I just spotted the whole wave here in the netherlands, loose cars are 20 euros, the porsche set 90, ridiculous :(

Ill be buying these only if i can find a good discount, another big price hike like this is very disappointing

At this rate i might as wel give up lego for proper cars

I found the whole wave at TRU last night, bought the Vette and came home to my Mustang and Camaros on the front porch. I stayed up way too late last night building the Mustang and Vette and then modding them to be 8 studs wide. I'm really happy with the results. I think they look ridiculous at 6 studs wide. So goofy/skinny.

Stay tuned for a thread on the new mods. I have to take some decent pics.

not exactly a surprise, both cars are sticker heavy, and the garage space isn't lacking for stickers either. Personally I have little intention of using them (ok maybe the 917 will get stickered up) so it makes little difference to me at this point. still can't wait to buy the set (I found patience and am waiting to order direct from Lego (I want my points so I can shop on may the 4th too )

Apparently 75876 has nearly 80 stickers. *huh*

Reiterating that "scan the stickers, recolor in Photoshop, print as many as you can" phrase here. Edited by Rick

Am I the only one who loves the giant tires from the classic Camaro? I think it is good to do something that is stupid as f*** for a drag race.

You aren't. I really like them too and it'd probably be a bit of a bother for Lego to create a tyre that was a size in between the two sizes fitted to that Camaro. I wonder what it'd look like if someone modified the drag Camaro back to it's street car form.... I might try that.

Mod the rear tires to use what is on the fronts, and then mod the front with the slightly smaller city style (using the tire trick from a few pages back) and boom, still larger rears without being huge like they are now. it may need all around redesign to look right but that's what I would do to it, or will once I get them.

I like where you're going there. Putting the skinny tires on the front. I may have to try that tonight.

Speaking of stickers, and I know this is probably the wrong place to ask (but I've got to start somewhere), does anyone know anywhere I can get a version of the Mustang's sticker sheet with all the blue changed to transparent? My dad's a huge Mustang collector (AFoM?), but all his cars are white (or rarely white with dark blue stripes). I got him the Speed Champions set, but he seemed a bit disappointed it didn't match his real car. These sets are so sticker-intensive that I haven't even thought about MOC/MOD possibilities yet, figuring a customized DSS might be the best way to go for now.

How about you hustle a friend with Photoshop skills and get a scanner?

Any word on whether this theme will make it to Australia this year? The 2016 catalogue is suspiciously bare of SC. my sister is visiting from the US in April so if they aren't coming I may need to get them to bring me some. Best options for mail order in the US?

I have the sticker sheet scanned, and if I get to it, will probably redraw the elements in Illustrator. I really don't know when I'll get to it, but I'll happily share in this thread if/when I do.

Got the Photoshop SKillz, can't scan the sheet because we already built it.

That'd be awesome. I don't have Illustrator (or anything like it) anymore, so I can't do vector stuff well.

I talked to the manager at my local TRU a couple of weeks ago. He said to expect the new stuff any day and that last year's sets would go on sale once they arrived. Went in yesterday, all of the new stuff is there, but so is a shelf full of a ton of last year's McLaren's and LaFerrari's fresh out of the case. Ready for the weird part? The year-old $15 sets were priced at $18. :look:

I talked to an assistant manager about it, but she basically just gave me a shrug and said I dunno.

Too bad too, because I could use that LaFerrari's red wheel arches and some other parts for a custom Speed Champions build I'm working on. (stay tuned for that one)

maybe price growth can be explained those are mclaren's and ferraris - so with a time they have all chances to become rare exclusives (even in a year term, when sold out from retailors' nets). So a bit justified growth. Then again, this year's SC sets are of what i can see - better ones. Same designer that worked for TLG designing SC pioneer sets prev year now fixed his lil mistakes, like on mclaren oil-pump like we can see in new Le-mans set for instance. Sry for my english, not a native speaker.

growth in price could be justified if not for the fact Lego still lists last years cars on their site as well. the real answer is that the Toys-R-US "tax" is still there and they haven't started clearance them. I'm sure those familiar with TRU know that sets start at RRP and then go up some time later (2-3 months is usually when I notice the climb)

anyway there's no way to influence that anyway. An alternative - look for other place to buy yer sets

The 2015 sets were regular price ($15) only a couple of weeks ago. I figured it was a local store mistake that they were marked up until I went to another location yesterday and found the same thing. I swear, TRU is the worst.
