allanp Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 It's really cool of TLG to give out sets for review. I know it works as free marketing for them, but it's still really cool of them. As always, I am mostly looking forward to the new parts. TLG really came through with the pneumatics, turntable and so on for this year. Fingers crossed! Quote
Sariel Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Well, I feel they do take some risk with both of us. Neither of us is obliged in any way to consult the review with them - just as it should be - so we could give the sets really bad notes if we wanted to. I'm sure I've been harsh on some sets and the designer in question probably wouldn't be pleased with it. But I'm trying to be thorough and explain in detail why I like or dislike something, and that seems to be working out for everyone so far. Quote

Can't wait for the reviews - thanks for the teaser :) Will you upload all reviews on December 1st or one review a day? I hope you unleash them all on day 1. Quote

If we consider LEGO set design to be an artistic process, then I would imagine that criticism - when presented constructively - is as valuable to designers as it is to artists. You may think that you've been harsh in the past, but the fact that you have still received an impressive haul of swag shows that somebody at TLG considers your reviews to be fair. Quote
Sariel Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 somebody at TLG considers your reviews to be fair. Or they can't resist watching hamsters ride their sets ;) Yes, my plan is to publish all reviews on December 1st. No point to keep you waiting. Quote
6ix Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Here is the link Wow! That's a *lot* of functions Lego could put into the model. Quote
aminnich Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I really hope they make this model to its full potential Quote

Now all you need to do is to build an hamster and then do a review next to your real hamster  Quote

Liam1 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I'm new on here, but I think Lego should do an rc model of a Claas tractor or combine harvester that would be pretty cool. I think they need to do some work on a pnuematic model as I think the pnuematics on the Mercedes Acros 42043 aren't very good. Quote

Welcome! i on the other hand dont think its possible to justify a such simple model as a harvester as RC, but who knows... could still be good The new pneumatics on the Acros seems to be awesome, im afraid its the weak 1 minipump compressor that doesnt do it justice. agrof Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I just join to the grateful crowd to say thank you to Jim and Sariel (and Jangbricks and BrickBuilder) for the great effort on making the reviews in the past and the future. I really enjoy to read / watch them time to time. I have the most interest for 42050, how the wheelie function is integrated. I am hoping for a surprising fun mechanism (or playing with the center of the gravity), and not just a boring elevator beam with an extra wheel. Oh, and the B-models! Quote

zweihander Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone, here is my reverse-engineered 42046. I spent ~3 hours on it, mostly working on LDD. It was a fun little challenge for me. I left the rear part mostly unfinished since I couldn't find any picture that shows even a hint of it. I also couldn't quite figure out the section where the angled connectors on the side connect to the chassis, so I did what looked like the closest position. But I'm pretty sure there isn't a lbg 1/2 bush there in the real version.. The doors are connected at only one point, so I think there might be something below that holds them in place. Also the two 3l lbg axles on the roof need to be replaced with this part, but it does not exist in LDD yet. I think the same part should be used for the hood scoop connection because using a 3l axle there makes it also a bit wobbly. And here is the lxf file if anyone is interested. In my opinion, the stickers & the orange rims make the car look much more interesting than my full black/dbg version, but I do not have any orange rims unfortunately. True that. The new pneumatics are awesome but the single mini pump doesn't show it off to it's full potential. Quote
Kman860 Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) True that. The new pneumatics are awesome but the single mini pump doesn't show it off to it's full potential. Really they should have 2 pumps timed to alternate pumping times, something like the difference between a 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine, one has a power stroke (pump) every rotation, and one has a power stroke every other rotation. Moz Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 The new pneumatics are awesome but the single mini pump doesn't show it off to it's full potential. Bring back the air tank! I think the air tank makes pneumatics much more usable, and for that matter makes it more worth while to have a manual pump as well as the compressor. Quote
Jim Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Without revealing any actual set information, I can tell you guys that these new models do perform well on stage! The colors really pop out in the pictures Quote
allanp Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 AHA! A riddle! Ok, these models perform well on stage. Stage is an anagram for gates. Gareth Gates was a runner up in pop idol in 2002. The year 2002 started on a Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon was a hit song for the Moody Blues. Moody Blues have the initials M and B, the same as Mercedes Benz. Mercedes Benz always gives us amazing new parts. OMG do you know what these means?! Amazing new parts! YIPPEE!!! Quote
Anio Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 we could give the sets really bad notes if we wanted to. lel. Have you ever seen a set being smashed on Eurobricks ? Apparently, those who give bad notes from time to time are not among the people who can write early reviews anymore. I guess I will publish my reviews in the end of December. January maybe. Quote
