rollermonkey Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) For those not familiar with drag racing, the A-model is what's known as a funny car. It looks pretty good if you compare it to that class of drag racer. A prominent feature of funny cars is the way the whole body lifts up, and I suspect that may be what the mini-LA is used to do. I'm not sure one could lift this whole vehicle. Edited November 26, 2015 by rollermonkey Quote

Josephiah Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 parts: 647 (12/2015) Wow, how much better does the funny car look in that side shot than it does on the box? Quote

Saberwing40k Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Well, now we see that the engine on the dragster is chain driven, as was suspected. I also see an axle possibly for HOG at the back, and some mysterious Bionicle ball joint on the underside, purpose currently unknown. It's a very hollow looking model, but then most dragsters are the same way. Also, somebody on brickshelf uploaded gigantic images of pretty much all of the 2016 Bionicle sets, giving us a a good look at some possible new parts. Check it out:http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=560420 In particular, look at the tail of one part of 71301 that piece is almost a #2 axle joiner, but with an axle hole in the center. Sadly, the two other sockets are for 3mm rods, and not Technic axles. So close, yet so far. Quote
Kman860 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Here is an image of a funny car for those unfamiliar: *snip* The basic idea is a dragster engine inside a (usually) modified street car. Wow, how much better does the funny car look in that side shot than it does on the box? +1000 Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 To me that funny car looks neither funny nor beautiful... Quote
Vectormatic Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 The Race Kart is by far the best - smaller - set of the 1H 2016 wave. Agreed! im not 100% on the color scheme, but i think all the panels are available in different colors, so a re-color should be easy if i want to. From what ive seen so far it will also be the biggest 1H set that ill get, im not into mining equipment, the dragster is a sore disappointment, and im not a big chopper fan either Quote

Vectormatic Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I think you will be interested in my review Oooh, cant wait already Im not sure yet if i want to go the green route (have a spare 42039 boxed on the shelf i could rip into) or order the blue panels from the hydro-racer off of BL Quote

agrof Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I am a fan of the 42050, it is so gnome looking. I see a lot modding potential in it... aaaand at least in the new picures the blue panels look more medium blue, which would be great if they really are! Quote
Babaloveslego55 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) Heavy Lift Helicopter (03/2016) parts: 1042 Good pics! Why dident you put the pic of the helicopter up? Edited November 27, 2015 by Jim Removed images Quote
Jim Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Good pics! Why dident you put the pic of the helicopter up? Please don't quote a list of pictures! And read a couple of comments back, before you ask a question: no pictures - seems like it will be released in March Quote
Vectormatic Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I'm not sure about the green route either, but there's a pretty big chance I will know this weekend (I have sent the Hydro Plane to Mostlytechnic, so I won't be able to judge a blue version) You'd need three hydroplane sets to do it properly though, given that each contains only one blue curved panel, and the kart has three. Jim Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 You'd need three hydroplane sets to do it properly though, given that each contains only one blue curved panel, and the kart has three. Actually, four But you are absolutely right. Having a single Hydro Plane wouldn't be enough. Quote
Trango Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 So... Heavy Lift Helicopter postponed till March, that Airport Vehicle (without suspension - blasphemy) presumably got pulled back... what else is there in the big set department for 1H? I'm not advanced enough to appreciate a panel here and there in the small funky sets, so it looks like 1H won't bring anything for me. Good thing I finally bought a 9398 4x4 Rock Crawler to compensate! ;-) Quote

This set seems to be the helicopter. Airport Vehicle pulled back is something which has been suggested in this topic. Definitely no confirmation on that matter. Let's not jump to conclusions Quote
JimDude Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) Wow, how much better does the funny car look in that side shot than it does on the box? Quite. This must be the worst box-art ever. It ~totally~ does not capture the proportions of the actual model, which actually isn't half bad (I mean when you take into account that it is modelled after exceptionally ugly cars in drag dragsters). OK, there's the inset in the upper right corner, but that doesn't really help. Concerning steering: there's a gear under a 45* angle sticking out of - what would be - the boot/trunk, no? The mining truck will be a must-buy by for my 5-yo. He's technically - ha! - too young for Technic, but he manages to complete 50% of the steps without my help, and he plays with them until the gears are worn out. (Then daddy rushes off to buy more gears - I'm really not doing this for myself such a weakling ) The mining truck also just happens to have a really fair price-point. Lakop Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I'd buy the dragster for those rear wheels. Not so keen on the colour scheme though. H Quote
