Kintobor Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Yeah, there's definitely some kind of sinister looking castle in the distance, and I'm a sucker for evil looking castles. There's also a white dragon that's missing, which we can assume is the captive dragon, and the black well is probably some sort of villainous marker or something. Really loving the dragons and the colours. The buildings look really good, too, especially the market which looks really nice. Can't wait to see this villainous castle! Quote

Wardancer Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 There is the 1x1 plate with tooth piece in pearl gold, that is new. Quote
OmShanti Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 https://flic.kr/p/BjRQWA Here you go You're awesome! Thank you so much. The new sets look great, after seeing these images I know I'll be getting all of them. The eggs are interesting, I really like them. Emily's new face print is so cute. I hope Azari's outfit stays switched like that, it's so much better. I'm really liking that green girl elf. The dragon banners are very cool. The new book mold is fabulous, and I adore the new artwork! Those dragons are precious. Quote
Joebot Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Wow, these new sets look great! I'm really impressed with the combination of whimsical, fantasy designs and some nice medieval-era buildings. I feel like all the good Castle designers swtiched over to Elves, and they're just crushing it. My only issue is those dragon heads ... they remind me of an old cartoon that used to be on PBS called "Dragon Tales." They're just a bit too big-eyed and, well ... "precious" as OmShanti put it. My oldest daugther (she's 19 now) was really into the Belville princess stuff when she was younger. She was looking at my Elves sets the other day, and she was complaining, "Why didn't they have this cool stuff when I was a kid?" Quote
Aanchir Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 If anyone's interested, the English edition of that catalog just went online. Elves starts on page 46. :) Quote
DraikNova Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 If the summer wave features that evil castle, I hope they make some cute-looking spiders for it. Spiders are probably the most underappreciated adorable animals in the world, and I think they'd work pretty good for Elves' style, bulbous, exaggerated style. Quote
OmShanti Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I was just looking at the catalog pages again and I noticed in the background near the sinister looking castle is a figure. Could it be one of the Elven Sisters holding the dragon captive? That would be an interesting twist. Quote

Spiders are probably the most underappreciated adorable animals in the world, and I think they'd work pretty good for Elves' style, bulbous, exaggerated style. Oh goodness, my wishlist for "spookier" Friends-style animals is so long. Bats! Ravens! Black Cats! Rats! I hadn't really considered spiders—mostly because even the standard Lego spider is already tremendously oversized, and Friends animals tend to be even larger. But I suppose it could work. On the other hand, I don't know how likely it is for us to see that many new animal molds other than dragons in this year's sets. I was just looking at the catalog pages again and I noticed in the background near the sinister looking castle is a figure. Could it be one of the Elven Sisters holding the dragon captive? That would be an interesting twist. I've definitely considered it—the unknown identity and status of the other Elven sisters has great potential for future stories, and the fact that Skyra appears to be estranged from all of them suggests that they all reacted to the first Emily's departure in their own (not necessarily healthy) ways. Which one do you think it would be, if that did turn out to be the case? I'm thinking the fire elf, based on the flame patterns on the castle in the distance. Quote

I was also thinking fire based on the patterns. It would be awesome no matter who it turns out to be, I'm sure. The Elves creators/designers are really owning this theme. It would be nice if they'd offer another longer episode like the first, for the new story arc. Quote

Ideally, I'd like a multiple episode story arc, if possible—cramming the entirety of the main 2015 story into a 30-minute TV special was part of what made this year's story feel so rushed. But that's getting more into media discussion. So back on the subject of sets, that dark castle looks really neat, but I can't help but think it's awfully small compared to this year's Sky Castle. I suppose that's to be expected (since I doubt it'll be any more expensive and probably includes the white dragon, who may be the largest dragon of the year), but it's still sort of a bummer. Quote
Soupperson1 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 The white dragons on the box art are the dragons of love, not wind! You can see the symbol on their heads! Quote
OmShanti Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Who said the white dragons were wind? I don't recall anyone saying that. The new sets for 2016 feature a purple wind dragon baby, so it's rather obvious the adult wind dragon would also be purple. Quote
Lyichir Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) The white dragons on the box art are the dragons of love, not wind! You can see the symbol on their heads! Good eye! I guess that means there'll probably be a larger wind dragon in one of the summer sets as well? Probably a small earth dragon too, come to think of it. I wonder how many summer sets there will be in total? Unlike several themes, Brickset doesn't even have numbers for summer Elves sets yet, so it's unclear whether there will just be another two-set wave or if there might potentially be more sets next year than there were this year. I agree it was rushed, but I just think it would be nice to offer a longer storyline than say a 4 minute webisode. If the webisodes were longer, that would be great. The castle probably would be smaller; to compensate for the dragon. No reason we can't build on it to make it bigger and more epic though. Good eye! There would have to be at least 3 sets in the summer wave to cover the missing dragons from the first wave. I wonder what they'll be. I hope there are more than this year, even though I'm running out of display space. Quote

