Jay Psi Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) It looks like the news that the 1H 2016 sets are on their way to Sariel is being better received than information about the actual sets! That's what good reviews (and hamsters) will do to a group of AFOLs. At least I am reassured that I haven't booked the day off in vain. Edited November 18, 2015 by Jay Psi Quote
Vectormatic Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I only hope that dragster will not get bad rating like last year formula offroader...I know formula offroader is uninteresting set for afols but im sure that offer a lot for kids and for builders as parts donor. I like the offroader, havent bought it yet, but €55 for a full indepedant suspension set is decent IMHO, it would've been nicer with a V8 fake engine (more accurate to the real thing), but you cant win em all, it is also quite a nice candidate for RC-ing, plenty of room for all the RC bits, but light enough to be moved by an L motor at a good pace. The dragster though... i hate the look of it, i was hoping more for a modified hot-rod style drag racer, instead we get one of those top-fuel-silhouette jobs, with YET another new color and a hideous nose. The only redeeming feature i can think of so far is the tumbler tires, if the price of those on bricklink drops enough as a result i'll be giving my 42000 a tire-swap Quote
GoldVillage Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I think the bucket will be operated manually by a gear. I think you are right, it makes sense to build it in that way ;) but if they would decide to go all-pneumatics, my idea would be pretty good :D Quote
Geekphysique Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 BTW, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you guys for your kind feedback (and also to deny any and all responsibility for rodent-related addictions ;)). It's so heartwarming, I've actually sent a screenshot to the Lego employee responsible for shipping the review sets, as a way to say thanks. I'll put some little teaser on my YT channel as soon as the sets arrive and I'll make sure some little furry critter is included :) Sariel, I actually use your videos to demonstrate Audio/Video distribution systems I design. Your videos are family-friendly, crisp and have good colour definition. Due to all of the above I often play through a few videos if I need to show off a system. On more than one occasion I have played through a review video for a board room full of executives, a church full of people, or university teaching spaces. The hamsters are always a win. I look forward to your next set of videos! Quote
Rishab N Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I was so worried that there would be no Sariel reviews for these sets, but glad that its still happening. Its almost a tradition whenever new sets get unveiled . Looking forward to these new reviews as always Quote

The hamsters are always a win. Now you're giving me a stage fright ;) Fortunately, hamsters are strangers to such feelings. Or any other feelings except for being hungry or sleepy ;) On a serious note, I will be shooting these new reviews with my Canon 70D for the first time. I expect a huge visual improvement, and if that helps you in your job, then it's a double win :) Quote
Babaloveslego55 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) The 2L axles in black aren't new; I've got a couple. However, I think the 3L are. No they aren't, I have one of the black 3l axles. It's funny that the pictures are missing, but if you hover over them, they get zoomed in and you can see the details :) There is a new piece for the exhausts on the hydroplane racer.Edit: I just found them on the 42042 I'm building. kolbjha Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 According to Blakbird's http://technicopedia.com/ the black 3L axles have been around, at least in Technic, in the period 1984-2003. It was quite common in the epic sets of the 90's, for instance 8480 has around 40 of them. Quote

It was quite common in the epic sets of the 90's, for instance 8480 has around 40 of them. You're right. The move towards studless-only sets also brought a recolouring of axles to make them easier to distinguish; black is reserved for even-length axles while LBG is used for odd-length axles. Unless the axle needs to be a different colour for aesthetic purposes that's the way it has been for a decade plus. Quote
Richard Dower Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 i have axles of various lengths in numerous colours, red, brown, beige, white, green .....i have loads of 3L and 5L axles in black...i also have 2L axles that are not notched. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Depending on the spread of the era of your sets, you might have those. I do, for instance, since I have sets from a wide era. Quote
Paul Boratko Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Looks like the very rare and expensive 11L liftarms in orange are making a retun.. I guess this also confirms new axle colors as well.. Quote
Richard Dower Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) that colour is yellow or bright light orange....not pure orange. the plane is superb!...if it is 9.99 then it is an amazing deal!.....11 panels! it looks great, the stickers are excellent, those new 7L flex hoses in black, some sort of axels in yellow...or bright light orange like the Wall E 3L axle..... Yeah, you're right.. Comparing it with the orange parts on the Kart Racer in the catalog, it is definitely lighter.. Quote
Ondra Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 I updated first post with info and photos provided from s@h.Still waiting for most of sets from first half, and some info. Quote
Jim Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I just got word that they're sending the sets today. I don't know which ones, maybe all of them, maybe not, but I'll most likely have something to show by December 1st. These are the sets you will (most likely) be receiving 42044 - Display Team Jet 42045 - Hydroplane Racer 42046 - Getaway Car 42047 - Police Interceptor 42048 - Race Kart 42049 - Mine Loader 42050 - Drag Racer 42052 - Heavy Lift Helicopter The Airport Rescue Vehicle is "missing". Looks like the very rare and expensive 11L liftarms in orange are making a retun.. I guess this also confirms new axle colors as well.. There's lot to of action going on in the (flex) axles department, that's for sure (for all the 2016 sets). New colors, rare colors etc But orange?! The plain is basic Yellow. The colored axles are yellow too. Quote
rollermonkey Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 (edited) Anyone else disappointed in the hydroplane's 'feature'? Turning a knob to roll the engine cylinders? That's weak, even for a $20 set. Edited November 19, 2015 by rollermonkey Quote
Jim Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Anyone else disappointed in the hydroplane's 'feature'? Turning a knob to roll the engine cylinders? That's weak, even for a $20 set. Bear in mind it's a very small set. It's comparible with the Hoover Craft. I don't think it's too bad. The looks, parts and color scheme seem to be okay. Quote
rollermonkey Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Sure, but gear A turns gear B isn't even as nice as this year's $12.99 set. Quote
Jim Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Sure, but gear A turns gear B isn't even as nice as this year's $12.99 set. Maybe you are right. I guess this set is for the looks, with a (very) small Technical bonus. Quote

I think the other side of the engine is connected to the wheels in the body, so rolling the boat will turn the engine and the rear exhaust, mildly dissapointed that there is no steering mechanism, but if it has two wheels behind the seat and a slide-nub under the rear it isnt really needed for play anyway But yeah, in terms of feature complexity it is on the level of the twin rotor heli, and well below the tracked loader We do get some very nice panels, exhausts, flex-axles and a 4 cilinder engine though Quote
