8BrickMario Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Those hypothetical goat legs look fantastic. I know it's super unlikely, but sometgibg like those would be great! Quote
x105Black Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 That design is fantastic, and I would absolutely buy several of them. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Hopefully we get a list and some leaked pix soon. I was reading about Satyrs online and they're described in Greek mythology as half human half horse. Then I read that fauns come from Roman mythology and are half human half goat. So since the gargoyle has ear and horns then wouldn't the minifigure for series 15 be indeed a faun and not a satyr? Any thoughts? Quote

Dannylonglegs Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 This is how the Satyr looks in the Alexandre Boudon designs... so we could get something like this This is exactly what I want. pan piece! Goat/horse legs! Yes yes yes! The hair doesn't look like the gargoyle piece though, so I'd be interested to see how they go about that. This hair piece actually looks a lot like Farran's from "Elves"... if only that gorgeous hairpiece appeared in yellow. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Centaurs are the ones with the lower body of a horse. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) These designs were made around 2010. That explains it all about the Gargoyle headpiece True, I was just sort of thinking "out loud" as to whether that design's hair might feature later as maybe another satyr if this one turns out to be a faun. I would love to see that leg piece get multiple uses. Ooh! Maybe we'll see an evil faun with black fur legs and a wicked face with hair like seen above! And then we could get a (totally not-true-to-mythology) female faun! I really like those legs. Note: I'm using "faun" and "satyr" as if they were different things for the purposes of reselling the piece and concept in multiple minifigures. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited September 25, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote

Hmm, well I kept reading from various sources and they all describe Greek Satyrs in mythology as half horse half human, it was later on that the image of half horse half goat came along from what I understood. Pluse, ancient images show satyr as half human half horse, they had no horns.... ˄ Itaria No Shintaku could help us with this He knows a lot about fantasy/mythological stuff Itaria... I summon you! 8BrickMario Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Huh. I learn something new every day. Greek Satyrs had horse ears and legs, but not bodies, but the Roman fauns changed it to goat legs and horns. The Roman version stuck, and the image became retroactively associated with the Satyr. So by today's standards, it's definitely a satyr even if it's a goat person. Quote

Yeah, I'm not a huge mythology buff, but I thought there might have been a distinction therenot but I really didn't know for sure either. Thanks for the info! In modern usage though there really is no difference. Maybe Lego will make both! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited September 25, 2015 by Dannylonglegs Quote
BrickFit26 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Yes, it was interesting to learn about ancient depictions of Greek Satyrs while i was reading about them. I would post a pic of them here but they way Satyrs were depicted in ancient greek mythology is rather sexual. I'm also guessing that either term Satyr or Faun is acceptable to use. I wonder what LEGO will use. Quote
Robert8 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) Regarding the Alexandre Boudon designs, let's check them again (as usual while we're waiting for the series list) Could be one of these in S15? Edited September 25, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
gedren_y Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I always thought that a faun was a deer version of a centaur with antelope-like horns, but I think that may have been because of how they were depicted in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Satyrs are always male, and are very much about the male sexual drive, which in the Ancient Greek and Roman societies was not taboo. I believe the goat species they are most commonly associated with is the Spanish ibex, though the satyr tails in the classical depictions are horse tails. Alexandre Boudon's drawings come quite close to a number of figs we actually got, though a few of them were not in the CMFs. If you are willing to be non-purist, Brickforge makes a great centaur body, and they have a few different prints. Quote
Robert8 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) So to those who have seen the catalog, were there any pictures of this minifigure series in there you could tell us about? Anything you haven't already hinted at, anyways? The catalog has only this pic but with an orange color scheme (and the 15 instead of the 12, of course) It's the only January theme which pics are not included So, nothing to see there Edited September 25, 2015 by Robert8 Quote
Phyre Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Regarding the Alexandre Boudon designs, let's check them again (as usual while we're waiting for the series list) Could be one of these in S15? I always love looking over those designs. My favorites are always the undead knight and the short goblin with the cleaver (would love to see that pointy hood piece), so hopefully one of those turns up in this series. Undead knight is probably more likely since we just had a goblin fig. Quote
BrickOn Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Cool designs, I would love to see the masquerade ball figure, the guy with the golden chicken staff and the evil genie :-) well any of those we haven't already had! Quote

Oh darn, I'd love to have any of those western minifigures! And what do I see there - are those... figures based on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?! Count me in for those, hope to see at least one of them pop up some time soon! (And in flesh as depicted on the drawings, please, not yellow..) Edited September 25, 2015 by General Magma Quote

8BrickMario Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 That cartoon devil would be a perfect way to reuse the Gargoyle wings, but LEGO wouldn't dare make it. Evil Genie/Djinn using the S13 turban would be amazing. Did you mean "new" hourglass piece? "Nee" in a woman's name refers to their maiden name, so I'm sure it was a typo. If so, then it's possible that we'd get some representation of Death. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Wow, those Alexandre Boudon Designs are just so amazing. I'd kill for that Journeyman Shepard figure. I absolutely love seeing Lego design sketches, because they really show "what if" designs; some being way out there and others shockingly close to the finalized product. Evil Genie/Djinn using the S13 turban would be amazing. I'd really like both, and again, I would definitely buy several of each. That would be a great use for the wings. I'm hoping to eventually see them in Black, myself, but if they did that Devil in Dark Red it would be amazing. The Evil Genie would be wonderful, and might inspire me to buy the older Genie minifigure. The designs are all fantastic. I really hope they keep using them. These are definitely my favorites: If they ever did a Centaur, I would hope that they would use the new Horse techniques where they can stand on their back legs, and even bend at the neck / torso joint. And it would be nice to see them in use in Castle, where we could have a variety of simple prints instead of a whole bunch of spiral tattoos. Edited September 25, 2015 by x105Black Quote
8BrickMario Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) I feel like the centaur is definitely more likely in a set than as a CMF. Come on, LEGO! Make it official! The only thing keeping me from buying the unofficial centaur bodies was because they were unofficial. That wizard gnome would be really interesting, if we did get a proper staff. The Djinn/Evil Genie would be an instant must-have for me. I love evil characters. I think an Einstein-style figure might be possible with Doc Brown's new hair mold...
