
