That doesn't surprise me. Redemption, forgiveness, and seeing the good in others are popular themes in girls' media, and good for them. Boys' media often has a "villain must die" resolution, because they're obviously unsalvageable.

I would like to see Regana in minidoll form. I don't generally like the minidolls, but she could be a nice figure.

Someone over at the Ladies' Lounge rightfully called this phenomenon creepy...

I hope Regana's not one of the five sisters. We already had this conflict with Skyra. It would be interesting if Regana brought in a new element of darkness or hatred, and was a straight up villain (since, as mentioned by others, it doesn't happen much in girl-themed media).

It wouldn't be the same conflict, necessarily. Skyra was a recluse—she only took an antagonistic role because it was actually her job to protect the portal from evildoers, and in her grief she interpreted that in the strictest way possible by keeping anyone and everyone away from her castle. Regana seems to be a much more twisted character, who seems to be actively putting all of Elvendale in danger by imprisoning the Dragon Queen and creating a rift between the dragons and elves. Even if she is redeemed at the end of the year, it'll probably be a much greater challenge than it was for Skyra, for whom Emily really just needed to prove her worth.

How about Nexo Knights coming down in their spaceships, destroying the Elves land for their resources and killing their queen, just kidding  these sets look great though.

Which part? "Redemption, forgiveness, and seeing the good in others" as being popular in girls media? Or the "villain must die resolution" in boys media?

Or is it that girls and boys are each tied to their respective story types? I find that to be creepy. Why can't boys have redeemed characters once in a while? Why can't girls have villains who must die?

Mix it up.

Basically this. If the message in boys media is "be a hero and destroy the enemy" and in girls' media it's "can't we all just get along and be friends?" the kids are taught different and incompatible models of problem solving, purely on the basis of their gender. And that results in a society that isn't very effective at solving its problems.

Trust Fortnerd with dragging politics into a Lego Elves thread :wall:

To be fair, Lego has been at least somewhat good about this--Ninjago and the Lego Movie (off the top of my head) have had villains who have been redeemed/reconciled. It's going to be interesting to see if Elves is as varied.

Mostly, I'd just like a villain who isn't just plain converted to the heroes' side or killed off, but who actually has a good reason for being a villain and who the heroes actually concede has a point.

Sort of like an anti-hero? Could be interesting, though I'm not sure whether Lego wants to venture into morally-ambiguous territory (even though it's fairly popular in other media/movies at the moment). Adults like to present the world as black and white to kids, with maybe the bad guys as merely misguided with potential for redemption. In the context of Elves, I don't know how it could turn out how an evil queen/witch had good reasons to chain up the Love Dragon.

Well, Lego did go into morally ambiguous territory with Nadakhan from Ninjago, who has a vendetta against the ninja and seeks to destroy their home realm because the ninja inadvertently destroyed his home, wiped out his species, and killed his father. Not sure if they'll do anything that complex for Elves, though. It would be pretty nice, but I doubt it.

FOUR summer sets? Be still, my heart!

It is curious that the queen dragon is in a separate set from the Shadow Castle, though... I had expected them to be part of the same set, to help explain the castle seeming smaller than the Sky Castle from the vague pictures we've had. Either the castle is bigger than I suspected or it includes some sort of other content...

Four new Elves sets this summer! Awesome! I can't wait to see them. I've been told it's abnormal to be this excited about something.

Perhaps the castle is more substantial than we originally thought. I thought the Dragon Queen would be in that set, but seeing as how she has her own set; there must be more to the castle. Either way I'm sure it will be quite magical. I'm just thrilled to be getting a bigger summer wave than last year.

Thank you for the list.

Thanks for the list! Looks like a great summer lineup. It makes sense that the Castle and Rescue are separate, otherwise it would be fairly expensive and/or a fairly small castle. Separate sets allows for more detailed builds, which they deserve. I'm betting the Regana's Castle will be a similar size to that of Skyra's. Maybe slightly taller and narrower.

41179 Queen Dragon’s Rescue

41180 Ragana’s Magic Shadow Castle

These two below really have my attention, since they are unexpected. I'm sure the Mine will be lovely with a bunch of translucent bricks. I wonder what the Dragon Sanctuary will look like. What kind of environment do the dragons live in? They can fly, so will it be sky or mountain based? I hope there are lots of natural/foliage elements. So far early 2016 has had more emphasis on buildings, which is good, but I love the nature-focused sets.

41177 Precious Crystal Mine

41178 Dragon Sanctuary

A crystal mine?! D: Won't someone please think of my poor wallet? Dx

Edit: I bet Dragon Sanctuary is the one that includes the wind dragon...

I know! I need to start saving more somehow. Hopefully Crystal Mine has no adult dragons. I want as much Mine and crystals as possible. I hope there is a rail track and cart, and pickaxes, or something to differentiate it from an ordinary cave.

Definitely! (I bet). That would make an equal ratio of sets with and without adult dragons, identical to what we get in march. One adult dragon of each element is enough. I hope there is no doubling.

Holy crap! I hope the sets are as amazing as they sound!

Indeed, that would be so cool! On second thought, do Elves and mines add up to... Dwarf Elves???

Nope, it adds up to lots of pretty crystals and probably the earth dragon baby <3

Dwarves would be wonderful to see, but I cannot imagine them in minidoll form. The slenderness works well for elves, but I doubt it would for dwarves. So a new mold would probably need to be made, which I doubt would happen, because of cost, and lack of potential usage in minidoll sets. I'm still hoping for mermaids in future waves (Mermaids were mentioned in one of the webisodes or minimovie).

I dunno... a mini-doll with "child" proportions could conceivably work for both dwarves or for regular children in the Lego Friends theme. But I don't personally expect anything of the sort from these upcoming sets...

It'd be pretty easy to make dwarves. All they need is a new shorter leg mold. That being said, I can't imagine them making dwarves.

Unrelated, but my mind instantly goes to this when I hear "Dwarf elves".

Shorter legs work perfectly for minifigs because of their proportions. Dwarves have gruff, burly appearances, not skinny torsos (at least not in modern Tolkien fantasy). But yes, doubtful they would make an appearance regardless.
