"The year. AI means After Invasion. Current year is AI 254."

"...hmpf...I need to have a chat with our editors...."

Annienal squinted at the lettering before blushing, embarrassed that she'd forget something like that. "Maybe I, um, need glasses... or something..." She soon lightened up though at Avina's comment about the mistake on the page. "Well, I, um, wouldn't mind being an editor for you guys. I mean, I've got some of my own stuff that I frequently go over and revise a lot..."

Annienal waves goodbye to the ogre guard as she follows the group to the docks, feeling uneasy walking the streets of Eubric and knowing the automatons could jump out at her from anywhere.

"What do you think Heroica's goal is?"

The question was one Annienal wasn't entirely sure of. She could explain her own reasons for joining, but the organizations actual goals were rather cloudy and hard to discern.

"Well, the founders of Heroica were the six survivors of the Assault on Castle Fortaan, so I'd think the goal is to help others out. Although, at times this also overlaps with the acquirement of status, power, and wealth, but I wouldn't really say that's why I joined... at least, not fully."

Keliim looks on as Reg walks by him. The big man looks the man in the eyes, he doesn´t know the thugs feelings of their encounter but something tells it wasn´t too friendly. Keliim grips his axe tighter, how easy it would be to hit him down... but he wasn´t a coward nor a cold blooded killer... Not anymore atleast, he try to forget the memories of the crimes done in service of Karain but they are there to guide him to do something better with his life.

He loosens the grip on his axe and shouts after Reg as he carry is friends into the darkness of the Hovel,

"Take this as a new chance in life!... An' remember th' name, "Keliim"! Hopefuly we won´t meet agai'

The others come out and they probably start heading towards next stop.

Keliim tells farewell to the Ogre, "Take care, watch out for crazy blasti' mechs!"

OoC: Sorry for double post

"What do you think Heroica's goal is?"

Keliim listened to Avina's speech but he didn´t answer anything becuase he actually didn´t care too much about Heroica but he agreed somewhat of what Em said,

"Neither has I heard of any goal's oft the organization... but things hast run pretty smoothly and without too much friction so far I thin' , cause considerin what kind of mix of everythin' between the members art.

"What do you think Heroica's goal is?"

"I haven't been with Heroica long, but I think Heroica's goal is power. Power for it's Heroes. That's probably why they keep clashing with the Crimson Crown."

"Maybe I, um, need glasses... or something..."

"I could help with that, remind me to tell you of Opticius the Consuming when this is over."

"I could help with that, remind me to tell you of Opticius the Consuming when this is over."

Annienal gives Calamity a disapproving look, clearly disturbed by the woman's claims.

"I don't think you understand what you're meddling with, Calamity, and that in and of itself scares me more than a mysterious man and his horde of robots."

"Hmm. Have you considered that might just you being afraid of what you don't know. I mean, I am not trying to kill you, but this man and his automatons are."

Calamity smiles sweetly at Annie.

"You'll see, you won't be so afraid of demons after you've cuddled with a few of them."

His mouth works for a moment as though he's trying to come up with an answer. His face clouds over, his expression changing as his mind wanders over the tasks he's completed. Eventually, he just shrugs, face pinched. "The Crimson Crown is a group. Heroica is individuals under a banner. If they've-- we've... a goal, I've never heard it."

"It's not worth dwelling on." He sighs, running a hand through his hair. It was hard to tell whether he actually didn't care or if he simply didn't want to think about it.

"It's not worth dwelling on? I beg to differ. Your organization has phenomenal power. We've been around for a long time. Our people are fully prepared to sacrifice their lives for our cause."

"It has not slipped our notice that somehow, next to no heroes have had to die for theirs. Perhaps it has slipped yours. Consider: you are some of the most well-trained warriors in the world. You receive pleas for help, with potentially world-altering decisions and repercussions, from around all of Olegaia. And your people simply...don't die anymore."

"It's not something you can refuse to acknowledge. At least, it won't be for much longer."

"Some heroes deliberately betray their employers for personal gain. That doesn't sully the good deeds of your fellows, cripple their own goals in the process?"

