Series have a scheduled runtime, after which they stop being produced. So while they definitely tend to linger, there's a time when the new series comes out and the past one is officially "over".

I called Lego and asked what they had scheduled as the release date for Series 15 in the US and they said February 15th! That is ridiculous! Anyone over in Europe wanna hook me up?

I'll raise you countless Brickmaster sets, Target minifig cubes and the entire run of Master Builder Academy that were available in USA / North America but not elsewhere. Of course, we had Batman, LOTR, SW games too (in Europe). It pays to have friends on the other side of the Atlantic. Edited by MAB

I can't say I'm surprised about the delay in America. Many stores in my area still have entire boxes of the Halloween series sitting on the shelves. They just can't seem to get rid of them.

I don't know if it's about this because from here too, there's still lot of packs and boxes of the series 14, not just in LEGO Store, even in other shops. In the LEGO Store now, this is the first time I see that the place attributed to the new series is egual with the previous one. Since 3 years I know this LEGO Store, when a new series comes, there's just a few prev series quantity left, every times but with these S14 leftovers, I wonder if LEGO has overestimated the Series 14 themed. For me, I really liked it, it's was a really good opportunity (september 2015 : sets Scooby Doo + Series 14 + 40122 Trick or Treat Halloween Set = Super Mega Great Halloween LEGO ) and I'm okay with that :pir-sweet: but maybe LEGO has produced too many Series 14 boxes ?

My targets still have plenty of S14 too. I think you're right and LEGO produced too many of S14 because they probably thought it would see like crazy for Halloween. I was actually expecting target to have them on sale after Halloween but nothing.

Our local stores had trouble keeping them (S14) in stock before Halloween. I asked the WHSmiths manager about them (I wanted to use a £5 off £20 and had a gift card from there) and he reckoned they were late getting their full allocation. They got odd boxes prior to Halloween which sold quickly, then got loads at the start of November which didn't sell too well.

Local Target stores here have a lot of them, but they also haven't had them on their shelves for the past 2 months. They held them in the back room from Halloween until after Christmas, for some reason.

My local Target was late getting the series out on shelves - it was a good three to four weeks later than everywhere else. So by the time my Target had them, I had already picked up my full set from my Lego store and other locales. And if you want to talk about "the ghost of minifigs past" still lurking around, some of my local Wal-marts still have Simpsons Series 2 lying around!

It's weird, I was the one who had them bring out the first box of S14 in September, then those were gone within a week. No sign of them until after christmas, when at least 2 1/2 boxes are put out in display boxes!

Same. I'm still finding Series 13 in places, too, so maybe this delay is a good thing so they can finally sell some of their overstock of past series.

I think that LEGO should have anticipated the Monsters minifigures would be more popular around Halloween and had them distributed until November at the latest, since any later than that would make them seem out of season. But like others have said, maybe they anticipated that the Monsters would be popular and made too many... I dunno. There's likely a number of factors that play into it.

I think they made too many. But like you said there are a number of factors that play into it. I think they hype for monsters figures only lasted until the end of november.

I think only 1 Toyworld has them at the moment, I had to search some of the individual store's Facebook pages to see the post mentioned above. I will wait until someone has them for 20% off as I want a full set and a few extras for the kids.