But ideally I'd want something closer to an hour in length (~45 minutes plus commercials), whether that be in the form of a single webisode or a two- or four-part special. And it'd sure be nice to get some promotion for the debut next time, instead of just dropping it on Disney channel early in the morning with little to no advertising. There doesn't necessarily need to be three sets in the summer, since there's nothing stopping Lego from including the baby earth dragon in the same set as one of the other larger dragons. But three sets might be more likely. Edited December 19, 2015 by Lyichir Quote
OmShanti Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) I agree an hour length episode cut into parts would be ideal. That's sort of what I meant when I said longer episodes. It would be great if Elves develops a large enough following that they get their own show like Ninjago, Friends, Chima, etc. Some type of notice would be nice this time, I agree. Now that it's a more established theme, we might have that luxury. Edited December 20, 2015 by OmShanti Quote
Iria Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) It's great that Elves is turning towards a slightly darker theme. The need for the dragon and elves to work together to save Elvendale sounds promising, as does that suspected dark castle that we'll surely see in summer. We are getting glimpses of dark objects in the first 2016 wave; Fire Dragon's Lava Cave- That 'sinister well/cauldron' as Aanchir described it. Elvendale School of Dragons- On top of the tree there appears to be some kind of disc shooting device. Secret Market Place- At the blacksmith there are some tools that I find suspicious. Maybe part of a dark forge? Starlight Inn- Nothing stands out especially, except for perhaps that storm cellar which has black and lime green bricks, similar to the cauldron. It may be a smaller if they include the white dragon (to keep the cost of the castles comparable). Although I hope they don't, as I'd rather a larger castle. I suspect that, unlike Skyra's Castle, the new dark castle is taller instead of wider. In the catalog graphic it looks like the castle is three stories high. The white dragons on the box art are the dragons of love, not wind! You can see the symbol on their heads! Who said the white dragons were wind? I don't recall anyone saying that. The new sets for 2016 feature a purple wind dragon baby, so it's rather obvious the adult wind dragon would also be purple. I originally thought that the white dragon was a wind dragon, as it also has gold and purple highlights- similar to Skyra's outfit and the wind animals (the pegasi, owl and bird). Now that we see the baby and parent dragons, I can see how closely they match, so that broke my theory. Great catch regarding the Love symbol on the dragon's forehead Soupperson! I'm still not super keen about the adult dragons, but I suspect they'll grow on me. There's definitely some great new pieces and builds in this wave. Those faceted translucent dragon eggs are much better than I was expecting. Edited December 20, 2015 by Iria Quote
Soupperson1 Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I suspect there will be four sets in the summer wave one for each dragon. I say the set line up will be something like: Some small set with the earth baby dragon and an elf. A medium size set with the wind dragon and an elf. A building or possibly even a vehicle with the love baby dragon with an elf and a new secondary female elf. The evil castle with the wizard (I'm sure he's a wizard he has a beard), Emily and the remaining elf. A baby dragon(s) from one of the other sets could also be included, like the keys in Skyra's castle. It's worth mentioning the fire dragon is bigger than the others so it can have two seats. One seat is for Emily as her dragon is captured. I hope like in the summer wave we get a surprise new mythical animal(s), a unicorn would be fantastic! Quote
telaruhn Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Disappointed to see the new teapot and hourglass molds in pink, but it makes me hopeful to see other color variations. I know Ninjago was using a genie lamp as a teapot, maybe we'll get this new teapot in the next waves of those sets... We'll definitely see that new hourglass somewhere else. Despite the new parts, there's a lot here that I love, especially the school, the inn and the marketplace. Can't wait to buy them, go at 'em with my de-pinking shears and eventually combine elements from each into one larger set. Though it may wait considering I still have older Elves sets to pick up... The Fire Dragon set has some great colors, and if the sinister cauldron-thing in the background is a taste of what's to come - I'm pretty stoked for the summer wave! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 There is light blue teapot in cup cake shop in friends :) I love the way marketplace is done. It's really refreshing! Quote
Sandy Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Oh, wow! I'm really loving all these buildings. When thrown together the Elvendale Village is starting to shape up quite nicely! The green-roofed Inn looks especially nice! The brick-built dragons don't do much for me, though, and it looks like I can skip the Fire Dragon set altogether since it doesn't feature any other new elements besides the dragon. The evil castle with the wizard (I'm sure he's a wizard he has a beard), Emily and the remaining elf. I don't know how you see a bearded wizard in the castle, because I'm seeing a long-haired sorceress in a black dress holding some sort of spellbook or something... There is light blue teapot in cup cake shop in friends :) All I see in the catalogue is a magenta teapot... Quote

I see a few new elements even in the cave itself... the most obvious being 93604 in Flame Yellowish Orange, for the lava pool. Quote

Either way, I'm sure it will be great. Quote
OmShanti Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 So I'm curious if anyone knows when Elves is to be released for 2016. Do we get a January release or are we waiting until March again? Quote