"So far. Yes. I don't think it will last much longer."

19510387124_06631a879f_t.jpg

"Entirely possible, but most clashes between our organizations stem from the fact that we don't often let anything stand in the way of our goals. But the Rose, apparently rightly, believes that by proper exposure to eachother's methods, we can prove to be effective allies."

"But yes, if any of you attempt to enslave any archdemons or the like, we will not hesitate to strike at you. I tolerate your words because I am explicitly ordered to do so in the interest of gaining an unbiased understanding of your organization and those who represent it."

"It is true the Order can be extreme our own methods, but it is a necessary extreme, and one all of us are willing to take. We are a singular force, unlike Heroica. Our battles often pit us against the unknown. You could say it is our ultimate philosophy. We embrace that which we can understand and destroy what we cannot. We must learn and evolve at the natural pace of things. Magic is a rapidly multiplying and growing threat to our future. All this.....technology that should not yet exist is a very present danger. And divine faith...." Avina trailed off momentarily. "....is a relic that must be abandoned."

The discussion had taken up most of the trip, and by now the heroes were on the docks. Gnats fluttered in the lantern light that made most of the docks visible, drawn to the dancing flames and the stench of fresh fish. Most passerby were either packing in and going back to their families, while the sailors visiting Eubric were just getting started and hitting the taverns. One tall building caught their eye, lit up by tiny, ethereal lights contained in glass bulbs. A large, violently glowing trident was emblazoned on the front.

As the heroes stared at this anomaly, the lights slowly began to flicker out, from the top down. The large trident dimmed, and the other lights fizzled out, until only a large sign overlooking the front entrance remained alight. Reddish light was visible from inside. And the only man still in the building was just exiting, locking up for the night.

Mortimer tenses visibly, his shoulders squaring, hands clenched into shaking fists, mouth pinching into a thin, angry line. His stride almost breaks-- almost-- and he seems to tune out the rest of Avina's words, lone eye focused forward like a spearpoint.

He relaxes slightly when they reach the docks, squinting and cocking his head at the last man exiting the labs, though his tone is still short. "Who's that? Does he have-- something in his hands?"

As they walk, he still listens to Avina's rubbish but interupting her now and then to put in some input like,

"But yes, if any of you attempt to enslave any archdemons or the like, we will not hesitate to strike at you. I tolerate your words because I am explicitly ordered to do so in the interest of gaining an unbiased understanding of your organization and those who represent it."

"Not enslav, kill." *listening* "I tolerate thy words cause, we get paid for it... and I habt these earplugs." He shows one, made of hardened and sculpted beewax but quickly puts it back and gets to his own thoughts.

"I should try out that "list-thing" l"ist of crazy, dangerous lunitics cults and thugs", if I only had some paper. She would go on it." he thinks, looks on Avina and laughs."

When they get to the docks and Tritech, he also sees the hooded man leaving.

"He hast somethin' in his hand, too far for me to see who that figure ist and what he ist carrin'! Looks like some kind of disc or core, hart to tell. Lets get closer, maybe we will know better then."

"And then people call me delusive..." Calamity mumbles after Avina finished her rant. She looks around to the other Heroes.

"So what's the plan, guys? Talk, attack? Attack, then talk?"

"I thinkst it wouldst be wise to move in on that ol' man right away now, an' questionin him out directly!"

Keliim start to walk but suddenly stops, thinks and looks around the place, to see if there is someone else there visible or hidden, "no suprise!" he thinks.

"But we needst to be careful, don´st thy think?"

Annienal was disappointed in Avina's lack of action against Calamity. It felt like letting a rabid dog lose to a populace, and Annienal had had enough.

He relaxes slightly when they reach the docks, squinting and cocking his head at the last man exiting the labs, though his tone is still short. "Who's that? Does he have-- something in his hands?"

"Does it look like this?" Annienal hands her Depleted Ether Core to Mortimer.

Mortimer's jaw works for a moment, unsure of what to say as his attention snaps from the depleted ether core to the blurry figure in the distance.

