Because the 3-in-1s tend to go the brick-built route with animals (especially birds, it seems) so the pieces can be more easily reused in alternate builds.

Over on brickset saw something new (for me) due for release this year:

creator expert 10252 Volkswagen Beetle

Sounds enticing to me since I missed 10187 back in 2008.

On the one hand, a Creator Expert Beetle (especially in Love Bug Herbie colors) would be awesome. One the other hand, I still haven't even been able to justify buying the F40 :(

I remember the interview that the designers did. They said LEGO didn't want so many tiles, they wanted the stud and the studs that said "LEGO" on them. Boy have times changed.

I only hope, that is not bad as last year F40, design of this supercar in lego form gives me nightmares.Mini cooper is better, but still average set for me.

What I love is camper van, great set with lots of details, and functions.It will be hard to make beetle look same as real car, because this car is so aerodynamic.

I understand it's just your opinion, and while the length may appear somewhat slightly short, for the scale if it, it is an excellent representation of the F40, the build is solid, has a lot of detail and amazing build techniques, not to mention designed by a truly skilled lego builder...

Yes, main problem for me that is too short.Front is big, back is very small and everything in it is crowded also official presentation when some stickers were in bad position doesnt make me feel satisfied with these model.This F40 will be better in bigger scale that come closer to Mini Cooper so about 1:12 not around 1:17(Some details looks in this scale so big).Problem with these creator cars is that scale of every car is varying but price is same.I rather want one scale and varying price.

Damn you Lego. This is going to be an expensive year. I was only going to buy this year's Creator car, this set, but there is also the Ideas Caterham and the Technic 911. Grrr!

Matter of taste; I find the F40 very well done (looks much better in reality than on photos) but don't like the Mini that I find too "blocky".

I hope that the Beetle will be good. I didn't really like the previous one, I didn't buy it back then (in a way I regret it, but just as source of dark blue parts, not for the model itself)

31052 Vacation Getaway (the RV) will be for sale in May in North America according to the back of the calendar. Since Fun in the Park is coming out the 22nd that may be the release date.

I'm not normally into the city related sets or creator sets other than recently getting into the modulars a bit... but seeing that RV, it looks an awfully decent set, especially alongside the fun in the park set! Definitely going to aim to get them both, and hoping that fountain set gets released in the UK too...

It will be released in the UK I think, at least through Shop at Home. You'll have to spend a good bit of money before you get it though, it's a promotional freebie. I absolutely love it, so I'll probably get Fun in the Park and maybe the new Friends Hot Dog Van.

See, this is why I've wanted non-building minifig-compatible Creator sets for so long. The buildings are cool, but there is so much potential for vehicles as well.

Think how great something like Transport Ferry would be if it were minifig compatible. Although that would make it quite expensive, so maybe a smaller scale ferry. I really hope this sells well and they produce more Creator vehicles like this.

You're right Anna: i'm going to wait for the offer to get Fun In The Park, the Fountain Set and the green base plate with extra white fences from Pick A Brick ;)