"I... uh... can't tell." He clears his throat, shaking his head for a moment, and rubs his eye as though it would help. "I can't... see very well. I can only tell something's there."

OoC: :hmpf: grow-up already

Keliim looks on the other thinking, "we don´t habt all day!" He concentrates his gaze at the thing the man has in his hand and then on the thing Annie has and says,

"Rubbish, whats ist this nonsence! Aye, it looks the same, it ist probably a ethercore. But we don't habt time to stand here another day and ponder on the matter. Lets move!

He turns to Calamity,

"It does seem like we art two groups here on this quest, we two and those two. Shall we go?"

"Certainly resembles an Ether Core, yes. Interesting. And incriminating."

Keliim start to walk but suddenly stops, thinks and looks around the place, to see if there is someone else there visible or hidden, "no suprise!" he thinks.

There doesn't appear to be anyone else in the immediate vicinity. There are still a few windows Kellim can see through even from down below, and there don't appear to be any figures in them.

Mortimer shrugs, sighing deeply. "Let's go have a chat, then, though following him might prove more fruitful."

The party advances towards the man just as he's pulling the door shut. He looks incredibly nervous at their approach, tucking the Ether Core deep into his cloak.

21241188611_b0a1acb05c_t.jpg

"E-Erm, yes? I mean, no. Sorry, but, ah, the Tritech Laboratories are-...closed..." His eyes flick between all the heroes, and he reflexively takes a step back. "...y-you should go. Now."

19510387124_06631a879f_t.jpg

"Not happening. We have a few ques-"

Hardly a moment passed after Avina had begun talking before the man whipped something out from the opposite side of his cloak, hitting Avina square in the face. An explosion of smoke filled the immediate area, and the unmistakable sound of a door being slammed shut echoed from inside the fog. The alchemist coughed and swept her cloak to try and clear the smoke.

19510387124_06631a879f_t.jpg

"Damn!...well, that was far more dramatic than I expected. If I had to guess, I'd say that's our man. It looks like he's locked himself into a corner, any ideas on breaking inside? We can't let him find a way out."

"I see plenty of windows, but they're pretty high up. Seems like Chalvo here was locking up for the night. Reg wasn't kidding when he said this guy was paranoid. What is he expecting, a hit squad?"

Posted

"Heroes, based on the way the robots reacted," Mortimer mutters. "We don't know what's in there, do we? Shit. Only way in's the front door, I guess. Can't risk smoking him out by tossing bombs through the windows..."

Em taps the front door, trying to determine what it would take to blow it open or knock it down.

Posted (edited)

The door is locked tight and reinforced. Apparently Tritech really doesn't want its secrets getting stolen. Again.

19510387124_06631a879f_t.jpg

"We can't just chop it down. It would take a lot of force to get this open. Now is the time to get creative, heroes. You're supposed to be good at that," remarked Avina with a hint of disdain. "He probably knows we're coming, so don't worry about being subtle."

Annienal coughs at the dropping of the smoke bomb and attempts to blow the smoke away with her Sapphire, seemingly blowing it away with her breath.

"*cough cough* Well, um, we could burn the door down? Although perhaps we should have someone ready with water just incase..."

"How big art those windows, couldst one of thy gals get up on my shoulders, an' get through or see inside! Whats thy others think?"

Looks at Annie and asks, Thou habt somethin' with whats to make fire but we maybe don't wanna burn down the place.

"Hey." Calamity has her hands raised, dark energy swirling around her slowly moving fingers. "You might want to stand back just a bit." She warns, as she unleashes her spellcasting powers aimed at the wall next to the door.

Keliim still looking at the windows and pondering about the ladies weight and acrobatic abilities. "Hmm, maybe thou Avina or Calamity wouldst be suitable to climb... Annie, wouldst be too hard to balance withst her armor on!"

Suddenly he hears how Calamity shouts out and shoots some magic at the wall where he is standing.

Just in seconds Keliim jumps to the side before the blast would had incinerated him instead. "Hey, aye! Whats thou doin'? I like myself like this."
